ALL MY COFFEE STUFF + DISCOUNTS: www.hijabsandaprons.com/coffee I hope my review was helpful for you all! One aspect I forgot to cover was the tamper that comes with the machine. I likely forgot about it because I deliberately replaced it ASAP after getting my machine. I do not like it at all. The Breville tamper is plastic, too lightweight, and leaves the edges of the espresso puck untouched/untamped. So I highly recommend getting a heavier, durable tamper (traditional or palm tamper) that fits snug in the 54mm portafilters. ✌🏼Peace
@brianhawthorne7603
@brianhawthorne7603 Жыл бұрын
The Breville tamper is designed to work with the weird portafilter basket that has sloped edges at the top and then straight edges below. It seems to be their attempt to idiot-proof tamping. The tamper is too small in the top slopes section (which is why they provide a weird “razor” tool to scrape the sides), and it is too big to fit into the straight walled section, presumably to keep you from tamping “too much”. I plan to replace the portafilter and basket and tamper all at once!

This is a great comparison. I've also had my Barista Pro for about a year and totally agree with your assessment. I recently switched from steaming after pulling a shot to steaming first and then pulling the shot while doing the standard "swirl" to fully homogenize the milk texture. It's not perfect, but I've found it goes a little bit faster for me.

Thanks so much for your videos on the Barista Pro! I recently purchased one and thanks to your videos I was pulling near perfect shots within 15 minutes. Also on a side note they now include a dosing funnel with the Barista Pro which makes the process much easier.

Great video - I went for the Barista Express as a first machine, had it for about 2 years and it SAVED me during lockdown while all my friends and neighbors had to go without a decent coffee for months. I had no idea they sold levers for the steam wand. This is EXACTLY what I need as I usually hold the milk jar with my right hand and have to use my left to turn off the wand and in most cases I am simply not strong enough to close it with the weaker hand at a weird angle.

I've been using the Pro for more than a year now and I'm still enjoying it. The grinder is a good entry grinder especially for medium-darker beans, but in addition to your review, you should know that the 0,5g beans that is trapped on top of the grinder is not all.. the dead space of grinded beans is about 2,5g. In my experience, although I get ~17g of grinded material out if putting in 17g, about 2,5g is old - and then again 2,5g of the newly grinded beans remain in the grinder's dead space. That's why I just ordered a single dose hopper and bellow kit. Cheers

Noob here. 😁 What is a "single dose hopper" and "bellow kit". Is it an upgrade for this machine?
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons Жыл бұрын
Something like this amzn.to/43DZknS It has enough space for just one dose (instead of storing beans in the hopper) and the rippled bellows allow you to pump the last couple beans/chunks through the grinder to minimize retention. Hope that helps!

I turn on my Barista plus for at least 10 mins before I make coffee and always do a clear shot before making the first cup to condition the basket and group head plus heat the cup. Even the second cup is a better temperature the first which just doesn't quite make it. To be fair a professional will espress a couple of shots and dump them at start up. I have made coffee with a friends dual boiler and the same coffee beans produce a slightly richer, smoother coffee but the Barista plus or Pro still makes a "great" coffee for less than half the price of a duel boiler and grinder. Often a coffee from a professional barista at a cafe can be disappointing in spite of the superb equipment they have.

Pro tip you should fill the hopper all the way for consistent grind. It will also help with the beans being left on the side. It will grind what it's supposed to. You are never going to have every been grid and you should be cleaning it regularly. Getting all the oils out.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons 6 ай бұрын
I don't store beans in the hopper because I try different beans often and brew decaf in the afternoon. Also, I think it'll be an allegedly "consistent" grind amount until you get to the end of the bag/hopper and realize ~15g is missing from your originally-300g bag 🙃 Regardless of your hopper/single-dose method, always weigh your ground coffee (after grinding..) to determine your dose amount! And yes with this grinder you won't have zero retention but there are grinders out there that get you quite close to it 😊

I purchased my Barista Pro in the beginning of this year and watched a few of your videos to help me make a decision. I wanted a clean looking, all in one machine, that doesn't take up too much counter space. My experience so far has been mostly similar. I drink espresso most of the times, so I usually run two blank shots to heat up the grouphead, portafilter and cup. The only complaints I've had so far are the slow steam wand, that you mentioned. And I've found the chromed parts on the drip tray and the splash plate are easily scratched by cups or the occasional bump of the portafilter.

