Im not a Leeds United fan (rather the other United who play in red) but I find this series excellent nonetheless. 70s English football has a flair that no other decade has had. The Admiral shirts, big collars and sock tags just exemplify what I love about watching this period of football.

These old Leeds films took me right back to my young days following Leeds home and away . I went to The Chelsea away game The game was billed as the "Wilkins v Currie ".match . Only one winner 2.1 to Leeds .a guy who used to take us to games took us to Chelsea .On the way down we stopped at Leicester forest and it was full of Sheffield Wednesday fans . and they sussed we were Leeds . There was George who would have been about 50 years old .and 3 kids who had just left school so we were 16 . We went to the toilet and went back to the car .As we approached the car a load of Wendies ran at us .We thought they were going to smash the car up but they just shouted " You gonna bride Chelsea today " Then ran back inside the service station . I got in volved in the punk movement in April 1977 and I was looking forward to go down the Kings Road . There were about 20 punks where I lived so to see so many punks on the Kings Rd was fantastic .We went in Malcolm McLarens shop seditionaries' and walked past all the other punk places BOY ,Baufort market ,The Robuck . George never took us in the Leeds end so we went in the stand down the side .As we were stood outside the shed waiting for the stand to open there was a lad who looked like he had loads of scarves tucked up his jumper . I asked him if he was Leeds and he ran off. which kind of shocked me as he must have realised my Yorkshire accent. When we got in the stand we went up the far end near the Leeds fans . I was sat in front of the others .After a while this Chelsea fan about the same age as us came and sat next to me .He asked is I was Leeds I said Yes ! He said look over there and he was pointing out all the Chelsea fans who had infiltrated the Leeds end .Then he says " See that guy there with the donkey jacket .That's the " Kung Fu Kicker " In reference to the Crystal Palace V Chelsea pitch invasion recently . .At half time I went to the bar and there was a Leeds fan with his scarf on who bought a drink then was kicked down the stairs by a few Chelsea fans . I went back to my seat . and me and this Chelsea fan chatted away all through the game . at the end we shook hands . The Liverpool game I was in the Lowfield Road end with all the Leeds crew .This is before the service crew who didn't exist at that point . I was dressed in a black bin liner ,safety pins and dyed white hair .I was going to see the Stranglers at The Queens Hall after the gig along with the Drones and The Saints . We were right next to the pen with the Liverpool fans in halfway down Lowfield Road . We always paid into the boys pen next to the Geldard End then jumped over the wall. When Liverpool scored this copper decided to try arrest me so he tried pulling me over the barrier onto the pitch .My mates saw this and tried to pull me back .so there I was getting pulled from either side in the end I caught my testies on the barrier and I was in agony so I shouted let go .So my mates let go and the copper dragged me onto the pitch. and I was escorted by the Gelderd End .and to a man they all started shouting " Silly silly cunt " to me in my punk gear . I was nicked and let out and went to see the Stranglers .who were shite.loved The Drones and The Saints though proper punk bands .There was quite a bit of trouble outside the gig and round the station as some of the Leeds lot Steve Marshall etc. I never got any trouble of the Leeds lot . There was only one punk at Leeds though . There was a guy from Barnsley who disappeared after a while . I asked his if he hated punks . He said " No " I'm just looking for a fight with anyone but seeing as there's lots of punks about they will do. The Gig looked empty when I got in but I asked the promoter and he said there were over a 1000 people in there .Manchester City away was probably the scariest day at Football I was hit with a hammer my mate got slashed across his face and got 30 stitches . 9 people missing off our coach , The coach behind there was just the driver left . about 200 Leeds fans in hospital that day One guy was found in a garden the Monday after the game .. We were in the Kippax because the rest of the ground was shut . All these city fans were asking us if we were at Forest and if we were going next away game . When Leeds took a 3'1 Lead we decided to try get back to our coach As we walked round the back of the Kippax to the forecourt at the other end of ground Got pulled by some city fans but blagged it as we made our way back to the coach my mate was slashed across the face .I was hit with a hammer . a copper walked past and took me to the coach park . when we realised how many Leeds fans were hurt we got a little mob together and went looking for city fans .we found a group hanging round a bus stop near the pub on the edge of the footie pitches we were parked on and they were thrown through the bus shelter window. I went to Man City lots of times after that and it never happened again . This game resulted in all the trouble at Elland Road in The cup in January 78 .When Corrigan was attacked by a Leeds fan from Middlesbrough and the Leeds fans invaded the city end . Bristol City away was interesting . Leeds took 3 specials One from Leeds. One from London. and one from Lancashire . Me and my mates ended up in a little fight with these young Bristol kids who were about our age 15 /16 who asked us for a fight and we ended up chasing them down the street . One of them dropped his scarf . When we got back to the ground there was a park opposite the away end and there were a few Leeds fans playing football All of a sudden a large group of Bristol City fans came walking through the park and the Leeds fans stopped playing and backed off to see what they were going to do .These Bristol fans seemed to be mainly punks and there were a few Black lads with them .Nothing happened as the police turned up ..In the ground my mate set fire to the Bristol Scarf when they scored and a copper came through and arrested him He dropped the scarf on the copper by accident nearly setting him on fire . We lost and I think Hunter Scored for Bristol ? The Forest game . I think it was their first game back in the first division They were ridding high . They brought a massive special and as we watched them come out of the station their main guys were wearing balaclavas . As the police penned them in outside the station a few Leeds fans nipped to the army and navy store and came back wearing balaclavas . When the escort moved Leeds who were now wearing balaclavas infiltrated their escort and attacked the forest fans causing confusion in their ranks and they ran back to the station .

