I just put one of these in this weekend on my Toyota Tundra after watching your video. This video was a big part of why I choose Leer over some of the other brands I was looking at. Like you I wasn't super worried about potential small drips coming down the sides so I've been very happy with it so far. As an absolute novice it took a little doing to get the cover aligned right to close properly, but once it was in everything else was great. I was also glad that this cover came with clamps that fit in the Toyota rail system (and also the standard clamps shown in this video), though it has basically made the rail system unusable. Anyhoo thanks for a great video, and to anyone looking for a bed cover this Leer model is a pretty good choice.

I'm considering the Leer for a Tacoma. Since it installs into the existing bed rails I know it removes a lot of the flexibility, but can you still use the factory tie down cleats in between the cover's brackets?

Great video...really love the car wash scene. What a testament to how well the cover actually works in wet conditions. I have a previous generation (X2T) of this cover from Leer on my 2017 Ram crew cab and love it. Haven't had any issues with water penetration ever...and have been through several storms on the interstate. Best feature of Leer tonneaus is you don't have to drill holes in the bed for drain tubes.

Great video. That broken clip was a real turnoff. Quality products should not fall apart when they are new.

You've helped me decide on getting this cover. Great points made regarding the small amounts of water any of these will allow in, its a pickup bed and it will drain out! I also like the 4-panel design which will allow me to use my 5th wheel hitch with the panels folded flat behind the cab instead of horizontally like 3-panel covers must.

This is a great video with lots of good info. I've heard the included instructions are pretty weak and that they strangely don't even mention that gasket/tape. Loved the 360 camera + lighting setup in the car wash, that was really well done. Thanks!

In mine it looks like the gasket for the front isn’t that at all. It’s dum dum or butyl tape for the corner in the front, along with the front edge of the trail caps. Thanks for your video. Also they started including the clips separately so they don’t break during shipping.

Preach on the whole issue of truck beds not being 100% water tight. I have the same thing with my canopy. There are just areas of how the tundra bed is built that will allow some water in. The water mostly stays in the corners anyways.

Great video on this cover. This is the one I'm going to be ordering to replace my SolidFold2.0. Just one thing I would like to add in. After watching the install video from LEER, those "extra bolts" were meant for installation only then come off after the main ones are tightened up

Not throwing stones, but a review of a properly installed cover would have been better. One of my key reasons for looking at these covers is to keep my luggage dry on a long trip in my F250. Seeing the parts you left off the install (like that front gasket on the bed), it would have been a better representation of the qualities of the LEER cover. Still, it was good to see the cover in action. Thanks for sharing.

I left the front gasket off because the instructions didn’t say what it was for. I try to do my reviews from the point of view of the average consumer who would just follow directions as is.

@@GearsGadgets Your channel being a source of information, I would think you'd not skip steps and install properly. If you had questions, I would have contacted Leer for proper direction to inform your followers. Saw another install video that did not install the gasket material on the bulkhead, and the front seal looked much more compressed which I'd imagine would eliminate the leak up front.

Have a 20 gmc 2500 with the camera in the rear brake light. Wonder if the camera view is obstructed when all panels folded up.

Looks to me like a slightly better design than some of the other many similar models that all cost about the same money. Powder coating the clips black and using nicer looking fasteners shows some attention to detail I haven't seen on any of the others where they are just raw aluminum and big hex head zinc plated bolts. The electric roll up one is cool but like you asid it takes so much space... and with any of those internal rollup type covers I am always concerned about being able to use it in winter.

i have a Chevy. Did that last bracket near the tailgate interfere with the bed pocket? I'm guessing there's just a flat washer in there, but it's not clear how far in the bolt went. I need full access to that pocket for racks.

I like it. I just don't see the point in spending a $1000.00 when water still gets in no big deal but I paid $225 for a soft top that is pretty much the same. I like that it's hard top and the opening latch works from either side. Not sure about spending $700 more for it. Thanks for a great review 👍

You're paying for security with the $1000 hard tops. I have thousands of dollars worth of tools that are in my work truck bed. Any fool with a knife could get through a soft cover quickly and quietly. It would take a fool with a crowbar making some noise to get into a hard top. All covers will leak a little. My last truck had a solid fiberglass hinge top that covered the bed rails. Things stayed pretty dry but sometimes at the carwash it might get some water. Soft tops also tear easily with construction materials and tools so it's really all about how you use it and keeping people out.

have a chest box and can't use it with the 2:40 cover on my 2000 f250 8' bed. it is a 2nd sometimes work truck. Would like the out of town security without always moving taking out the tool box. Rails on cover don't accomidate width or height of box. any sugestions othet than a smaller tool chest?

