19:09 irony for me is that I had a 1999 V8 Taurus SHO that had a slashed gas tank when I hit metal scrap that fell off a truck in front of me at 70 MPH. I was on my way to have the cams welded to avoid the known issue when this occurred. I JB Weld the gas tank at the gas station. That temporary fix turned out to be a permanent fix. LONG LIVE JB WELD! The car lasted until 2015. It went to over 180K with no major mechanical problems. I had sold it to my much younger brother who owned it for years until his girlfriend wrecked it.

Based on previous SHO experience with this generation, I think you have a high pressure fuel issue. Last one I had, had a failed high pressure fuel pump that killed the fuel injectors. It will be fine at higher rpm but will be very sluggish from a dig. You may want to consider the replacement of the HPFP and injectors. Should help the sluggishness off the line. The pump is pretty easy to replace and injectors arent too bad. I could help you out with it if needed. I work in the area. (I was a master certified ford mechanic for 10 years)
@theemasher777
@theemasher777 Ай бұрын
I am certainly not a technician but working in parts for Ford the last 6 years of my life you see some trends in this issue. The high pressure pump and injectors even for trucks with the 5.0 and 3.5 are common items to check when having a long crank or fuel pressure issue. Sometimes it's just the driver module. Definitely worth a look for a car with 150k miles.

SPOS is not new, back in the day here in the UK the same malady was called 'Escortitis', the symptoms were an incessant urge to modify the engine and update the suspension, many sufferers lost all their money when the illness struck hard and they often suffered from divorce. The sickness is highly contagious and those looking to avoid infection should watch out for one of the main indicators that infected folk are near by looking out for black tyre marks on the road and the roaring of a small engine being revved hard, The best medical advice is to get out of the infection area as soon as possible to avoid transmission, if an infected car unexpectedly comes into sight displaying indications that the driver is infected (such as wide wheels, modified bodywork, loud exhaust etc) the advice is to close ones eyes and put fingers in ones ears and wait quietly for the danger to pass..

I had a 2015 PP SHO before I got my E55, it was full bolt on, down pipes and a 3bar tune from Livernois that was good to about 450hp AWD. It was SCARY FAST and ate up highway at an alarming rate and still got 24+mpg. I only got rid of it because the warranty ended and it started to show signs of the water pump/ timing chain issue yours already had repaired. It was black on black, lowered with bronze TSW wheels and with the Borla exhaust, you could tell it wasn’t your average Taurus. Even the police usually just gave me thumbs up, even if I was going over the limit and a couple I got to know in my area said they wished their cruisers looked that good. It handled pretty well for a big girl but the couches you sit on limit your cornering ability unless you brace yourself on the door, lol. I just paid off the E55 and she needs some suspension work so it will stop eating the inside of the rear tires and I need to do the rest of the mods I have sitting in a closet so it’s coming off of the road for the summer. I’m going next week to visit my parents for Mother’s Day and picking up my 2001 E430 that’s been sitting for 3 months and driving it 1500 miles back across the country back home. I’m doing my own LegitRoadKill trip! Wish me luck! 😂

Ford's internal water pump design on these is horrible along with any other manufacturers who decide an internal water pump is the answer. Ffs do a remote pump and be done with it manufacturers! I've got a Gen 5 Taurus with the 3.5 and the same BS internal water pump so I'm using a digital coolant gauge to monitor temps because that weep hole doesn't always tell you when there's an issue. It's my work car so if it dies I'll sell it for whatever I get for it and find something that doesn't suck as horribly. It's a limited awd too. Also I would never touch an ecoboost Taurus. If people who own them like them, more power to them. It's got miniscule interior space for the boat of a car external dimension wise and after owning 9 different Fords including my current work car, I'm done with em. I'll stick with Japanese cars, older muscle cars, etc. Nothing new by any American manufacturers.

