Why? The history of the actual train is far more interesting. Besides, they included a ton of travellers. You can still do your whole reenact thing.

I am not a train fan and I like this build alot. I think for $300 this is absurd, I can definitely see this set getting the old "hulkbuster, black panther and fooseball table" treatment and being on sale shortly. Feels like lego may finally be getting the hint that the price elasticity is not what they thought.

It looks like they set the price that included power up functions, yet when they decided they can't make it work and removed it, they still keep the price.

This might be true. Remember the foosball table mess. The price was set for it to be an actual foosball table, but it wasn't structurally sound. It was easier for them to include a massive amount of useless figure pieces than to just change the price.

Two of the destination names for the printed pieces are spelt incorrectly. "Munchen" should be "München" and "Bucaresti" should be "București", which is a pretty big deal for a model which is literally based on a real life service and is intentionally using the native spelling of the destinations. Between that and the issue with the sticker sheet colouring, it's screams of a lack of quality assurance which is surprising.

2:18 Bruh, WTF is "BUCARESTI". The city is called "Bucharest" in English and "Bucuresti" in Romanian. It's also written as "Bucuresti" on the real life train.

Correct, București and München are the correct spellings. How could they mess this up, especially coming from a European company?!?! I was excited to see the capital city for my wife’s country of origin but then they go on to mess up two other major European cities. Just unacceptable. 😡 All the more reason not to buy it.

Minor correction. The VSOE prices; that's GBP, British Pounds. £58,000 is nearly 67,000 Euros! Totally agree with pretty much everything you said about the set. Certainly the price point! Considering the Emerald Night was only £70 and only has about half the piece count and could be powered! A more acurate comparison to a set today is probably the Natural History Museum. Whilst not a train, it's the same price but has over a 4000 piece count! So yeah, find the Orient Express to be big rip off tbh. Don't think they're going to sell many, I don't think it'll be around too long either

The original Orient Express is dark blue and since its a licenced product they had no other option then giving it its original color.

The Belmond company who owns the Orient Express charter has over 7 different locomotives and some of them come in all flavors like Dark Green, Dark Blue, Black and even Ebony White so....

As a train fan, I’m happy we got something other than Hogwarts and more kid-oriented train sets…. But it absolutely should have come powered up for that price or sell the cars individually at maybe $60 a piece. I’ll still buy it and do my own modifications but will probably wait for a discount

This is on of the worst cases of Lego consumers being sold out to corporate interests by the marketing divisions of Lego and a modern luxury train company in a partnership nobody needed for a more than century-old train. Add to that lazy mistakes like two typos (București and München), several other blunders like a loco that does not fit at all, no iconic logo and writing on the cars, wrong colors for the staff minifigs and the fact that this set does not know what it is supposed to be (a fictional toy train playset for display for 300$/€??) - it just makes one angry. Then you get even angrier when you see how far the competition has left Lego behind (e.g. Mould King 12025).

At first glance without knowing about the price or history of the set it looks very cool. Generally speaking I would love to display it. However when you bring in the very high price and the fact that power functions isn't even included for that high of a price.... its a hard pass. LEGO has been getting way to pricey over the years and as an avid fan from a young age I can say I'm starting to get tired of LEGOs behavior towards the consumer

Oh the base is floppy. Thanks for showing that in your review! Lego could have just slapped some standard Lego tracks to be reused in train layouts instead and that would at least be a plus.

I've always liked the crocodile train track the most. First of all, I live the sticker telling facts about the text. I live those platters in any Lego set like the Back To The Future car. Second of all, its accualy sturdy!

The wrong one is a bright yellow/orange color for certain stickers, where as the correct one is a reflective gold matching the lettering printed on the bricks.

Honestly, I quite like the set. Is it a little pricey? Yeah, a little, but it's an impressive set for what it is. Yes, it's not motorized, but in all honesty that's not an issue. I don't seem to recall ever hearing Lego saying that it can't be motorized because it's too heavy or because they couldn't figure it out. I've read a few comments in other review videos that are more hostile towards Lego to say the least, and I think those commenters are just being childish. For what it's worth, I'd still buy this set. I want one. It's not everyday we get a new Lego train set that isn't a modern high speed train, generic cargo train, or yet another Hogwarts Express. If you have problems with this set, well, that's fine. Just do us all a favor and let the rest of us enjoy it!

