One of my favorites! I was a teenager when this came out! We were all buying it! And yes the 70's was the best! REAL TALENT! No autotune and they played their own instruments not computerize music!

I'm glad you're doing this version as a first listen instead of the Midnight Special video; this is soooo much better. This one makes you feel like you're at the concert, you can really get lost in the sauce! Now you can go watch the video and compare. I was a junior in high School when this came out - yeah, we had it pretty good with our music.

I'm pretty sure up to this point it was the biggest selling live album ever recorded. If you were a boomer into rock in the 70s this *WAS* in your record collection. It wasn't even a question. And although it had been used before, it really introduced a lot of people to the voice box guitar effect. That sound blew people out of the water. I was lucky enough to see him perform this in the early 2000s in Grant Park Chicago and it was every bit as historic as you can imagine. We in the audience played our parts well LOL, and I was suddenly 18 all over again.

That is why every single American youngster between the age of 15 to 25 years old had this album playing constantly for about four years straight! Phenomenal song & live performance! Fantastic live album!!!

You guys are right 💯%!! You say this performance was off the charts, and you couldn't be more right! Yes, there are other versions of this song live, but they don't hold a candle to THIS performance. There was definitely magic in the air that night. Every note was perfect, and perfectly executed!! One of the very best live performances ever, no doubt! I was 8 years old when this record came out, and yes, thank goodness for my older siblings in the house, they got it!!! This along with The Eagles Hotel California, Boston, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, that also came out that year...come on man!! 🤘🤘

I've seen Frampton do this song live several times and he always put on a great show! I have seen a good percentage of the bands you react to live and I always feel blessed to have been able have actually seen them. It is a real shame that there is nothing out there for guys like you to be able to experience this kinda thing live! Back in the 70's there were no Db limits so you could actually feel the kick drum and bass guitar thumping your body! Your ears would also be ringing for a few days but you really didn't care!

I am 62 years old. When I was a sophomore in high school, this song was on the radio every half hour. Peter Frampton became a massive rock star in no time.

Yes,..you are there,..for those of us like you listening to this on a turntable, or radio,..we were there too,..most dj's would let the cheering crowd play through,..so love that,..made me feel like I was there,..and too this day,..like you when it finishes,..I clap, its just such a phenomenal performance,..you have to give it props,..even if its a recording,..huh and when you said you felt different,..we know!,..like you a drift,.yeah,..without drugs,..you'll feel that,.its the music,..takes hold of you,.like others who mentioned it here,..he was on Midnight Special,..that show showcased I swear everyone,.Rock Soul, Folk,.Country,..it was the only way I was able to see the people I heard on the radio everyday,..American Bandstand, I forgot, also had a lot of bands,..even David Bowie and Elton John,..but Midnight Special,.man, they were the hook up,..Lou Reed I think was on there, Aretha Franklin,..Al Green,..Loretta Lynn, telling you everyone,..do watch the performance Peter does,..God, watch all of them,..if it weren't for Wolfman Jack, Ed Sullivan (Ed Sullivan show,..he had the likes of The Doors, The Who, Dione Warrick, Marvin Gaye, Paul Revere and the Raiders), and of course Dick Clark,..I wouldn't have seen these bands,..up to his death, I never got to see David Bowie, live, in person, ..the 70's, were special,..the reniaissance of music,..R&B, Soul, Rock, Country,..there's a show Hee Haw,..comedy variety show,..ohh but the music, the musicians,..top notch,..this decade of music followed the 60's, another decade of innovation,..a hard act to follow, as the 70's was a hard act to follow,..groups in the 80's had to step it up, even though many dipped back into the past, using horns 🎷, and horn sections like the big bands use to, Modern English, Dixie's Midnight Runners, UB40, Adam Ant(anybody remember him, he just for some reason popped in my head today), just like in the 70's, rock and a little jazz, blues were mixed, bands, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Journey, ACDC, even the 60's too, borrowing a little something from the the music before, gospel, Melanie, Joan Baez,.and again blues with rock, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis,..in the 50's, Chuck Berry borrowed from a little classical music, turned music on its head, and forever changed the face of music, so very, very happy, your generation is discovering this music, I hope you will be lifelong fans, and in turn pass it on to the next generation, like an heirloom,...do enjoy along the way,..Peter is having to stop playing, medical reasons, I think he recently did a tour in Europe, if you check, think he has a website, and if he's still playing somewhere, and your able to go, do go! and see him in person, live, while he's still able to do it, Godspeed, Peace ✌

I was 16 years old when I went to a Peter Frampton concert at Bobby Maduro Baseball Stadium in Miami in 1976. It was a great show, and it was my concert. The talking effect during Frampton's guitar solo was a pedal connected to a wire that ran up to a mouthpiece connected to the microphone. Frampton would use the mouthpiece and varying weight on the pedal to create a talking effect via his guitar. It was really interesting and great to see and hear. Unforgettable.

He was always playing the guitar, as he used the talk box. It was never just him talking.