A single-dose grinder conversion will take care of that retention issue. I have one and I love mine. I also soften my filtered water in a separate pitcher with Osmotic Scale Reduction (O.Sca.R) Cloth Pack/Limescale Inhibitor. A puck screen to keep the grounds away from the shower screen. Trying to do what I can to protect my investment. Good luck.

I have had a Bambino Plus for about six months now and I have an Encore ESP (as well as a Kingrinder K6) and I must say that all of your cons list (grinder aside) applies to the BBP as well. Except, you don't get any of the pros. The auto steaming feature on the Bambino is "meh". And even with a separate grinder, the ESP, I have to bang on the lid. Though, only if single dosing. I notice that if I have the hopper filled with my daily beans + about 10 percent I get closer to what I put in out of it, if that makes sense. I think that the same might be true of the built in as well, based on some other videos. The difference being, a much more streamline workflow with a built in, or so it would seem. That said, as I mentioned in the ESP video, if I had to do it again, I would have gone for the Pro and got a hand grinder for decaf and specialty beans. Particularly in my case where I am making coffee for 3-4 different people regularly and I am the only one who drinks medium to medium light roasted specialty coffee. I think this would be the case even more so if the others in my household were the ones using the machine. My wife won't make coffee with the Bambino Plus because the workflow is annoying for her. Single dosing and all of that. Anyway, having not used the Pro I still think it fair to say that it is a better overall package for most people than the Bambino and a separate grinder. Particularly if you just want a good coffee and are not a hobbyist. Thank you for these videos!

Very good review. A few pointers, you always need to swirl your espresso when doing latte art. that is how you do it. As for the Barista Pro, I totaly agree on the fact that the grinder is the weakest part. It took me a year to buy a Rocket Faustino and I don´t regret it. The only reason you buy a Breville is it's simplicity, the fact you have a screen and you can program the volumetrics. Otherwise you should consider buying a Gaggia or a Rancilio. It will just give you more options changing your grinder or machine in the future. And FYI You should get a WDT tool, it helps a lot and specially with the Breville grinder

Hey there! Alsalam alaykom, I remember asking you about your thoughts about the Barista pro months ago and by far this is the best review of the machine out there! And by the way since then I’ve made the decision to go with the barista pro for your exact same reasons, And i have to say i absolutely love it! It’s by far not a flawless machine, but the fact that you get a decent grinder and all around good espresso machine for this price point is definitely worth it especially for someone just getting into the home barista world. I would recommend trying RDT as it helped me a little with the retention + getting an IMS basket as it helps getting better more consistent shots (note that you will have to grind finer with it). Thank you for the review and I wish you enjoy the rest of your day. ♥️

Earlier this year I bought a Breville dual-boiler and smart grinder. Yes, the two of them take up quite a bit more counter space than your Barista Pro, and I have less counter space than you! On the other hand it is a dual-boiler, which is a feature I wanted. The Smart Grinder is definitely under-powered for making espressos several times a day, so I replaced it with a more powerful one. Other than that, I'm happy with my purchase.

Amazing video and super helpful, thank you for making it. I am in the market for my first machine and really worried about making the wrong choice. Torn between going proper prosumer and getting a more advanced espresso machine and separate grinder, or just try out a cheaper all in one set up like this machine, as after a while you get into the groove of running blank shots to heat up sufficiently or tweaking the grinder. My worry is though as i get more into it (if i do), i don't want to find myself in the position of having to buy a separate grinder for an already all in one machine and getting annoyed at the output temperature. I appreciate this is a massive first world problem!! My question for you though, if budget wasn't an issue and you went with the dual boiler machine and separate grinder, do you think its worth staying with sage/breville or maybe looking at more prosumer machine brands? I looked at the rocket appartamento but that is 30 min warm up time apparently, which completely wrote that machine off for me!