Disappointed in the price, and it not being motorized with offical lego train. But I'll admit, I still LOVE the look of this train. I love steam trains, and the dark blue, though not accurate, is my favorite color and looks amazing. I'll probably try to wait for a sale, but I do want to get this set, and hopefully figure out how to motorized it.

As for me, the original LEGO fan creator's color choice has no effect on the train whatsoever. The original color of the train is... Blue. I think it looks phenomenal the way it is

Am i the only one who hopes that lego one day make a imperial flagship but in titanic size. 3 decks with interior like sleeping cabins, cooking room, med room gun deck, admiral room, .... i would pay A LOT to have that.

@@GimbleOnDewit's an Orient Express set. The voted on model focused way too much on the locomotive for a set based on a train famous for its passenger experience. Downsizing the locomotive in favor of a second coach was the right call

@@justinbeath5169this exactly. The Orient Express is the train as a whole, not just the locomotive pulling it. I’d understand people being upset if they made a set called The 20th Century Limited and didn’t have a Dreyfuss Hudson pulling it, since that was the calling card of that particular train. But the OE isn’t that. And even then, this is still one of the nicest track compatible steam locomotives Lego has ever produced….

the best part about this set really are the coaches... the locomotive looks nice but doesn't have motorization in mind (not even a solution from their own house 🤦‍♂) and has quality issues that affect it's ability to run smoothly on tracks according to some reviewers... the tracks are just bs, as you mentioned no stability in the build and I've seen vintage rail pieces that seem to be in better shape than these, srsly why are they bending upwards like that, it's so ugly...

Honestly, I’m looking forward to picking this set up once I have the budget for it. I picked up the Crocodile Locomotive a few years ago before it retired and I’d love for LEGO to continue making trains like it and this Orient Express going forward.

Totally agree. And you haven't even mentioned that the printed parts are misspelled or askew. Also - and unlike the Lego designers' claims - the set can be and should have been motorized. What a let down. Lego? 🤪🤮💩👎!

Guys this thing is awesome. Is $250 maybe a more realistic price? Yeah probably. But man this thing is really big, detailed, and gorgeous. I LOVE it. Idk if he just didn’t build the base well, but I have had no issues with it. This review missed the mark ngl. I don’t agree with the analysis at all.

Im getting this set day one. The stickers are unfortunate but i dont actually see a difference, if you can tell me it might influence my decision. Idc about the colors or differences between this and the fan model. Im also gonna buy extra track :)

The set should have been $250 at most It should be possible to motorize the train with lego functions, not third party ones. I'm sure fans will figure out how to motorize it

This set is one of the biggest disappointments in lego history. 300 dollars for less than 3000 pieces and a locomotive that looks like a 3 year old put together. Such a let down

I think you nailed it. This is generally a very good train set hampered only by the unreinforced display track and the overly high price. Let's suppose if they used Technic rods and pins to properly strengthen it and give it a somewhat lower price (I would accept a higher selling price than what it should be if they left the track as is) this would seem all fine for most train fans.

Imagine getting this instead of feeding the family... 300 dollars goes a long way. I mean, it is super average. The locomotive is impotent. Only the design of the carriages and aesthetics of Orient Express keep it on somewhat fancy level. Otherwise it's 125 kids stuff with stickers.

As a German, spelling München without the Umlaut is very offensive. I will skip this set out of principle. And not-motorized is a crime against Lego Train fans. It's an insult to charge so much for this. Thanks for the detailed review.

The quality control on this set is a huge disappointment for the cost. The sticker sheet misprint, misspelling of city names, and the bend on the included track pieces are all by themselves not acceptable for any Lego set across any price in terms of quality control.

Cost of the set adds up: lots of prints, new pieces, new recolors of pieces, expensive colors, and the fees for the Orient Express license. Wise to wait for a discount.

It's called a tender, not 'coal cart'. As for the set as a whole, it's very disappointing, regardless of whether you're a serious or casual Lego train fan. The price is crazy, and the spelling mistakes on München and Bucureşti are unforgivable. But my biggest issue with this set is the locomotive; she looks very toy-like compared to the coaches and doesn't appear to be based on any real-life design; go figure.

I’m going to come out and say this set is tryin to be a mission impossible colab. They changed the color scheme to look like the orient express from the movie and it came out the same year as the best mission impossible movie

The engine is a joke. The cars are nice although I am not happy about the incompatible couplers and the dumb typos. But I will never ever spend 300 bucks on two cars. Guys, let's make the wise choice and not buy this set. And next year we'll see massive discounts.
