It's his toddler's monomaniacal view of the world that offends people. "Cars are boring" despite the massive enthusiast following that supports multiple car magazines and TV shows in many countries. "Am I the only person who has never driven a car off a road" Certainly not. Many people don't, but quite a few do. Those who do will purchase a vehicle that specializes in that aspect of mobility. There are whole National Recreation Areas set aside for the purpose of providing responsible, safe areas for people to drive off the main highways. "It doesn't have anything to do with my experience of driving". Yeah, so what... Cupholders: "If it's on the right, it's a good design. If it's on the left, bad design, because I'm right-handed." Ironically. it's the same sort of amusement at watching a grown man spout off opinions on subjects he knows nothing about that gives Jeremy Clarkson a lot of his popularity on the right.

Clearly you don't watch much comedy, which just suggests you're completely humourless. Anyway it's ok to shit on someone but you're literally making the wrong assumptions about him - he's very far from being one of the fame-crazy attention whores, that suggestion is just silly.

you want to know why? Well, the received pronunciation of Lee Mack is a hint as to why he "hates" Top Gear. Top Gear is a show for people who enjoy the aesthetics of things, from the lines on a cars design to how it handles. This is generally going to be something more for the working class to enjoy than the upper crust of society. He doesn't hate Top Gear, he's just had a plum in his gob long enough to think that "he's above that sort of rubbish, the driving isn't even fun" If you've ever had a stretch of motorway in front of you and just gone "fuck it!" and floored it at a hundred or so, you know why people like Top Gear

The fact that Top Gear is scripted isn't a problem. It's the fact that they pretend like it's not. They can't act and it shows. The worst offender for me was when they bought James May this shitty little car that he really liked and then a huge lorry reversed into it and it was all played as though it wasn't scripted or planned. Their reactions are fake. The whole thing was fake. Another one is when Hammond "forgot" to put the handbrake on when his 4x4 rolled down that sand dune or whatever it was after they'd taking the 4x4's through the jungle. Again I forget the specifics but it was played for real when it was clearly all faked.

That part of it is fun and relatable. It's the way that they review insanely expensive, unobtainable cars that is out of touch and on that front I'm mostly on board with Lee here. I don't know that there's a lot about the way they talk about various Porsches and MacLarens and Bugatti Veyrons that translates very well to my ownership of a VW Jetta. Granted, those cars are still VERY cool and impressive, but it does make the show feel a little targeted for a wealthy upper class.

Some top gear numbers/facts can be useful in real life. Torque can be handy when you're on a motorway for example.
@asrieldreemur17645 жыл бұрын
_And what purpose does torque have on a motorway? Nothing. You're cruising at a constant speed half of the time, so what's the point of knowing about torque?_

I recently returned to driving after 5 years. Traffic jams, red lights, tailgaters, bikers who come from nowhere, overtaking then slowing on motorways. I sold the car, and have gone back to public transport and taxis.

He says he has no interest in cars but as soon as he got some money to spend he went and bought a classic car because he found it beautiful, well that's the whole point isn't it? We love cars for their beauty, or technical prowess, or for their performance or simply because of how they make us feel when we drive them, that's why you see some dude with a big smile behind the wheel of a 2000s hatback with a dent in it, if that's what he makes him happy versus a million dollar supercar what's the problem? Yes car design has changed but if you say all modern cars look the same you clearly haven't seen enough cars, with different shapes, different engine placements, different interiors. I find cars fascinating but I can't afford an expensive one and the trio has made Top Gear into what it is now, as soon as they left some people have stopped watching the new generation of TopGear, I gave it a shot, it's a good show, but it's different from when the urangutan, the hamster and the spaniel were there. They spoke to car enthusiasts, not just technical specs of the cars, they did the challenges where the script was written in a such a way that is made 3 middle aged men in 3 old scrappers enjoyable to watch. So you grew attached to the jokes and the emotion of driving, instead of learning about a new front differential and gas mileage.

I went in expecting to be upset, but I agree. Cars are really boring. A few stand out, like the Toyota Hillux that couldn't be destroyed, or the Spyker C8 that I adore the aesthetic of, but when they sit down and talk about a new sportscar or whatever I switch off a bit (not all the way, cos I know the three will give us some good material from it). I love the challenges, the humour, the Stig, the three guys' dynamic, and even a few of the cars they've shown, but I don't care for cars as a subject.

I personally love cars and loved top gear when it was these 3, hence I don’t love top gear anymore but I love the grand tour I think Lee has missed the point, I don’t have anything against him but saying you hate a show because it’s about something that doesn’t interest you is unfair, I don’t care about the kardashians, so I don’t watch keeping up with the kardashians, he doesn’t like cars clearly, so why would he 1) bother watching it, and 2) go on a show to speak about his disliking of the show, I agree with the host, even if you don’t like cars, it’s entertainment, because I agree, you can’t watch it to objectively gain a better understanding of cars, it’s Jeremy shouting about speed and power and sliding around the track in a cloud of smoke, as someone that has been into cars since I was 5 years old, top gear was actually one of the primary influences, but I would buy the top gear magazines as they had a section at the back where you could check out more of the statistics of the cars, like insurance groups and tax etc, I know that sounds boring but that’s how in depth I was, I could go out somewhere with my dad, he could point at a car and I could list different things about it

I love Top Gear. I have to say, I was not interested in cars before I saw it, but now I sort of am. Not mechanics, but cars in general. That's how good I think it is. It's just about fun, much more than cars, I think. I mean, they don't talk about cars that much anymore, all that stuff Lee said about torque and suspension stuff, they don't insist on that, do they? They're not those bores you overhear in pubs going on and on about how many MPGs their fucking Jag can do, and how much torque it develops... They are really fun and funny blokes, as it happens the cars in Top Gear are accessories to the fun, that's pretty much it.

Personally I love classic cars and bikes and aircraft. I have absolutely no interest in the wall to wall cooking programs that are always on TV . Can there be anything more boring than watching someone make a cake , nice to eat though 😁 The original Top gear with Clarkson May and Hammond has more entertainment in one episode than the whole combined series of master chef or cake making with Mary berry etc , it’s all down to what interests you have . Each to their own .

I wish more people would understand the divide between what you want in real life and dealing with what is real life. You are never going to fall on one side or the other. Balance is a good thing and there is no point, nor does it make any sense for life to be simple, certain and straight-forward. If anything, it’s a mess, but that doesn’t have to be a nightmare. I can’t see people returning back to peace and quiet, but both ways of living can co-exist.
