a few things I leanred from Alex watching this, 1.Keep a child like enthusiasm for the cars or things you love. 2.Never give up. 3.Even though you get what you want in life, it doesnt mean it will always be perfect. 4. Small things can lead to big problems. 5. Always think a little out the box. 6. Experience helps, some mechanics would have never thought of, or checked that oilpump bypass valve.

Oil is practically incompressible, so essentially you had an unregulated hydraulic pump. The answer to, "How high will it go?" is: until something breaks. I highly suspect oil filters are specifically engineered to fail before something more expensive fails. Your video captures the essence of, "real mechanic stuff!" Love it!

I was working on my 1989 Ford Falcon ((Australia) in my garage - then a friend of my housemate came in and started talking about what I was doing I didn’t like the guy. Then I heard a metallic sound where he was standing and he walked off I didn’t know at the time but he’d either mistakenly or on purpose knocked a large butterfly screw into my intake manifold Later that day I went for a drive and the car on a hard turn started making a horrible sound The butterfly screw had entered the intake port, then into the cylinder onto the piston - it smashed all the valves and cost me 6 weeks wages to fix I knew he’d caused it so when we were having a party during a huge storm I grabbed his car keys and went outside and opened all of his windows and his sunroof It rained all night and when he came out in the morning he was shocked - puddles in the floor of his car Paybacks a bitch 😂

The 4v stroker I just built and dropped on my channel has boundary opg’s and a 8qt pan. On my gauge it stars at 95psi cold then goes down to 25psi when at temp. What you’re seeing there is perfect. After building and working on hundreds of mod engines I’ve never seen a stuck pressure release. Great diagnostic skills buddy 💪.

Something similar some years ago way out in the country in the middle of the night. The engine started to sound labored and I noticed the oil gauge was way beyond max of 100. A quick shutdown and after a pause a tentative restart and it was back to normal. A cautious long drive home and, the next morning found signs of a previously stuck oil relief valve complete with a tiny bit of grit. Be pleased it happened to you in the workshop and not on a dark country road.

As a side note, that slick funnel you're using to fill the cooling system does not work at high altitude! At sea level water boils at 212 deg. while a t-stat usually opens around 195-205 deg. so any air is simply purged. But at say, 7,000-7500 ft., water boils around 198 deg. So it can boil before the t-stat opens. Believe me, it makes a big mess!

Sooo lucky, sounds like it could have been soo much worse. The rocker fell off when it did and didn't crush the alien clip and scrape up the walls. Then the Oil shoots up(and all over the place) and you have the other engine and able to salvage the spring and bypass from it. Also, replaced the computer so this video didn't have you opening up the transmission as you got it to shift out of first and second and into third. Let's hope your luck holds out and maybe recalibration with new tune will allow it to shift into fourth. Love watching you resolve issue after issue.

In HS I was in auto shop replacing a clamp on a vacuum line on my ‘86 GT. A classmate “helped” me remove it when I wasn’t around and dropped it in the intake. I replaced the clamp never knowing what happened to the old one. When I started my car it went through the valves and into a cylinder. I had one round score mark and a bunch of crescent scars on top of the piston and all over the combustion chamber on the head. This totally brought back memories….
@DannysGarage
@DannysGarage 5 ай бұрын
I can totally relate- I bought a 98 BMW 540i that ran like crap, and after fixing a million vacuum leaks I noticed it still had a hard misfire that didn't move no matter what I moved (ignition coil, plug, injector, etc). I pulled the intake and sure enough, there was a bolt stuck in the intake valve. I was able to get the bolt out and though it had done some damage, it still sealed well enough that it made the engine run on all 8. Unfortunately this is what happens when people pull the intake manifolds and aren't careful. On the BMW V8's you have to undo the injector electrical connector clips, and they like to fly around everywhere, so if you're not careful to magnet all 8 clips out, it's incredibly easy to drop one in.

I love how you pushed that cleaner stuff and said something about the chemicals of brake cleaner. Then like a real car guy you proceed to spray the bajesus out of the intake, makes me proud 👏 🥹

Old school way to get a close idea of rear gear was to spin driveshaft and count how many revolutions it took to spin the rear tire/ lugs one complete revolution or vice versa.

Hi Alex what a roller coaster. So glad that clip didn't destroy your engine and great to see you get some good luck.

I love your channel, I have learned a ton about caring for cars, hell I bought my beloved cl550 because of this channel. But you have absolutely cured me of my desire to buy old cheap abandoned bucketlist cars. I used to live on marketplace shopping for "gems". I'm scared to death of it now.

Your determination to get a result from a troublesome engine is inspiring! Very impressive diagnosis too. Even when you feel youre being Punk'd and get crazy faults!! Always look forward to your vids

Love your channel been watching it awhile. Most other channels I try to watch come off as youtubers and not car guys. You are a true car guy man. I look forward to a new video by you more than any other channel on KZfaq.