Nice finally seeing someone actually work on these PTUs. I can’t tell you the countless of times I’ve seen where a thick black metallic paste just comes out of it. You tell the customer they should at least do a fluid change but they don’t care.
@jaymorrison2419
@jaymorrison2419 Ай бұрын
The problem is two fold, and fords fault. The PTU fluid is classified as 'Lifetime' which means there is NO normal maintenance schedule for it, which also means you dont get a reminder from your normal care places. It also means a dealer wont do it even if you ask. AND, if you have the non-performance package version (the PP has a cooler line going to the radiator, a design is shares with the PPV), there isn't a drain on the PTU, so the only way to flush it is to vacuum extract, so its not even something you can easily do at home.

Out of all the channels I watch, I like the way you integrate your sponsors into your videos. Most people have terrible transitions or splice some ad that doesn't make sense in. At least you show the product while you are in the process of filming your current vid.

While at my dealer, who I do not use for maintenance, I asked about the maintenance interval on my transmission and Supercharger… was told lifetime. I then asked why other manufactures have mile intervals on the exact same parts - they doubled down and told me “lifetime”. So frustrating. Don’t worry - did EVERYTHING at 42,000 miles - even when the previous owner did it at the dealer. Gives me peace of mind knowing the definitive date and miles of the service plus using product brands I trust.

Here in NC, there are approximately 60 Ford Taurus SHO models for sale. I started looking to purchase one a couple of months ago then earlier this week, I lost my job!! At 52 yrs old, I know it's not the end of the world because I've been through this before, albeit 20 yrs ago, I'll somehow make it. No job, no car (driving my dad's 04 Ford Explorer) to and fro my old job. Anywho, great video!!

The PTU fails mostly because of galling of the fluid. That causes bearing failure. The heat from the downpipes literally cooks the fluid. Leaks don't help either. Also the ptu holds 18 Oz of fluid. The best fluids we have found have been the Amsoil and the Redline Lightweight Shockproof.

Weather is nice so my daily is my 59 Studebaker Lark IV. Mechanically, it's a new car so I get the 50's style, but with 90's tech drivetrain/running gear. 2JZ-GE freshly built, 5-speed, 4-wheel discs, Corvette rack&pinion, fresh stock suspension with Koni's and big sways, Buick Century bench seats and a nice radio. Reliable, sounds great, handles better than you'd think, 30mpg and all the confused looks!

Couple great items to add as far as upgrades goes: EPP Air Intake is a well worthy upgrade as it separates the piping to the two turbos which will result in less waste gate duty cycles and sound cool. EPP hot pipes: as you increase boost the stock hot pipes can result in boost leaks (especially the noise maker) and you can order them in any color and being aluminum might help with some heat dissipation XDI high pressure fuel pump And when 400 AWHP gets boring Gearheads gen 3 turbo upgrade will blow you away.

I owned 2 SHOs in the 90s (91 and 98) and loved them both. I was searching for a newer one a few years ago but just didn't find "the one". Now I'm in a SUV but still miss having a car and an AWD SHO would be great. I like what you've done with yours.

My daily is a 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro4X with 25K miles. It’s got plenty of power, drives/handles well, has all the tech I need, and the seats are very comfortable! I bought it because of the 3.8 n/a motor (no turbos), hydraulic steering (I like a heavier feel), and it was the only midsize truck that I like the design of.

Hey Alex. I daily drive a 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL550 4matic, 132,000 miles. I never thought I'd own a Mercedes but since watching you and all of your Mercedes videos, you gave me the courage to get one. Before this I had a 2013 BMW X5 xdrive 50i which you know the issues they were plagued with. Not that Mercedes are worry-free. But watching your videos literally made me more comfortable purchasing my first Mercedes. And it's an awesome machine. So thanks and I look forward to your videos every weekend.

You ever thought about doing a diesel truck build. I think like 07 and blow is all pre DEF fluid and emissions and stuff. Trying to pick up clean pre-mission diesels can be someone expensive with today's market especially low mileage. But I'm sure you're like me not scared of something with a miles if it's rust free and everything seems to check out okay.