This cover has caught my eye along with a couple others. My question is does it rattle going down the road? Every video I’ve seen when they close it, I hear that rattle. Or even some have slapped the top talking about what it’s made of and I hear it. Answers would be appreciated.

You didn't read the instructions, the bottom clamp bolts are only used to position the clamp, then are removed after install. The upper bolt remains, alone.

Love the tonneau cover but their customer service sucks. I purchased this cover over two months ago. Upon installation, the clip that holds the passenger side prop rod during storage broke. I contacted Leer who said they would send a replacement. Long story short I'm yet to receive the replacement after contacting them several times.

What bed length is that truck? they say in the add it doesnt block the 3rd brake light when its up but only show the 5ft bed would like to know if it is blocked on the 6ft bed because i unload dirt bikes in the dark and dont want my main light source blocked

My bed length is 6 1/2 foot and it does not block the 3rd brake light when its propped up. It does block most of the window though.

Any chance you could measure the panel section closest to the cab? Trying to see how far back the cover extends when folded up to determine if I’ll be able to see my hitch when backing under a 5th wheel camper. I thought I would just divide the bed length by 4 but that assumes all panels are the same width plus it looks like another 3-4” section next to the cab.

About 16", I would say assume about 18" in the propped up position. Hope that helps. Sorry it took me a week or so to get back to you.

I will give you my review of my purchase of a Leer HM650m tonneau cover. I really like the cover, but the customer service is zero from Leer. My cover came with a broken clip that holds support arm on the passenger side and a missing clamp. I have contacted leer several times over the last month and have not heard a word from them. Very disappointed…..

Great videos with great content sir. Thank you. Now TONNEAU is actually pronounced TONNO. As it is a French word and in French, when the word ends with EAU it is pronounced O. For instance EAU means water in French and it is pronounced O. Same for the Tonneau Cover. I hope this helps sir. Again fantastic content. Thank you for all.

Bought one of these. Totally expected some drips on the sides. One of the seals on the fold leaks terribly. Leaves puddles inside my truck bed. Have contacted Leer to no avail. Very disappointed.

I really did enjoy your video. I do understand that it is a pick up truck however, if I’m paying $1000 plus for one of these covers, then I better not be having any water spill into my bed. Now if these were priced at maybe $500 or so, then yes I could get over the water. But for $1000, I’ll take my money else where. Just me though.

Fair enough but 99.9% of those leaks were from stake pockets that I had left open and the tailgate which isn’t watertight on its own. Any real water penetration from the cover seals was virtually non existent except right at the tailgate where pressurized water hit directly on the seal at the top of the tailgate. I think my test more than proves it’s watertight against low pressure rain water.

Great video brother!! Don't put the bike in the truck!! Trust me you won't like making that happen...to awkward and to dangerous!! Get a small trailer with a low ramp for your bike and leave the truck bed for other cargo!!! Also....it's not pronounced "ton-noo"....figure it out!! 😄

I don’t why you wouldn’t follow instructions when a company sends you product (I assume free). Probably a lesson learned for the Leer rep. Anyway kind of a waste of my time watching this since it wasn’t installed correctly. It’s a shame because overall your video was great. It’s only in the last few min that I find out steps were skipped

Because my goal in reviews isn’t to be a corporate produced how to video, it’s meant to be a realistic “most people don’t read instructions” video. I also made that crystal clear with the Leer rep before we agreed to anything because I am honest and transparent so no issues there. I appreciate your concern. Sorry that an 18 minute KZfaq video is like watching 25 hours and 7 minutes of the Star Wars trilogy and is too long for you to sit through to find out how it ends. If you have time to type out such a comment, I think you can hang out for a couple minutes to understand the context of what you are watching. Good thing is…. You are able to start your own KZfaq channel and can improve upon what you perceive is a lack of good content to improve, other option is to consume what others produce good bad or indifferent.

If you spent a fraction of the time reading instructions as you did filming and editing you would have my loyal following. Why do you expect things to be water resistant? Because they cost a lot of money. If you get comp'd by the manufacturer, cost is not a big deal. But for the average joe....expectations go up as prices do. Men on the moon in 69 and these lazy manufactures can't figure out how to make things more water resistant. They can....but profit is more important than things staying dry.

The tonneau covers do help keep things dry. Unfortunately people have unrealistic expectations not realizing truck beds are not standard and every manufacturer has holes all over the place for tie downs and drainage not to mention tailgates being unsealed. The do make waterproof options, they are called full-size SUV’s and box trucks. Buy what you need instead of blaming the aftermarket for not delivering things they aren’t telling you they deliver in the first place.
