Leela WITHOUT KNIGHT defeats 12-time Czech Chess Champion

Featured are 2 game reviews where Leela Chess Zero (LCZero) plays without a knight. The first game (5+3) is my first encounter with LeelaKnightOdds on lichess, where Leela is white and without a queen knight. The second game (3+2) is where LeelaKnightOdds plays as white without a king knight against 12-time Czech Chess Champion David Navara. Observe just how devastating Leela can still be at knight odds given opposite sides castled positions, space invader pawns, and/or the bishop pair! Consider subscribing here on KZfaq for frequent content, and/or connecting via any or all the below social medias. Your support is greatly appreciated. Take care, bye. :)

Leela scares me. Stockfish plays like an AI, it's fast, but predictable. Leela NEVER does what I'm expecting. Stockfish makes me go "Damn, I missed that move", Leela makes me feel like we're playing totally different games. I love these analyses.

Never let leela the bishop pair, never castle on opposing side, never underestimate leela pawn push ability and react really early. Glad to see you came to the same conclusion :) do you win the rook odds one ?

What I find crazy about these bots is how much control they maintain down a piece. Even games that I win against stockfish don’t feel like I’m up a piece until very late in the endgame.

Stockfish is like a sniper always finding the most insane tactical sequences 20 moves down the line. Leela is like an anaconda, never winning all at once but just squeezing the life out of you until you're completely paralyzed.

Leela without calculating a single ply is about 2300 strength just from her evaluation function. She sees so much without variations.

Probably because after black doubles the rooks the white rook on c1 will need more protection in some lines involving the opening of the c column. I imagine it's some sort of deep computer prophilaxis..

Leela (like all computers) was probably just shuffling because it saw no better plan. Many computers such as Stockfish do this as well.

@cjgeist

Leela's evaluation can be sort of unhelpful early on in these odds games. I think because it considers the position so completely losing, lots of opening moves are sort of equally bad, so it considers moves like 1.f4 acceptable.
@sonicast5631
@sonicast5631 2 ай бұрын
This is a Leela net specifically trained to play with a Knight odd. So, in a sense, this Leela is an expert in this position
@NaphthalinDD
@NaphthalinDD 2 ай бұрын
@@sonicast5631 Small correction; the net itself isn't trained to play with knight odds, but the bot uses a relatively high Contempt so it pretends to only be down a pawn or so.

I wonder why Leila played 32. Ra3, then 33. Ra2 on the next move? Seems like a complete waste of a tempo. But I guess the robot must know something I don't.
