More vintage action from Elland Road here as United took on Nottingham Forest on the 1st May, 1971. Revie's side won the game 2-0 with two great goals from Billy Bremner and Peter Lorimer in front of 43,083 fans.

I am a Birmingham fan. I watch a lot of videos of Leeds from the 70's. It was hard game then for Christ sake. I don't see them any different from the other teams. And they played some wonderful football. Yes, Eddie Gray was a wizard.

No different at all mate. It was a man's game back then .All teams had their hard men and dirty players.

All teams had their hard players. Leeds were picked on because they were successful

@@duncanboolay9424 I agree. I recall a doc when this was put to Ian st John, we could play football but if teams wanted to mix it we has Tommie Smith, Ronnie Yeats, Gerry Bryne.

What a great advert for the beautiful game,Unlike todays win at all costs mentality, with diving being almost encouraged.Feigning injury is my biggest bug bear,.Give me the old game any day,

John Winfield was some player. Astonishingly, he never played for England. He should have had 80 caps.

The Leeds team of the period of 68 to 74 is very similar to Manchester City of today. I think Gundogan is also very similar as a player to Billy Bremner different personality though.

I'm probably biased being a lifelong Leeds fan, but I think he was every bit as good as Best.
@CB-xr1eg7 жыл бұрын
Not easy to say that as Gray had a few serious injuries.

It's odd watching these old matches. I expect the ref to blow for an infringement when a keeper handles a backpass. When Macklin mention Mckenzie, I thought I'd stumbled into a time paradox, then remembered Dunc played for Forest then. I was a fan of Revie's Leeds but thought Forest had a decent side in the sixties which they pissed away selling off every decent player.

Forest keeper should've been booked for the handball outside area.

As a neutral and having watched many of these matches of the 60's and 70's online, I feel compelled to ask, "Who was the better midfielder/winger....George Best or Eddie Gray?
@grahamwalker16466 жыл бұрын
Robert Roberts No doubt about Eddie Gray was THE man on the wing.
@mizofan6 жыл бұрын
Gray was a superb winger, Best better all round, scored a lot more goals but not a great team player, underachieved and overrated by many
@CB-xr1eg6 жыл бұрын
Busby was too soft with Best, he needed a Shankly, Revie or even Clough, to keep him on the straight and narrow.
@erniebishop86415 жыл бұрын
Eddie who? George Best the clue is in the name Gray played for a team of thugs
@CB-xr1eg5 жыл бұрын
And Best was a pisshead who continually let people down. He was finished at 26 and eventually drank himself to death.

This time was a more honest time in the game, some did look to the referee for many decisions, But today, they look to the ref every bleedin time, I wont watch, or pay to watch the game today, its alien to me !
