Don Helms may well be the best steel man there ever was, or ever will be. I regret I have never had the opportunity to see, and meet him. This is absolutely priceless!

In 1981 I called Acuff Rose and was able to get Don Helms on the phone, and he was a total gentleman, we spoke for over an hour, and he said I could call anytime. I really.. for my money, I prefer the high lonesome sound of the console steel over a pedal steel.

Connor Arroyo You can't beat success. Don Helms created an unmistakable sound with that console steel that can be recognized anywhere, anytime, by almost anybody. Fancier and more expensive instruments have been, and are being built, but the key ingredient is the talent of the person playing it.

I don't even play, but the talent and history in this room is jaw dropping. What an absolute honor to have these legends together and sharing with us. It's really moving.

This was a true privilege to watch and hear Don's "bit of history" on this segment. Thank you for making the effort to round all these gentlemen up for this video. I second the "sends goosebumbs down my back" comments!

Some people don’t get this, but there’s a lot of people who don’t seem to get much, these days? There’s a lot of musicianship and talent here, all in one place. Wish I’d been there just to sit, watch and listen. Brilliant stuff.

Don was my friend, and I had the honor of being the last to tour with him. He is truly missed. Andy Norman

I agree. Don's history on the Gibson Concert Grand was fantastic. Just the brief snippets of the Hank Williams songs were like watching history come to life. Thanks
