“Leeds Councillor Shouts 'Allahu Akhbar This Is For Gaza' In Local Election Victory”

22 күн бұрынA Green Party candidate celebrated his election to Leeds city council by shouting "Allahu Akbar!" while his supporters displayed a Palestinian flag.
Mothin Ali, who won the Gipton and Harehills seat with 3,070 votes, declared his victory as a triumph for the people of Gaza. In his speech, he called out the Labour council for consistently letting down the people, and vowed to continue advocating for Gaza and Palestine.
Ali was among several candidates nationwide who ran on a platform supporting Gaza and Palestine and defeated their Labour opponents.
In Walsall, Naheed Zohra Gultasib retained her seat in the Pleck ward. She was one of six Labour councillors who left the party in November due to Sir Keir Starmer's stance on Gaza.
A pro-Palestinian independent candidate, Akhmed Yakoob, garnered nearly 20% of the vote in Birmingham, one of the seven areas comprising the West Midlands combined authority.
Labour witnessed a significant decline in support in areas with a sizable Muslim population across the country.

I’m from Leeds, and lived down harehills years ago. Now a immi dumping ground and has always been labour. This rat face got elected due to the area being flooded with eazlams over the years and that this clown went against labour as they don’t support Palestine enough, so he run against them for the greens, and the greens being so pathetic they let him so they can get a councillor. We are a multi faith country - christian (all denominations), Jewish, Hindu, Seikh, Muslim…..with a secular constitution (separation of church and state). The only exception being that the monarch (who is our head of state) is “defender of the faith” and head of the CofE but this is really a ceremonial role only. Our history has been mainly Christian since the conversion of the Saxon kings but it’s ludicrous to claim we are now “a christian country”.

You have to ask why is there such thing as the Muslim vote? There isn't a Hindu vote. A sikh vote. A Jewish vote. A Christian vote. 2 things that should set alarm bells ringing. An homogeneous group that has no intention of assimilation with any other community that will only promote their own agenda, and a local politician ( one of 40 in the country now ) who has no policy on local issues for all of the electorate. Read the demands they are making of the Labour party. They include boycotting any business that deals with Israel, and government funding for Madrasas and the authority for all Muslims to pray during work and school.

Rigged voting and abuse of the Postal Vote system is part of the problem, I would suspect. Every vote needs to carefully checked to ensure there was no wrong doing, I won't hold my breath though. This was supposed to be a local councillor election for the benefit of the borough being represented, NOTHING to do with overseas issues, Galloway started this crap in Rochdale. This is a strange conundrum indeed. This individual, dressed in traditional Pakistani heritage clothing, shouting out religious sayings of Islam, has a Leeds accent. One might assume therefore that he was probably born in Leeds If so, judging by his appearance and utterances one might draw the conclusion that he isn't quite integrated into the British way of life. Does he accept British values ? Will he be tolerant of behaviours that are opposed by his religion? When he states his electoral success is for "Gaza" what is he actually saying? It's unlikely that Leeds City Council, for whom he has been elected to serve, will be able to influence events in Israel and Gaza. I see that he is representing the Green Party, has he said anything about green issues in his run up to this election?

It’s not the students here , harehills and gipton have a very high Muslim population, the votes came from the Muslim population who went and voted. Three thousand votes won this man a seat as a councillor, that is a very low turnout. So people need to get their bums of their sofas and go and vote . Very few students in Harehills these days. There is a rather large Mosque in Harehills and a high Muslim local population. There was indeed a low turnout and had everyone eligible to vote voted, the result could have been different.

They are the only ones who can get accommodation. Every new build block of flats is assigned to these part time citizens; ordinary locals in need of housing don't get a look in. FYI Harehills is now a no go ghetto, with six fried chicken shops next to each other and a security guard in the library, on it's biggest road last time I looked. But that was ten years ago so much worse now.

If hearing this doesn't concern the individual no matter their race, religion then we are in trouble. If this is the public face of political islam what is being thought and discussed behind closed doors is what really matters. Dragging us back to the Dark Middle Ages. A religious class that wants the right it believes it has to change non muslim societies.

Domestic politics for the masses, religion for the one, it's a personal belief, that clearly shouldn't be implemented into British Politics. Fed up of hearing about Gaza in this country. If folks feel so strongly about it, then they should be campaigning for Palestinians to be relocated to Qatar, where most of their leaders are living in luxury villas, have lots of money and nice food.

It's all very well to ask that we disentangle religion and politics. But political Islam literally puts Islam right at the centre of all of it's politics. And, saying "Allah Akhbar" is nothing like saying "hallelujah", because it is saying "OUR god is great" in a country that does not follow Allah!

It literally means "God is Great". Allah is the arabic word for God. The Christians in the middle east use Allah as the word for God. Just remember, Christianity originated in Palestine.

You're forensically looking to find faults because simply put you don't like that British Muslims are getting politically organised. Of course every councilor, MP or mayor's first order of priority is their constituency and constituents. Gaza is simply a big issue at the moment because the establishment is arming and funding another foreign entity committing a genocide. Of course those of us against the genocide will continue to voice that opinion as thousands of children continue to get blown up and starved to death, paid for and armed in part by our taxes!

He should be dismissed immediately. As a local councillor his duty is to focus on his area and sort issues out in his area. Not proclaim his win is a victory for Gaza because it isn't. I am neither Jewish nor Palestinian. And maybe a clueless Brit. But frankly I am tired of Jews and Palestinians (in Britain and outside) involving us in their endless conflict. We in Britain have considerably more pressing priorities that impact our daily lives. For example, the sate of our roads, schools, healthcare, cost of lining crisis - the list is endless. Events in the Middle East should not have any impact upon our elections. That said as an objective impartial observer, Zionism is purely about believing in a homeland for the Jewish Diaspora. That is no less noble than believing in a viable independent state for the Palestinian people. If both Jewish and and Palestinian people can regard and respect these as mutually common interests then the next step is how do you share the territory in a peaceful and equitable way. Peace!
