Shawn reviews the Legacy Standard Bible. Is this new English translation a worthwhile addition to the English speaking church? Is it too wooden? Is it accurate enough? What translations is it most similar to?

I studied the NASB95 versus the LSB. In my opinion, the LSB is far superior. I never like the practice of the NASB95 of placing many of the more literal readings in the margins. The LSB has reversed this practice in many places. If you want to see LSB translation notes, you should check out the free version of Accordance. Concerning my favorite bibles, the LSB is tied with my NKJV.

I’ve definitely fallen in love with the Esv and then LSB already since reading it. I love reading both and comparing! I really like the CSB too but I gotta stick with my number one favorite the Esv 😇

Thanks for the great review. I read the LSB the year it came out (on Kindle) and really enjoyed it. I don't know if it could ever unseat the NKJV and ESV as my favorite translations, but I do have a high opinion of it.

The English speaking world is very much blessed with the NKJV. I wish we had a bible as readable, beautiful and exact as this one in our language. Greetings from Germany

Thanks for your post. I purchased the Legacy Standard Bible right after it was released. It's a great supplement to the NASB 95.

Do you know of ECM? This version of the critical text reverted a lot of changes back to the majority text as they consider these renderings as being the initial ones. The point is that the LSB used ECM as their primary textual basis. Unfortunately, ECM is only out for the Pastorals, Acts and Mark yet - but you can check the manuscripts yourself since ECM is online available and getting updated

A few comments. 1) Interesting that you like the transliteration of YHWH but not measurements or other names. If they want to be accurate.they can't put metric measurements, nor would the American audience have any more clue as to what those mean. 2). I'm glad to hear your preference for the underlying text. Such an important issue. 3) My biggst problem with the LSB is one you did not mention: the name. This NEW Bible is not "Legacy" nor any kind of "Standard." Why would they use words so loosely on a Book that is built on words having objective meaning? This seems to undermine the translation even before one opens the cover.

To be honest, I didn't even consider their name. Now that you point it out, if anything, it just smacks as prideful arrogance to put out a new translation and claim it as the Legacy Standard. And let's be honest, if you are claiming to be the English Bible of Legacy and the line of standard - you need to follow the standard, accepted Text line of the Masoretic and Byzantine texts.

@@RevReads I am not an expert, but I heard an answer about the name in a video where they said that it was named "Legacy" in reference to the NASB version, they are continuing the legacy of the NASB translation.

The lack of translation notes in most print editions is a major weakness of the LSB. Digital versions do include them but I like it at the bottom of the page. Thankfully this is fixable as they print more.

I have a hard copy. Pros: translation philosophy, paper, format. Cons: no footnotes/marginal notes, no cross references, no concordance. Conclusion: I would wait for them to put notes, concordance, etc, before buying a hard copy. Definitely better than the NASB2020, slightly different than NASB95, not sure that it is any better than NASB77. Having said this, I totally agree with Shawn that if they would have used the Majority/Byzantine text for the NT, this would probably be my new everyday use Bible.

Litra is the most Litral translation! 🤣 I haven't really had the inclination to purchase this one, and I'm still left with the question: "In an age of a proliferation of English Bible translations, why the LSB?"
@RevReads
@RevReads 2 жыл бұрын
I think we will keep getting more translations, because it is only natural when you have people who know Hebrew and Greek to think they can improve this and that and so they put out another translation. The proliferation of translations just indicates that we have a lot of people who know Hebrew and Greek. People were complaining about too many English Bibles when the KJV came out in 1611.

The Newer LSB "Inside column reference" has notes and references that are very helpful! But you are correct that the notes are biased in favor of critical text.

I don't like the ESV. I rarely agree with their translators when they go a different way. I haven't read it for at least 5 years because it frustrated me too much when I would read it or use it for study.

I understand their attempt to be literal but such translations are great for teachers, for the most part. I am a Majority Text guy, if I were to buy one, I would teach from it in the Old Testament and perhaps on a few passages in the New Testament where there are no textual variants.

