With great power come great responsibility! I loved how classic D&D worked with magic items when nobody had access to an Identify spell. The storytelling opportunities are plentiful, and as long as you're good at encounter balance, I think you have outstanding ways to introduce large plots to the group when the BBEG or their lieutenant comes along and wants the item. Great video!

I think that is a great point when it comes to identify! It probably shouldn’t be able to identify something so powerful. It is situations like that where legend lore steps up to the plate!

@@bluedragonguild I’m all for changes to the game like this. As long as everyone understands the differences when they make their choices, you’re golden! One of my favorite games I’ve ever been part of is our homebrew world that’s a low magic setting. We built different kinds of fighters, rogues, etc… and had a BLAST because the stakes felt so high when combat got deadly. Never be afraid of trying something new like this. It can really freshen things up!

Giving legendary items out at first level could be dangerous, but it’s a lot of fun! I like items that grow with the characters, but there’s certainly something to be said about the epic level sword in the hands of a level 1 fighter. It’s reminiscent of Rand’s Heron Marked Sword from Wheel of Time and you could almost have an Afro Samurai quality to it where if people know you have it, they’ll want to take it from you.

Oh very dangerous! But def fun! I also like items that grow with characters, which is why I like the Vestiges of Divergence so much. And yes, once people know what you have it is game on!! Thanks for the insight!

I've had success with the idea of "evolving" items, sort of like hoard items but rather then time spent in a dragon hoard its time spent with the player. The longer they have the item it grows in power with them into a legendary artifact. It makes a lot of really fun plot points and interest narrative for your to mess around with!

I love that idea! I had tried some of that in the earlier days of 5e, but never really had a “smooth” way about. At least I didn’t feel like it did.

He basically gave our minotaur barbarian a homebrew item and didn't elaborate on what it was. He attached a spectral anchor to his chest that he has no idea how it got there and now we are looking for the original creator. The only thing he knows is that it can be used the same as his other one except it is permanently attached to him with a spectral chain
