It’s been nearly four weeks since the savage, quadruple murders of four University of Idaho students and there’s still no suspect or weapon.
So, what’s going on?
Legendary criminal psychologist Ann Burgess has spent her entire lifetime deciphering the criminal mind. She’s one of the original mind hunters from which Netflix based it’s super successful show - and is here to breakdown all the details of the Moscow murders.
Ann is joined by Dr. Gary Brucato a clinical psychologist, researcher and author in the areas of early psychosis, violence and other serious psychopathology.
Jeff Wood, retired FBI out of Boston, rounds out this trifecta of terrific guests.
Let us never forget those young lives lost way too soon: Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

I really dislike statistics, because not everything falls into boxes. When my child went missing and I was given all of these stats repeatedly by LE and why he wasn’t missing ( our child was at University, his fiancé of 4 yrs had just graduated from University ) and LE kept telling us “oh he just went to LA with his buddies.” We knew he wouldn’t bug out on Valentine’s Day when he had a special gift made for his fiancé & a dinner planned. We talked to him at least 3x a week & helped with finances. Yet we had to fight LE to listen to us, bc LE kept repeating he would show up in 10 days, stats shows this. He showed up in 6 weeks. He was murdered. Young ppl, pls keep in touch with family, let them know your travel plans. They will fight for you when you need it the very most! Stay safe, vet your friends carefully! Parents support your children & love them. Each day you have with them is a true gift.

@A Z That’s not so far fetched! I know a person who bought a gun mounted night vision goggles ( so you can only see out of your dominant eye ) he used it to see where the raccoons were getting into his yard to his garbage. It is illegal to hunt at night, so idk why they sell them(?) but he found the issue & fixed it. Btw, that gun mounted night vision goggle was not expensive & you can watch Deer eating at night in his orchard. We watched him sneak up to the Deer & he was able to touch one! It was really cool! But now it’s really scary.

We should also be far more aware of how we effect, treat or, ignore others. One is preventative harm coming to us, the other is harm coming to anyone. Law enforcement uses the acts of mass murderers as political force to ratchet down on freedoms because they think they can use or believe that control will save people. It's actually more succesful to just stop ignoring the perpetuated environments that create criminals than stop them once they've killed. Humans are born with two things, the expectation that their vulnerable cries for help will be met with nurturing and that once mature enough they will be able to exert free will. You let them down on the first one, they will violently force the second.

This was very well done. Appreciate the input from you and your guests. Most all of us watching social media true crime have had many, if not all, these examples in our minds. I pray the murderer has or will make big mistakes and not remain elusive. In my young years, I have had stalkers, very strange guys that attached themselves to me for no reason, guys that were immediately angry with me for being out going, outspoken, and almost fearless. I trained and rode huge horses and they seemed to feel that made me a woman “being overpowering.” There was more than a few times I actually hid from some of them. It hit me that I was at the beginning of women’s lib. Yep. The guest stating it caused more hate crimes and DV, if you will, toward women being liberated was something I watched first hand. Even my mother felt I needed to realize that could happen and would get angry with me for expressing opinions and “no being lady-like.” When the videos hit YT showing the girls “putting themselves out there” I posted that while they were so very beautiful and could do that, it wasn’t the best/safest behavior, as I learned from experience. Thank you again for your content and allowing us a platform for a public comment/missive. 🙏🏻
@michellecd4722
@michellecd4722 Жыл бұрын
@Debra Weber Yes, I don't think many people can fully understand & see the gravity of the darker aspects of women's lib. Even if you just look at how women have evolved to do pretty much anything, everything but the guys didn't get the memo to catch up, cook dinners, grocery shop, clean the house, do laundry, etc., women's lib was supposed to be about equal rights, not women to it all & then some & then we subconsciously hate them for it ;) lol. but not lol.

