We have leftover women here in the United States too. They are called feminists.

What's interesting is that career-obsessed men are pegged as selfish and unreliable partners, and they are routinely divorced by spouses that feel neglected, and they are derided as deriving their sense of worth and well-being from their achievements and possessions; when the shoe is on the female foot, however, I'm supposed to feel bad that they can't seem to find a partner. Men have typically been pretty shitty at balancing demanding careers with relationships, and I think with good reason--it's fucking difficult. Why is that so hard for young women to understand?

I once dated a Chinese girl. I couldn't forget how she asked me about my income and do I have a car and a house on our first date. I have to admit, she is the most beautiful lady I ever see. (She could have lead a normal yet blissful life if she isn't so beautiful) Update: 14 Jul 2014 She was 29 years old then. She will be 30 this year. In China, marrying at age of 24 is already "a very old age" to get married. Hence the Chinese saying: "When you (a girl) are 20, your mom hopes you will be married to a wealthy man. When you are 25, your mom hopes you will be married to a good man. When you are 30, your mom hopes you will be married to...whoever, as long as he is a man will do." She is a nurse. She is cute, adorable and very kind-hearted. I hope she could find herself a good husband.

I think I understand what the problem is. What do women look for in a husband? They want a husband who is her SUPERIOR. Someone who is taller than her, who can protect her, provide for her and lead her. These are predominantly traits that are connected to career success and income level (except for tallness). From this, we can see that the more successful a woman is, the higher her standards in men become. Remember, women want a man who is her superior. If she earns 200k per year, there is no way she would want to marry a man who earns only 40k a year. As her income level goes up, so does her requirement in the man's income. But unfortunately, there is a deadly problem here. What do men want? It's simple, they want a wife who is physically attractive and also subservient, but PRIMARILY physical attractiveness. They DON'T CARE about how successful she is in her career. Men can take care of themselves. They don't need a woman to do that for him. A highly successful 35 years old single man who earns 300k a year is NOT going to go for the 35 years old single woman who earns 200k a year. He is going to go for the more physically attractive 20 something years old with a low level income because that is the quality that he is looking for. Now logically speaking, as your demand goes up, so must your offer. And for these career-oriented women, this is where the problem lies. Her standard goes up over time, but the value of what she has to offer (which is physical attractiveness) does NOT go up overtime. In fact, the value of it DECREASES over time creating a vicious process that results in these "leftover women" aka women with very high standards but have very little to offer back. I'm pretty sure though that these "leftover women" were sought after by many men when they were younger. But they rejected all these men probably because their income level was too low, mistakenly thinking that the more successful they become the more likely it is for them to end up with a man with an even higher income. BAD idea. They couldn't be more wrong.

Women these days in eastern and western nations do not want to do traditional roles of women such as cooking, cleaning, caring for the family, volunteering in the community to help society, and so forth. They do not want to learn or have the willingness to try cooking and cleaning. Instead the women want to club/party, hang out at bars, vacation, have other people doing home responsibilities, hang out with friends, and have a carefree lifestyle. Many of these women also lack good character and therefore always fighting with men, shaming them, and using them for their money. The women these days do not want a husband, but a rich, tall, good looking, highly educated man who drives a luxury car and own a home or condo because they want to say and boast to society that they have it all. The women are not interested in having a husband, and being a wife to that husband, but the women want a trophy man to boast to family, friends, and society. Divorce rate, marriage problems, broken engagements are high now and keep growing in all parts of the world due to negative influences of feminism, Hollywood, liberal media, reality shows, love for materialism and money, and such that influence women. It's rare to find women with good characteristics who wants to do traditional roles and be loyal to a her husband through thick and thin. Women don't want to be a helpmate to a man instead they want to use and dump him for their selfish purposes.

Well considering that the number of men single men , are higher than the women, I think the problem may be that the women want a man in her same income bracket. But, those men want young women... Just like in America.

Evidently it's making such an impact that China has finally repealed the "one child" law. The male to female ratio in China is so out of whack from that law that I personally know people affected by it! I know a Chinese guy, that has a korean wife. I also have a friend from Vietnam whose sister married to Chinese guy. If there's "leftover women" in China, it's their own doing! Not being mean, just saying.

I'm an Irish woman and taught in China for 3 years. Once I turned 24 everyone around me started giving me dating advice and trying to arrange dates for me. I left because, even as a foreigner I felt the pressure. Even for women who marry young, the divorce rate is so high, or even worse, domestic violence is not spoken about in public, but is not uncommon.

I think it's exaggerated. I'm sure many men would still marry them, the thing is these career women should realize its not always bad to marry a man who earns less than you provided he has a stable job also and is a good guy. Too many of them want to marry that's wealthier, it's not just because of greed but because of culture. A man who earns less is sometimes perceived as less of a man but in our modern more equal society they need to change that perception or they will be single forever.

i think they watch too much korean dramas.. it's actually common in south korea and japan too. their age limit is about 30 though. if you are over 30, then you gonna have hard time getting married AND getting a job. yes, employers do discriminate old people in their 30s in east asia. so, you can imagine how stressful it is to live as old men/women over there.
