Today we're looking at Nuparu's Boxor, a Bionicle set released back in 2002! It's the first and only boxed set to include a Tohunga character, and has some disturbing lore surrounding it... #bionicle #lego #review

I did not know seeing Nuparu Mahri sitting inside a Boxor was a thing I needed to see until I saw it. Thank you, that was amazing.

I think that the Bohrok parts changed their color due to the Bohrok losing its elemental power.

this was my first set ever, great to see you covering it! it's still on my shelf and its rubber bands are somehow still alive
@brickthumb Жыл бұрын
Nice! Glad your rubber bands are alive. Some of mine have become a bit saggy, and the Turaga ones especially seem to be a different kind of rubber that just doesnt last :(

I was once part of an RP scene where the person playing Nuparu explained the Matoran arm on the back of the mech, and Nuparu's own weirdness with his arms, by saying that Nuparu used _his own left arm_ as a structural support and cobbled together a slightly janky prosthesis from spare parts to replace it. I ended up giving my Toa Nuparu MOC a mismatched left arm because of it. I need to rebuild that guy at some point, scrapped him for parts a bit ago.

Haha, I can't believe I've never made that connection before. That's an amazing theory!

Silver boxor was very cool to see, but what if the other matoran built their own different colored/elemental boxor-like mechs based off the other 5 bohrok breeds? Would be very interested to see you tackle a video like that some day. Maybe the boxor “hooks” would differ between builds. Keep it up. 🤙🏼

I love these kind of bionicle sets that have really neat technic designs with moving parts. Keep up the great vids!

Yeah, the engineering on some of the early sets is really outstanding! I feel some of the clever design elements were sadly lost on later sets. Thanks for watching :)

I’ve put it together. He welded and cut apart pieces from the gahlok to make Gali hooks and he threw his disk at another matoran to get that extra arm piece.

I’m subscribing for all your content mate, not just Bionicle ;) I love how you casually show a silver Boxor and big Nupaaru sitting in his old invention xD

Thanks for watching ;) I wonder how the Barakki would react if Mahri Nuparu just rocked up in the boxor? Lol.

One of my favorite bionicle sets! Another lego set that has a similar color scheme from around the same time is the Kek Powerizer from Galidor. I always imagined that the alternate builds was used for swamp traversal. Not sure why Nuparu had 2 disc throwing arms, I suppose he was just "built differently". Although he ended up getting a very powerful boxing arm, 2 in fact, with his invention!
@brickthumb Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, I forgot about Galidor! Yeah, the Kek Powerizer has a very similar color scheme. What a strange series that was...

My personal theory on the color change is that boric corpse wood eventually lose its color and turn into a husk

Oddly enough, the black Tohunga punching arms appeared in the Technic Super Battle Droid (8012) roughly a month before this was released, and along with the orange Bohrok head beams, also appeared in a "Parts tub" (8713) from 2005. Aside from the Exo-Toa, the old dark gray "Voodoo Hooks" from Gali first appeared in a "Drome Racers" set (8468) five months before and appeared in another set from that theme (8371) in early 2003. This was also the final standard set to have Technic 3x3 lever and cross block in orange.

Ah, the Technic super Battle Droid...I got really excited when I found it has the Toa foot in metallic blue, thinking I could make a cool metallic blue Toa. Alas...very few other parts exist in that colour, and most come from that one set!
@colinroberts2060 Жыл бұрын
@@brickthumb Metallic sand blue is a fairly rare color, with only 26 elements being produced in it in total. Many of them are Technic parts-which were all exclusive to the Super Battle Droid (8012), though a minifigure of one appeared in the first version of the Republic Gunship (7163) released concurrently. These would have been the only places where parts in that color appeared, but one of the constraction-scale figures from the Knights' Kingdom II theme (8794) had armor and a sword in that color, and five other sets (8778, 8780, 8781, 8799 and 8801) from that theme also had a minifigure-scale sword in that color.

I remember that when I searched "Boxer" on Google, the results I got were the dog called "Boxer". It is hard to believe that the Matoran included in this set became a Toa in later years.

Since the Bohrok are themselves basically an exosuit for the Krana I don't think there is quite the same moral quandary.
@evgenyransky3545 Жыл бұрын
This is true, except for the fact that the Borak exosuit are actually the transformed bodies of dead AV Matoran. I love this creepy moments from Bionicle lore

@@evgenyransky3545 I just assumed the mechanical parts of their body are recycled. No different than how we used to use mammoth bone and skin to make huts. Or alters of human bone.