I've had the Barista pro about two years now and got to say it makes a great cup of coffee. However now it lies dormant, because after back flushing it stops operating after 5secs, possibly due to a air lock. It happened before after back flushing and a local man repaired it.Breville wants their machines mended by them, so spares are hard to come by and most repairers won't touch them. So due to my experience I would never buy this brand again.

Yes its a great machine , but its hard to get someone to repair it except Sage. Mine was out of action for 3months before getting through to their help line. This review is great! But it does keep annoying me about the “thermo coil” that heating system is the one that uses the breville barista express which can take 30 seconds to reach optimal heating at least even turning the steam wand can take 40 seconds. In the other hand the barista pro uses a heating system called a thermo-jet it’s faster taking 3 seconds to heat using the steam wand takes 10 seconds to purge but saying that the barista pro uses a “thermo coil” is not right.
@HijabsandAprons
@HijabsandAprons Жыл бұрын
Ah yes I understand, but I think I mentioned thermocoil because it literally is a coil that is flattened. It's still shaped like a coil, but that coil doesn't climb up a block as it does in the Barista Express. Also even though it is capable of producing shots more quickly after being turned on, you've got to run a couple dummy shot cycles to properly heat up the grouphead and portafilter. I've heard that in the Barista Express, even the portafilter can get warm while the machine heats up. In any case, I apologize because I didn't mean to imply the two heating mechanisms are the same. But if you look at a picture of the thermal coil for the Barista Pro, you'll see it is still a coil but flattened into a disc-like shape

Thank you for your in depth review and all your videos about this machine! I just recently purchased this exact machine in the same color and am super excited to make better coffee! I was just wondering if its normal to get water drops on top the plastic part labeled steam & water purger system? I found alot of water accumulation there as I pulled out my drip tray. And is it normal to accumulate water in the drip tray because I never purge my steam directly in there, so I dont know why theres so much water. Thank you!!

Wow. My barista pro after a day or two of grinding coffee has at most a .1 gram retention. And usually I’d spot on. I don’t know if I got a good machine or I’m just lucky. But I have never had a problem with retention.

Great review! I love hearing from people who’ve actually owned and operated a product for an extended time. I have a question, does the black truffle color get scratches and reveal the color underneath? From your video it looks almost brand new still. We just purchased this same barista pro in the black truffle and I love it, but I’ve heard it can get scratched and I’m worried about the long term look.

Thanks so much for watching!! I have not had any scratches at all. I dropped my drip tray once and it got a tiny dent in the front corner plastic but no paint came off 🤣

Could you talk about water management? I haven’t seen it addressed by people using these machines with large water reservoirs. Do you empty and fill fresh daily? If you are making espresso on a daily basis do you use the water left in the reservoir for a couple of days, and then wash the tank with soap and water after 2-3 days or more??

@HijabsandAprons it seems like the absolute ultimate pairing in ease-of-use, least mess and most versatile ( for those last-minute hands-off kind of days or really dialing something in with a bottomless portafilter) for the $$ and quality output.

Hi, I just bought a Breville Barista Touch. Thanks to your videos I wanted my own espresso machine😍, I adjusted the grinder like you did. Finally after 5 failed espressos hahaha it extracted the coffee at sec 8 and with crema, I used my decaf beans from Veracruz, México but need to try non decaf. Nevertheless it came out great, I usually drink capuccino, and still fail with my coffee art 🥲. Have you compared the barista touch vs barista pro ? I want to know your opinion about the touch. Thanks again for doing these videos. 💞

I got me a Gaggia bean to cup 750 dollar machine, (OK for conveinence sake) , not really happy per se. I think I would but a Dual Heat Breville (499 can get it at 250 on sale) or a Gaggia Classic and a Fellow Opus or a hand grinder. Simpler is better, then you dial it in as required. The Autos just do not have a great taste tbh.
