Love Odin and Diablo (Mask Maker and Skull Grinder). A pity with the lack of friction in Diablo's gimmick, especially since, I believe, that is the first time that gear system hasn't "held up".

This set looks FANTASTIC! To me it DEFINATLEY feels like Lego looked back at some of their old villains, and made a villain that looks like true Bionicle, using CCBS! Also, when I get this, I am definatley putting the mask of creation onto Ekimu! :D

Skull Grinder's head + mask reminds me of a Deathclaw's head! Awesome review as always, Jang.

I love Skull Grinder's look. Seeing his empty frame, imagining all the bony bits filled out when he was alive or whatever, makes it clear what a freakin' bruiser he is.

The more and more I look at the new sets, the more impressed I get, especially with these guys. with all the exposed gears and stuff, it legitimately looks like an out of repair machine, and the new stylized torso armor (the clear under piece) is a breath of fresh air CCBS as a whole desperately needed. They just need to do more of that, maybe throw in some more construction options onto the add on armor bits, and stylize the chest armor, as apposed to the prints.

I like these villains' skeletal motif, but on the other hand, I miss the likes of the beetle-like Bohrok and the reptilian Rahkshi as their designs were very distinctly different from the Toa.

I'm definitely getting this set, and this entire wave of G2 Bionicle sets because the villans look really good. And Ekimu and the mask of Creation are both nice touches to this set. :D

This set is the definition of "Good vs Evil" I'm so going to first buy this set.

That tip for improving the mask of creation's stand is really useful! It's a small thing, but it greatly improves their display quality.

I feel like I'm just lucky I've finally collected all the sets from this wave. There are a lot of people out there that are grateful just to have them and are too happy about it to list what they like and don't like, just because of how much the sets cost over all. Average/middle class people probably know what I'm talking about

What's odd is the design of Skull Grinder looks like it could accommodate two extra friction gears in each arm. Well, I'm sure at least sapping the extra 8 parts off other sets or bricklink wouldn't be too terribly hard. The magic of lego shines through.

what i like about these new villians is the fact that they aren't clone sets like the vahki or the piraka were they were slight variations of each other, but now each have there own action and build.

You seriously have the best "building sequences" They are oddly satisfying!

Great review, jang. This set is definitely the first set that I'm gonna get out of Bionicle summer wave of sets.

I like how you can still see the actuators in skull grinder's mask, show that the bionicle spirit is still string.

This set is a must have for me. Ekimu, the Mask Maker, and his burial mask, plus the leader of the Skull army, in all his evil glory as well, not forgetting the mythical, magical Mask of Creation. Like that Ekimu's limbs are all translucent. It's like power is surging through his being, and I like it. The shoulder-pads make him look regal, especially coupled with the Mask of Creation. And that hammer! That is so cool. Wonder if Makuta will get his hammer if and when a set form of him is released? All that trans purple.. (*drools*) I didn't notice how Terminator-like Skull Grinder's mask is.. now I can't unsee it. It's awesome. Like the horns, like the trans red, and that wicked new armor, now that one can see it up close. Kind of wish his feet had glowing red toes, but that's just me. Skull pulls off the skeleton look well while retaining a bit of bulk, and I like that a lot. The wheel-things on his shoulders are an interesting look. And the stand is just a stand, but I suppose we won't be paying attention to that as we make our forger of Masks of Power face off against the being who intends to use his mask for evil. Nah, we'll be focused on the action, swinging their arms about and shooting (and loosing) studs about. Just can't wait for them to hit shelves. Thanks for the review as always, Jang. :) By the way, is it possible to move the third gear on Ekimu's hammer-arm to Skull Grinders, just for that bit of friction? Just curious.

I made a moc version of Kulta. I put friction gears on the ball and 2 below on each arm and hidden in his gearbox

I agree that the mechanism and idea for the hammer as a shooter is very clever. Also, it seems that the Skull Scorpio may be better used for the combination model.

I'm pretty sure they're using the mold marks on the masks as an intentional design element, as they're present in all skull masks so far plus Ekimu's, so I guess it gives them some sort of unit, as if coming from the same higher origin. I personally like it, feels like a cool ''third eye'' sort of mystical thing, and I didn't even realised they were byproducts of the molding process at first.

For some reason, while I completely agree with JANGBRiCKS on the issue that the first wave of Bionicle 2015 needed more villains (the Skull Spiders were pathetic and LoSS wasn't too great either), I do feel that it was the designers paying tribute to the original Bionicle, which didn't start releasing villains in tandem with heroes until 2008. It was usually villains first and heroes later in the US (Barraki were winter 2006/spring '07, Mahri came in the fall/summer of '07). This is probably the only set I'm getting out of the summer Bionicle wave - the rest aren't as appealing.

This sets really good actually, I bought it on my vacation to London but skullgrinder's arms are a little loose with the big staff thing.

I got this and eneded up replacing the gear box in Ekimu. As much as I like these gear boxes this one just kept getting in the way of the shoulders and the head for me so I went and built a new connection using the instructions for the Protector of fire's shoulders.

"You can kinda see that as being an intentional feature even though it isn't." That made me laugh. As far as the gold color, LEGO used to release shiny chromed pieces (not the same as the metallic, paint coated kind that occasionally shows up in today's sets) in fairly inexpensive sets. This molded gold color is definitely cheaper, but I think that bringing back that shinier, prettier, and superior chrome, would add a lot to many sets (These masks of course but also the silver engine bits on the Ferrari 440 or the lightsaber hilts on SW sets).
