Man, I wish LEGO would commit to fully resurrecting the Lord of the Rings theme. This set and the Rivendell one from last year just remind me how truly awesome those old sets were, and I'd love to see more.

Funny enough, the spear was first introduced the the black color. Wayyyy back in the 80s or 90s

I recently ordered both this set and the Rivendell one. Really hoping for a Minas Tirith, Minas Morgul, Orthanc or Helms Deep set soon. Also hope they will do diorama sets, like the SW ones (Mithrandir vs Durin's Bane, Frodo casting the ring into Mt. Doom, the scene where the hobbits first encounter the Nazgûl, etc!).

Loved the review! To me the brown usage at the bottom of the base was used to depict the glow of the lava which is really really awesome use of color/gradient in my opinion

Finally, a true fan reviewing this set. What a relief!

One small correction: the spears and blade pieces have been in black quite a few times. While I'm uncertain about the blades creating the rib like design, the spear piece is actually very easy to get in black. I'm pretty sure black has been one of its original colors. And the dark orange and browns are not to break up the black, but rather give this illusion of the lava moat around Barad-Dûr and other lighting in the Dark Tower glowing, which was very well done for the peak of Barad-Dûr to give the illusion and feel of the Eye of Sauron glowing. My only complaint about the set is the incorrect coloration of the bits of the land and moutain Barad-Dûr was built upon, the set using dark orange, nougat, dark tan, and the bluish grays, while in the films, Mordor is an ashey gray near the Black Gate, while the further from the gate you go, it becomes more and more of a deep dark brown, especially near Mount Doom, which I feel could've easily given the set even more of a dark and evil feel, since Barad-Dûr does mean Dark Tower, and Mordor isn't exactly the most lively place, full of Orcs, one living man (Mouth of Sauron), 9 men neither living nor dead (the Nazgûl and the Witch-King of Angmar), and a giant tower with a big ol lidless flaming eye acting like a glorified watch tower (Barad-Dûr and the Eye of Sauron). Still, this set is amazing, and I will definitely be getting it.

Day 1. Gotta have the GWP. Fingers crossed Lego will do a second release of the GWP during Black Friday and make it available for either Rivendell or Barad-Dûr. (I can dream)

As a Individual who plans on purchasing this set on June 1st I do wish LEGO would sell the Fell Beast GWP as a $5 polybag. Not only to have multiples but what my intention is to surround Barad-Dûr set with the Beasts surrounding the Tower. Unfortunately knowing GWP's go for alot in the aftermarket I guess one will do amazing set for 10 minifigures plus a skeleton technically 11. In my book I count the skelly as a minifigure the only flaw I see is Frodo and Sam not having their capes but really that's the only thing that disturbs me. The build is sturdy and finally paper bags no annoying loud plastic ones which is a relief I can't wait to purchase this set along Fell Beast ❤

I hope that Lego releases a small version of barad dur.. at the beginning I did want rivendell and this one but I want other legos and other stuff to collect so I’m not going to buy this one because it would be difficult to collect in terms of money so I did have to choose. eventually I will buy the rivendell I fell in love with that set.. I liked this one but didn’t conquered my heart. I will wait for the small version

Your Sindarin pronunciation of Barad-dûr was immaculate, so you definitely get a free pass for a pronunciation in the Common Speech as well lol

The set looks fantastic. I will not be buying it day one but since I already have Rivendell, I may end up getting it eventually. Star Wars always comes first so I am saving for that reported Jabba's Sail Barge later this year. Great review. I wish they would have included a few more figs though.

so im thinking of selling the mini figures to offset the cost, when I go to sell them, like the orcs do I need to include the helmet and sword shields for the orcs or do I sell them without? What do counts as complete?

Designed so that multiple can be purchased to make the tower taller. Like £400 is really easy to come by

This set is so good I just bought it and secured the GWP, loved your review! People hate on rings of power sooo much! But I actually enjoyed it. I read the books and the silmarillion so I’m well acquainted with the “canon” but why do people hate?

I don’t know about this set. The biggest draw for me are the mouth of Sauron and Sauron. It doesn’t give me that good feeling like Rivendell does (I needed that set). When it comes to a set this expensive I either “have to have it” or won’t bother.
