I've always thought that the Dragon Knights of this line are the successors of the Dark Forest and the Black Knights and Dragon Masters. Slapped together mixes of power hungry evil knights and basically just brigands with helmets and maces. That chess set made an excellent army builder!

Kingdoms was an extremely clever line. The Lions had almost the same logo as the crusaders (but flipped), but had elements of the Royal Knights.. but red instead of blue. They even re-did the carriage set with them. The Dragon faction was a cool combination of dragon masters and the forestmen. I really wish it continued, as it had some sets that were absolute bangers. Mill Village Raid and Joust are some of the best 'not castle' castle sets ever released. Also I think this is the castle sub-theme with the most unique torso prints.

My head-canon is that Kingdoms came after the original Castle theme in their timeline as well, and the Falcon Kingdom is a later form of the Falcon Knights once they gained enough power to be considered a kingdom.

In terms of lore, I had always believed that the Kingdoms line was divided from one of the factions around the time of Yellow Castle (375), as one of the shields has a mix between the colors of the Dragon Knights and the Lion Knights. It always seemed to me that the Dragon Knights wore their natural elements on their sleeves, taking in magic and dragons much more than the civilized Lion Knights, who practiced magic in secret or the royal family exclusively. The Falcon Knight we see in the joust could be the first to break from the Dragon Knights, leading the legion later known as Black Falcons. There's also more about the other Lion Knights' lineages that lead me to believe Kingdoms Lion Knights were some of the earliest.

Lego needs to make more commercials like they used to- kids don't care about fake animations of the sets being built

Wait, I think that the dragon knights had a drought and were all starving, so they at first asked the lion knights for help. The lion knights refused, forcing the dragon knights to invade and raid the lion knights. The reason why dragon knights commonly were unshaved and beaten up-looking was because they were all in poverty. The dragon knights had to draft young men to raid the lion knights for food and money, hence there are no civilians shown in the dragon knight sets

Even though I only had 2 sets from this theme, Outpost Attack & Blacksmith Attack featured at 3:55 I have to admit, the Dragon Knights are definitely my favorite castle faction of all time! While I’m not really into any other castle sets & am more into Ninjago & Space with that AWESOME Galaxy Explorer remake after coming back to Lego this year, I did pick up a few more individual Dragon Knights as well as some modern horses just for the nostalgia.

This was well worth it!!!! Kingdoms has always been one of my favourite themes period. Not just interms of castle but lego as a whole!. The biulds were okay and the three factions were honestly beautiful. Is it wrong of my to prefer the red/white lions rather then the new blue and red? Or shall I be thrown into King James dungeon?:0 The box art is truly breathtaking and really is why best box art lego ever made ( in my opinion at least ) the civilian aspect is something lego did great with this theme! And dark greens,bright reds,shiny silvers and somber torch light really makes me feel like lego put a lot of care with this line up since everything lined up near perfectly!. The jokes in this Tavern talk were very well written and made me chuckle!. And now lore/theory time. The dragon knights were the bad-guys yes, But I believe they were simply trying to be free from the kings rule and took shelter in the old rugged towers that had been left behind,the stone now charred black and the trees no longer able to grow. They capture the princess and in lion shoulder for ransom so they can get what they did not have under the lion kings rule. Gold,Land,and Freedom. The dragon knights did not win the war but did destroy the kings castle with the king on the run along with his last knights ( that takes place in wave two ) the dragon knights though wining do not have the numbers they did before so they now pillage the mill village to make the people fight for them. But the peasants fight back and later the king and his last three men come to their aid and win. The dragon knights lose and the king forms a jousting tournament and promotes the three knights in wave two to the knights from the kingdoms joust. And that is the story of lego kingdoms. This theme was my childhood. I had every set except the village, castle, and jousting arena. Sadly it as all been lost to time but the things I'd do to get some of these sets back :(

The Lego medieval themes I created my own lore where the lions are all one full kingdom, but just different clans and same for the falcons. I made the classic black knights be the elite warriors of the falcon kingdom and the classic crusaders the elite force from the lion kingdom . I then include the dwarves from fantasy era and the trolls as their own, but then also include the dragon masters as the elite force from the dragon kingdom. The fright knights I make to be a distant kingdom that is it's own clan/tribe which are just the enemies of the dragons because of the similar background theme. I don't know that's just my personal lore on the multiple kingdoms also including the Knight's kingdom as well.

My headcanon is that this theme is actually a direct continuation of the Fantasy Era that preceded it and just focuses on two new factions.

FORGOT WHAT I SAID, these factions have really grown on me and it sucks that back in 2010 I was collecting Star Wars instead of these great sets. I'm almost there collecting the entire theme and only have 3 sets to go 6918, 7187 and 7189. Great video Brad

I believe that black falcon is a champion which is why he stands out from the other falcons but still part of that faction

Good video Brad i love your videos and this one of course is a great one i grew up with lego but wasn't into medieval theme but rather the 2015 pirate theme which in kind of sad that i am just now beginning to get some old and new minifgures like a classic 1980 lion knight! i personally enjoyed the green dragon knights even though i only had 1 set that being the prisoner transport but i also have a plan to include the green dragon knights in my army when im able to collect some Lego knights from different places

Just discovered this theme after collecting all vintage castle themes up thru and including Black Knights/Monarchs (and a Dragon Knight or two) and I love it! It hurts me that I was still in my dark age when this came out (oh my wallet is going to hurt!). I did find a complete 7946 (without mini figs) in great condition for $115 but that Joust set!!!! I want it!!!

Man I had 3 of these sets (Plus the 2 polybags); Blacksmith's Attack, King's Carriage Ambush, and the Chess set (as it was on sale atm and a great way to get a bunch of figures) I adored this series, like all medieval themed lego sets in my childhood. Sadly, the gold on the King's sword from the Ambush set faded overtime, as was repainted into the Master Sword during my custom figure era; A real casualty from that era was the Blacksmith, Whom's hood was cut and repainted into Link's hood for a Custom Link character. I still cringe from that decision to this day. Someday, I need to dig out all my old lego from storage and rebuild all the sets I had. I've been really interested in getting back into the LEGO scene, and have been itching to build a set again, but why buy new lego, when I have several large tubs full of pieces? Anyways, Kingdom was a real highlight series from my youth, the other castle series as well, but Kingdoms is higher up on the list just because of the badass Dragon Knights.

Eh as always lego doesn't put to much thoughts into sets every castle that came out never had a throne room PROPER throne room other than king Leo's Castle witch kinda close but still had no back wall nor stairs I loved the mill farm but they never made a farm house for the pesants there was many good ideas they never went through. I miss the old 1980's and up

No, Lego Kingdoms was perfect

Kingdoms was a failure because the seige weapons were the worst ever made. I was able to get 3 castles for like 60% off. While the minifigs were awesome I think it was a money loser for lego

This theme was lame and really didn't go anywhere at least the Lion knights matched up colors similar to the mid 90's which I can work with. The Dragon knights on the hand were a huge disappointment with no dragons or anything resembling from the mid 90's. Bu the year after was still a somewhat strange but a improvement. Also too bad I missed out on 7189 cause so expensive.

Back when I had the jousting set, I used to make believe he was a rogue falcon on the run, either he entered the jousting match knowing marrying into the royal family would lead to better protection or he is simply passing by and lego never gave him his own side story in the theme
