Kim Yeon-koung (Korean: 김연경; Hanja: 金軟景; RR: Kim Yeon-gyeong, Korean pronunciation: [kim.jʌngjʌŋ]; born 26 February 1988 in Ansan) is a South Korean female professional volleyball player and a member of the FIVB Athletes' Commission. She is the outside hitter and captain of the South Korean National Team, and currently plays for Shanghai.
Kim signed a three-year contract with Fenerbahçe in 2011 after playing for Heungkuk Life in South Korea for four seasons and JT Marvelous in Japan for two seasons. She signed another two-year extension with Fenerbahçe and extended it for anonther season in 2016. She spent the 2017-18 season in the Chinese Volleyball league, and came back to Turkey in the following year with Eczacıbaşı VitrA.
Kim was the Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer of the 2012 London Olympics, despite South Korea finishing 4th place. She holds the Olympics records for highest score of 207 points in eight games, topping Gamova's record of 204 points in 2004 Athens.
Injuries
Kim has suffered from various injuries throughout her athletic career and has had four knee surgeries alone during 2006 to 2009 while playing for Heungkuk Life.
In 2012, she tore her right meniscus during the preliminary game against Brazil during the 2012 London Olympics which was worsened when failing to land properly during the quarterfinals against Italy. Ahead of the 2012-2013 season, Kim decided to push through with only rehabilitation and not receive surgery despite various health checks that advised her to.
In 2014, Kim broke her toenail whilst training, forcing her to miss a game against Eczacibasi VitrA ahead of playing the 100th game for Fenerbahce.
In 2020, during the game against Kazakhstan in the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament, she suffered from an abdominal injury. After receiving treatment from a local hospital, she played during the finals against Head Coach Stefano Lavarini's advice. Due to a worsened injury, she has to miss at least a month of the 2019-2020 season playing for Eczacibasi due to rehabilitation.

An all-around player still, in the age of 33. She’s one of the best attacker in the world, she digs like a libero, she blocks like a middle-blocker, she receives, the best defender in reception and of course the ace. Remember the living legend in volleyball history, the one and only, KIM YEON KOUNG.

Hope this year Korea won one medal cox this could be last time kim playing in Olympic representing her nations. She worked really hard to win medal. Hope all her dedication ,hard work,sacrifices and commitment paid off

Came here after watching her guesting on Running Man. The preview already made me interested in watching her probably because she seems to be like Lee Kwang Soo, but upon seeing her and the other players on the show, I got pretty hooked. She definitely has this strong aura in her that is very cute and likable. I won't mind seeing her as a permanent member on RM and I'm pretty sure I won't mind watching more of her games as a pro-volleyball player. She and the other volleyball players like Young Ji, Hee Jin, So Young, and the rest are so entertaining to watch. 🏐

It's a pity that we didn't get a medal in 4th place. However, as everyone knows, there were many expectations that Team Korea would have a hard time reaching the quarterfinals with objective strength. As a Korean, I thought so at first. However, the Team Korea advanced to the semifinals. So Team Korea didn't win a medal, but I think it was the best team that didn't give up until the end! I can't believe and I don't want to believe that I can't see Kim Yeon-koung anymore. Thank you for cheering Korea!

그냥 진짜 말이 필요없는 최고의 플레이어 그럼에도 내가 항상 말이 길어지는 건 찬양안하고는 못베기는 플레이라서ㅠㅠ 세터면 연결하는 능력, 리베로면 수비하는 능력, 스파이커는 공격하는 능력이 아무래도 뛰어나기 마련인데 킴은 그 모든 스탯이 다 최고치고 공격력은 그 중에서도 가장 강력하니... 정말 엄청나고 대단한 선수이며, 말도 안되는 리더십의 우리 캡틴 코트 위의 숫자 10과 밑줄은 정말 그렇게 든든할수가 없음

Good day...yes, KIM YEON KOUNG is one of my admired player nxt to the team thailand, NOOTSARA TOMKOM...the greatest players of all time...kim is such an adorable person inside out...& i discovered that she is also a roman catholic like me...and that add to my admiration to her...she is a great player...and to think that she will be retiring soon makes me sad...like nootsara...i doubt if i can find great volleyball players whom i wii rooting for....btw i forgot to mention that LEILA BARROS of team brazil was the first i admired so much...i'm a fan from the PHILIPPINES....good luck

I mean, Kim is AMAZING as always. But Hyo Jin out of system set at the end is amazing. Altho I did worry about Kim's back during that game, she seemed happy enough to score that point as it was pretty difficult.
