This was a great test actually, against a big army that has some counters to the doomstack and on a bad terrain.

Not really! Wood elves have no artillery, Skaven or Empire would be a way better counter 3 or 4 catapults or helstrom would wreak that stack... I think the stack lack a 2 nd engineer for more awesome ammo... And the stack is just plain, bad in sieges or if you are corner denied by forests

@@calgar42k Artillery would do nothing to this stack, in fact fighting artillery would probably help this army because of friendly fire. The AI is not smart enough to fire the artillery on your artillery, it would shoot at the Thanes and you could either dodge the shots wasting all the ammo or letting the AI fire into blobs of it's own units. Also, I don't know if you could build a better dwarf army for sieges. Not only do flame cannons kick ass in sieges, with all the heroes you could use oath gold to craft one or two stalk items and just have a few thanes walk to the victory point and win the fight without firing a single shot. Some maps are harder to corner camp than others, but it is not plain bad if you have to get creative, essentially with all the heroes. If anything, the amount of heroes makes it more resilient to bad corners than most other dwarf armies.

@@suzu_mio3563But you damn well try to run the opposite way anyway. But out the back door, you see Dwarves and advanced engineering war machines as far as the eye can see. You hit the ground followed shortly by the deafening thunder of gunpowder and brimstone and turn around to find the ogres and your hut completely decimated... but at least you're alive.

I have found that equipping each hero with the blue rare axe that gives a passive frost debuff is quite effective in these sorts of heavy range dawi armies as it adds an extra slow to troops and gives the range a bit more time to deal with the incoming enemy troops

In Thorek's army, they're fairly decent. Still, it's just 4 shots per volley, so never going to be like rocket batteries.

In thorek's army they are better but i think their missile projectile (and/or explosion) does not one shot entities (elite units of infantry /cavalry) , so in terms of dps they are weaker then flame cannons (but they have way more range so......)

Theres a mod called Hold Position that keeps your units from moving but allows them to pivot to keep their target in range. Makes things easier when camping.

in my last grombrindal campaign every army after the first was general + 3 heroes (as soon as i got them), 8 guns 4 artillery and 4 flamethrowers not doomstacks, they did strugle agaist more than two armies, but they worked pretty well and were easy to build and replenish with experienced troops

Yeah balanced armies are usually best. My armies usually consist of 4-7 artillery, 3-4 ironbreakers, an Engineer couple of Thanes, 1-2 Irondrakes, 2-3 torpedos or giant slayers - sometimes both, and fill in the rest with whatever else for flavor - maybe more thanes or ironbreakers, gyrobombers. My Grombrindal army however only consists of 1 unit of irondrakes and 2 engineers and that can beat 3 armies easy.

I'd argue maybe an engineer more could help this. The additional ammo and missile strengh could help against single entity units. I'm once again trying to build a gyrocopter/bomber build and it seems to work somewhat fine. I use 5 engineers for the ammo and missile strengh and one lord where I put a stalking armor on him. But in my normal armies I've really fallen in love with miners (not minors) or Ironbreakers, their blast charges are so satisfying, especially since they practically nuke a unit out of existence.

The ammo, speed and missels increase does stack. So yea one eng would help, even better would be wulfhart special hero that have the old eng skills

In my Woodelf campaign, I noticed that the archers did not always shoot even when the enemy was in range and they had fire at will. I had to order them to shoot.

I’ve also found that if you do target with artillery , they have a tendency to restart their firing animations even if they don’t physically need to move to switch targets

I actually used a similar army to fight lategame elite khorne armies and it worked great tbh. I had like 7 or more cannons in there and simply thunderers + heroes as frontline. The khorne demons and soul grinders didnt stand a chance against my midgame army XD

I tried this once and I took flamecannons because you simply do not have the room to have a full army of just Organ guns. Organ guns are miles better then the Flame Cannon in every way. But flamecannons can be used in an arch which gives them a distinct advantage. I would have personally had 2 engineers myself though.

I've noticed the AI takes a while to react to magic before charging, if they're on the defence. Cast a spell, triple-speed, they'll come at you, just nowhere near as quick as in TWWH2.

I agree that maybe swap a thane for an extra engineer. But I’d also swap a flame cannon for an extra runesmith, of possibly have a tough Runelord for general, with gear to get his armor to 200, and ofc the tankard, so he’s immune to non-AP-damage. Just for the extra slows, and explosions.

Dawi arty’ is some of the funnest units to use imo but it takes forever to get there, also I feel the dwarves should have a 50% spell resist because in the lore they’re incredibly resistant to it. 50% seems like a lore friendly and balanced changed to gameplay

Pretty sure I have the click to attack with ranged vs leave to automatically fire thing with ranged figured out. When you click, your entire unit won't fire till it has line of sight on all (at ground level, not their missile arc) of their models in their unit. Why even ranged units with high arcs on their missiles or shooting at flying units (who actually seem to be treated as ground for LoS) have issues where they shouldn't. If you leave them to auto fire, any of your models with line of sight will fire on anything in range. (Still some issues with flyers here)

Gotta ask for the subs, just the way it goes. Should keep up the captions every so often, it's great to take the piss and did create a bit of a buzz thread. It's funny how much they get mad at optimal gameplay on there, you don't use glitches and this kind of skill is applauded in literally every other gaming community.

Hey, Bellend! 😄 I do miss when you graded the 'doomstags'. Don't get me wrong, the current system is Ok as you go through each item with a thorough analysis, but a final grade would be great, I think. This one, for example, would get an 8/10, for me.

The new system is better, I think. If most of them fall in the 8-10 range, it really doesn't make much sense to have a scale from 0 to 10 at all.

This should not deserve an 8 rating. Can get destroyed by cavalry army and would absolutely hate fast moving single entity units like heroes lords or monsters getting on the artillery as the dwarves can't move their lords and heroes quickly to counter.

6/10 at best, it's weak to so many things, bad terrain, any army with a few fast units / flyers, any army with summons, it takes a lot of micro to use properly, litterally one unit going through the heroes can take care of half your firepower... It's fun but it's only winning because the ai is dumb as hell

I saw that. I found it odd that captions were on, as I did not turn them on. And I had to rewatch the intro to be sure that I read what I thought I read. Then I saw a slew of captioning errors, so I just turned it off. I was not getting that it was a joke. And I can only subscribe one time. I will try arder to subscribe more though.

Cannons are good at dealing the initial damage to a healthy army. But isn't very good at cleaning up a unit that is almost routing. This is why I think that having 5 or 6 gunners instead of artillery would have done wonders there. But that would be just a regular stack a I guess

AI is much more resistant to charging you even if provoked if it has reinforcements coming. If you start killing a serious number of entities it will though.
