What about the codes at the bottom of the box? Are there any differences there that count hint at the exact minifigure?

The scales in the fruit & veg section of my Sainsbury's is only accurate to the nearest gram. However, some of these minifigures differ by less than a gram, so the store scales wouldn't help for those. You can bring your own scales of course, but a) you need to have or buy some and b) the glue that keeps the boxes sealed can vary by enough to make identification by weight alone unreliable.

Yes very true also could use thickness of cardboard missing instructions accessory etc. But can def help you to limit the number to buy. I can see in future lego changing the packaging to random weights etc