The talk box is hooked up to the guitar and the two make a sound together by the guitar player simultaneously talking into the box while operating the electric guitar. I THINK(?) David Gilmore used it sometimes but I’m not 100% sure. Peter Frampton is still alive with us today and seems like a very nice guy not that I know him-lol. I remember in the 70’s when I was a little girl I had an older teenager friend/neighbor who called me over to her house one day and brought me into her bedroom, slapped some head phones on me and said”LOOK AT HIM!!😍” It was his “I’m In You” album and I never was the same.Sexxxxyyyyy🥵 😁J in Tx

Saw Frampton during the '70s at 17 years old at those famous Day on the Green Concerts in Oakland CA. The music was the best. I'll never forget the 70's music. I may be old but I saw a lot of good bands 😁

Peter Frampton was always a favorite of mine even in his early days in the band HUMBLE PIE, which they had hits of their own. Peter Frampton later caught my attention with the 1975 hit " Show Me the Way". He is best known for his hit album " Frampton Comes Alive! which sold more than 10 million copies. He is a great singer but his guitar playing really stood out." I'm In You" is also a song worth listening to. Oh how I miss the Midnight Special so many great acts back then featured on that show, you guys would have really enjoyed it.

The effect is called a "talk box." A talk box is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone.

Best version of this song, live at Winterland, unfortunately I saw him perform this on a ‘Day on the Green’ about 8 months later but he still rocked the sh*t out of it, great reaction Brothers.

Gentlemen...I have heard this song hundreds of times in my life and I still get goosebumps, especially when I see this being new to someone who's never heard it. This was the greatest era of music, without question. 1976 was the greatest single year in all genres.

If you have the chance to go to see him on tour in 2023 definitely do so. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago and he still sounds just like that. He’s 73 and has to sit down to play because he has a degenerative muscle disease but he still sounds INCREDIBLE. I hope you get the chance.

The '70s!!! 1970.. I was 13 starting High School; "Stairway to Heaven" was our 8th-grade float theme. 1976 I graduated from High School= Frampton Comes Alive!! Imagine all of the MUSIC in between. I got to live the 60s as a child and hear these songs on the radio, watched the Beatles debut on Ed Sullivan w/my sisters and my mother. Rocked the '70s as a teen, and in the '80s started my 20s. Concerts I attended: Elton John, Diana Ross, Styx, Heart, the original Lynrd Skynrd (twice), Chicago, Neil Diamond, Bob Seeger (2x), Blue Oyster Cult, and more. I had no idea how singularly special that time in music was.

He is in a seventies now so this may be your last opportunity.... please don't miss it❗ He's incredible incredible incredible. I saw him in Denver back in 2011 and it was definitely the highlight of my 5 years living in the usa.

In the 50's the seeds were planted for Rock And Roll Music. In the 60's it grew stronger and became the mature music it was and in the 70's it blossomed and turned into the beautiful flower it was back then. I was born in April 1954, the same year as R&R, we grew up together, lucky me.

I was one of the lucky ones to see this tour in Dayton (or Cincy?) Ohio. We were all blown away! I knew of Peter from Humble Pie and Framptons Camel, but this was one of the greatest live albums of my generation. Yes, that is a guitar through a talk-box. The guitar notes come up through a tube into Peter’s mouth and he makes words/sounds by moving his throat/mouth/lips! As you can imagine….we were all blown away!

just so you guys know, I got to experience this live and in person at a place called Sun Tan lake near Riverdale New Jersey in 1992. It was a perfect summer day and I laid on a picnic table and listen to this live. It was the most peaceful restful memorable moment of my life. I could’ve died there and it would not have been a waste. What a performer and what show. I was about 22 then and now I’m 52. I got a real kick out of your reaction. It brought back memories for me. And I’m sure if you were their life you would’ve even enjoyed it more. But you guys are right there’s something about the song that’s just awesome.

70's music is the greatest !!!

Peter Frampton had a UK Top Ten single as a member of the Herd - he was 16 and was voted "The Face of 68" by a teen magazine. He chose not to go down the pop route but joined forces with Steve Marriot, of the Small Faces, who was a big star at the time. They formed Humble Pie but were not the huge success they might have expected. Peter then formed his own band Frampton but they were only moderately popular. Then out of nowhere, Frampton Comes Alive was released in 1975 and became a worldwide sensation...it was like a child movie star who could only get bit parts had suddenly won an Oscar. There was definitely a video of this concert but it doesn't seem to be available...it was the ultimate chilled-out good-time rock gig. Peter had a goofy smile and the look of a guy who was just having a blast and the guitar/voice box was innovative back then...this song still sounds great nearly 50 years on.

If you want to see Frampton preform this live you should check out The Midnight Special video here on YT. It's not as long as the original live album etc. But you can see him preform, amazing! I remember my sister going to see him live (this same album) in 1976 & I wanted to go so bad but being 11 wasn't going to happen. Thankfully we didn't live far from where they had it so I sat out on a blanket in the yard & listened to the entire concert!! Great memories