At around 24-26 minutes the man on the bottom right talks about envy and how the individual could be lashing out at those he perceives as accepted, desirable, loved, and socially relaxed. I like many others during adolescence have experienced this envy. It can be quite painful and I can remember the frustration, sadness, and sometimes anger at my own social difficulties and not being as accepted as I would have liked. Fortunately I worked through it like most people. We don’t know it it’s the motive but I can see how a disturbed individual could decide to project their inner turmoil onto others. The inability to tolerate and work through the anger and frustration can certainly be all it might take which is disturbing in and of itself.
@jo-eo9ld
@jo-eo9ld Жыл бұрын
If that is the case, the perpetrator ironically only made himself even more isolated and rejected from society and peers; actually, he made himself just about as “outside” and rejected as a person can possibly be pretty much, being a murderer. Almost inhuman, a monster. someone to never associate with or even speak of again. if he felt awkward and alone before killing, well, he will be completely alienated and outcast now certainly. It’s interesting and pitiful that this same (potential/alleged) social angst and desire for inclusion is exactly the thing which might have driven him to completely destroy and decimate any opportunity of accomplishing social acceptance, ever.

First in my option any time a knife is used, (when it is released) where the wounds were placed and what was done, you are going to feel this was indeed sexual rage. I think we will find out it was not just stab wounds. This was not a random kill, the person that did this was familiar with the weapon, and he knew these girls, and has been watching them and the house.

Yesss. I’ve said this from the start. I believe this is somebody who feels rejected by society or feels rejected by this particular group of people. I’ve also said that right now he/she is probably watching their P’s and Q’s, however if this turns into a cold case, I think their ego is inflated to where they’ll be able to strike again. Maybe not in Idaho though. Overall it’s horrifying to think about this turning into a cold case. 4 victims who deserve justice. I know law enforcement is doing everything that they can ❤

@@annresnik6059 Yes, women absolutely DO knife murders. Jodi Arias and Ezra McCandless both did. And those were both Ego/Rage murders, intended to be personal, painful, violent, and degrading. Of men they had been in relationships with. But these murders? No.. impersonal murders, of women - multiple women, especially with a knife or knives. That is absolutely the work of an inadequate man. fantastic panel you put together here! I'm very impressed by their knowledge and way of explaining in an easily understandable way. Up until now I was leaning towards a stalker or someone being bullied by one ore several of the victims, as it's also being supported by the overkill on one of the victims. Actually it's a lot more scary to think the murderer didn't target anyone specifically or for a reason one could kind of 'understand'.

I have always thought it could be envy of the whole group by one person. The four were frequently sharing their shared experiences on Facebook and other social media and they seemed to have this "perfect "joy and happiness together. I think this was the specific characteristic of their group that could have promoted envy and profound hurt in others. It would be awful for any person who might have been or felt "rejected" by this particular group. I'm a group psychoanalyst, UK.

Sally Willis I've thought about this extremely important factor as well! It's helpful to know that a group psychoanalyst has verified it. I'm aware that situations can look much better on Facebook etc than in reality, or even from the outside looking in, in real life, so it would be a shame if it was the main cause of four precious young people losing their lives! It's a tragedy that it happened for ANY reason though. 😥

Yes, I thought of that. Why else would he have the chutzpah to break into a house occupied by 6 people? I doubt he anticipated a male being there, but he knew the occupants had been drinking and waited for the lights to go out. Once they were in bed asleep, the victims were even more vulnerable. I wonder if the perpetrator could see the lights in the house go out from his own residence.

I can personally speak to being absolutely, uncharacteristically, emotionless, hours after a very traumatic event - our son, passed, in a bedroom, only feet from me,with a police guard standing in front of his closed door. The mind does strange things to protect our sanity. I look back on this horrible day and cannot begin to understand how me and my husband were acting so ‘normal’, when we were far from it. Shock does this.

Very sorry for your son's passing. But however tragic, acting 'emotionless' or rather going through robotic motions is far more normal than speaking publically about it, daily. If his reactions were like someone has suggested, because of sedatives, he would be less active, not more so. Grief does go through stages. After losing 4 people you know all at once, I seriously hope all families & friends seek medical & mental help asap.

First, great discussion. All panel members had interesting perspectives. Regarding the 911 call, my understanding is one of the girls from the 1st floor came up and saw Ethen dead and ran out of the home and passed out and someone outside of the home walking by saw her, used her phone and called 911. So they were not referring to one of the deceased individuals when they said someone was unconscious.

That's what I've heard about the 911 call the past couple of days. It really annoyed and saddened me that the surviving roommates were being vilified by people for not calling 911 themselves, before having details about exactly what occurred. Those poor young women are also victims. ❤❤