You're right to be wary of another translation - they're clearly just $$$ grabs for publishers and done to keep pompous translators in work. There's more than enough English bibles on the market. The LSB was a complete unnecessary piece of work.

2 Sammuel 21:19 LSB There was war with the Philistines again at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite struck down Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. The most accurate bible is still the KJV which accurately describes Elhanan killing the brother of Goliath and not Goliath who was killed by David . The Most accurate translation is the LSB ? Did these so called scholars miss Sunday School? Every word of God is pure . God warns about adding or subtracting from his word. How embarassing judgment seat will be for you!

The modern Bible versions like the LSB say the opposite of the KJV in certain verses. For example, the KJV calls those who worshipped idols “superstitious,” whereas the LSB calls idol worshippers “religious.” “Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.” (Acts 17:22 KJV) “So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects.” (Acts 17:22 LSB) The Zionist disciples of Satan were able to change their Bibles to make Israel a "spreading vine" in the NIV and even a "luxuriant vine" in the NASB, ESV, and the LSB in Hosea 10:1. God, however, states that "Israel is an empty vine" in his KJV Holy Bible at Hosea 10:1. “Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.” (Hosea 10:1 KJV) “Israel is a luxuriant vine; He produces fruit for himself. The more abundant his fruit, The more altars he abounded; The better his land, The better he made the sacred pillars.” Hosea 10:1 LSB) So we know from that issue that the KJV is God’s word or the modern Bible versions are God’s word. They cannot say the opposite of one another and both be God’s word. This is a foundational issue. This is a major issue. There is no middle ground here. "Choose ye this day whom ye will serve." Joshua 24:15. Edward Hendrie Author of "HOAX of Biblical Proportions"

Great video. If I may correct you and so many others who says Yahweh translates to God from Hebrew... it doesn't. It translates to Hashem or HaShem. Yes, every Tanakh and Chumash states it as such.
@RevReads
@RevReads Жыл бұрын
HaShem is "the Name" in Hebrew. Orthodox Jews use HaShem or Adonai in place of God's Name because they refuse to say God's Name out of fear of taking His name in vain. God's name in Hebrew is YHWH. It is pronounced Yahweh or Jehovah (I think Yahweh is more likely.) HaShem is just another way to not say God's Name like when we put LORD in our English Bibles instead of Yahweh.

No way, I'll always have my KJV until someone can pry it outta my cold, dead hands. Randy White once said "we ought to put our big boy pants on and learn to read it". Money grubbing publishers are in league with our enemy in changing what was once an English standard (with its oddities, but also accurate plural pronouns) so that None of us are on the same page anymore and no-one excels at scripture memorization. Thy Word have I hid in my heart is now impossible - exactly what Satan wants. Now sit back and think a while, how would you stack that up against promoting narcissistic personal reading preferences? Grace and peace brother! (tempered with a little hot-button sauce😁 )🌹

@@whambamcunningham1116 Well brother, that's quicker to the draw than some 5-point determinist's! 😂 No, I'm like my above mentioned pastor "KJV preferred" and I use the Newberry Interlinear and Young's literal now and then. As for a balanced view of KJV-O, I could recommend his friend and historian-author, Bryan Ross (GraceLifeBible) in a video named "A Brief History of the King James Only Movement" and quite possibly others like "King James Q & A" and "The Making of the King James Bible--New Testament by Laurence M. Vance" which is a book this channel might also consider for review. Grace and peace!🤗

re. the Hebrew of Genesis 37:33. When you have infinitive absolute followed by a perfect the verbal idea is intensified - Yosef has surely been torn to pieces. An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax Bruce K. Waltke and M. O'Connor 35.3.1 Absolute Complement: Usually the intensifying infinitive with the perfective conjugation forcefully presents the certainty of a completed event, as in ‎טָרֹ֥ף טֹרַ֖ף, 'Without a shadow of a doubt he has been torn to pieces'