The BIG difference then to now is the BLOODY BALL!! Yes the ball has changed from a pigs bladder to a medicine ball to 1966 when the ball then, approx '66, with its' bounce ' dynamics ruled decade after decade, including the' 90s, THEN in the noughties it changed to what you have now, which is a ridiculous helium filled large ping pong ball. BIOOOONNNNG! Great goals used to be special rare things, now its commonplace. Its made the game incredibly fast that great Hunterish tackles have gone. In indoor soccer the ball is smaller & was fast & very bouncy & todays ball is a larger version of that. I would like today's players have a game with the trusty ball we had for decades that created the game we love, PLUS pitches. Pitches used to weather that added spice to the season. Now, its just a carpet that looks just the same at the end of the season from sunny August. I was watching a 70s clip of Derby vs whoever in about January & the Baseball Ground was renowned for its 'winter' pitch which was by then mud & sand plus water, anyway the players just got on with it, splodge splodge splodge.. and gave a exiting skillful game. Its just soooooooo boring now. Its just a video game now, the players look like video cutouts now. Thank God for KZfaq. What do you young 'uns think of the game from the magic 70s that you see on KZfaq to the game now? Now the Beatles & 60s music is still......

Another excellent film. I was at the Forest game. I remember Peter Withe being livid with the linesman for a blatant handball by Frank Gray. The entire Gelderd End were astonished it wasn't given. Amazing footage again.

Love these clips, as they bring back many happy memories and some not so happy ,but it's all in our history.I met one of the solicitors who represented Don or Billy while i was on holiday in Antigua through and he told me about it briefly. That Daily Mirror pantomime...HA! ,Stott was the one offering bribes for lies ,the problem is most wanted to believe that tatty newspaper because it made a good story! Read the facts unless you want fiction and in that case the Mirror is more suited to you.

Harvey/Steward, Gray F., Cherry, Flynn, McQueen, Madeley, Lorimer, Hankin, Jordan, Currie, Graham. Such a good team. Still wasn't bad when McQueen, Jordan and Lorimer were replaced with Hart, Hawley and Harris. But somehow it never quite came together.

Yep, ludicrous decision. There's no way on earth that anyone could tell whether the whole of the ball was over the whole of the line in that situation. That's not an argument for video evidence, VAR or whatever mind you, but the referee should simply wave play on.
