Am I the only person who likes the colour scheme? Sure, the 2006 version had more presence aesthetically, but I still think that this set looks absolutely great. It's a bit odd that a tow truck would have a picture of a car getting destroyed/crushed on the side of it (I'd be scared of a tow truck with that on the side that was towing my car), but it's great nonetheless.

I drove a tow truck for over a decade. I have both the 42008 and 9395, but have yet to pick up the classic 8285. The cost is just not worth it to me. The 8285 is a really great model of a North American heavy duty tow truck. Sharp edges, long hood, exactly what you'd expect on 99% of heavy tow trucks in North America. The 9395 is a very good representation of a light duty wrecker. Light duty tow trucks come in several forms, but are most commonly referred to as a "snatch truck". Yeah, we're all still 14 year old boys from the 50's, old habits and such. But you have auto loaders, which simply have the wheel lift to raise an axle off the ground and tow it. Then you have a wrecker, which typically has a boom and winch(es) to also assist in recovery of vehicles. Then for a few models they focused on European style models, which is where we got the 42008 and 8109. The 42008 is really nice with motorized functions, a gearbox, and plenty of playability. It's based more on the twin steer style heavy duty wreckers in Europe, especially given the "spectacle" style tow bar. That's a style you rarely see over here, and the 42128 has a more prototypical North American style tow bar. The 42128 is by far the **BEST** tow truck model Lego has come out with thus far. It's pretty good representation of a 40 ton rotator tow truck. These trucks cost (in 2019) around $750,000 brand new on the low end and are built to order. It's a tow truck that allows recovery in tighter spaces, so major highways don't have to be completely shut down. They moonlight as a 90MPH mobile crane that charges by the hour instead of by the day, so when they're not towing trucks they can do short heavy lifts for clients. One local company has a contract with a large HVAC company to sometimes unload large units from trucks at jobsites. They truly are worth their cost to any company that owns one. This model has so many features that are prototypical to the real trucks and I regret letting this one slip by in 2021, but at least the resale market isn't too bad for now.

I agree that the stickers and the orange color are the factors that stopped this set from being perfect. I'm very happy to see that this August 21 wave was absolutely amazing, both sets are flawless. Maybe the 42129 just needed a better price tag though.

Last time LEGO began to make more beautiful sets, but they have fewer functions. But this set is perfect. It looks good and has a lot of cool functions. I think, it is one of the best 2021 set.

I only put on the function and warning stickers, and it looks great!

I am a 20 year tow truck driver and if you lift the second wheel, it will INCREASE not decrease the turning radius.

You can't expect every single technic set to have a gearbox..

Wow, this set is just incredible! It has so many functions and playability a great price-per-piece ratio (150 USD/200 CAD for 2000 pieces which is still less than the 10 cent PPP standard), and some (semi-)rare pneumatics. Thanks for your review Unbrickme, I really like how you highlighted both the pros and the cons of the set. I personally don't mind the orange colour scheme, but the stickers (like the ones on the white side panels with the orange thing (monster?) grabbing the car do bother me (although some tow trucks are a bit over-the-top like that). I'll be getting this set in the near future! :)

Another con mentioned already in the comment section is no B model. But I agree with all your points. Personally I don't put on stickers but I almost never do. Only things like numberplate and showing control functions.

seem to be having a issue with the tow ramp hydraulics but the top 2 work perfectly fine. all in all was a great set to work on for my first time 😀

It is an AMAZING se tr for the pieces. Good price for a lit of pieces, and the pieces are a very good variety for mocs.

I think when it arrives and I build it I am going to leave some of the stickers off

If I got this set I would use it to tow my mack Lr garbage truck when it’s tipped over, use the pneumatic crane to extend it, at the hooks on and pull it pack up on its wheels, I have seen some heavy duty tow trucks tow trash trucks in real life,

The set is ok and the colour is ok if it was just one colour whether it's white blue or any colour the stickers are ok but the colour of the truck and the stickers stand out to much and with the ability to tow anything it would make more sence if it was drivable and with some of the functions I think it would be easier and better to have power functions because it would seem to be to much of a hassle having to use each gear individually for one separate function

They way you used the winch on some trucks is just triggering me. You don't pull on the sun visor! It's not a structural part, so you can rip it of easily on most trucks, if you attache a winch to it. You'd be out of a job even before you'd start if you'd try to become a tow truck driver

I own this and i got this for 60€ bacause i give the private lego shop owner(not offical lego store) that 8145 and i love this set the pneumatics are awesome but that lover boom slim sylider witch is controlling the black beam(lifting and lowering) does not work well i have to adjust the black tube to get it to work and its amazing to se now the lifting axel wich we was seen on last time in 9397 b model in 2012 or 2013

I like the color of this set, on box it dont look good but in real its amazing. For the stickers i only used the ones for the hood, the function and the boom. The orange hulk thing is ugly.

Really like the 42128 but the 8285 is much better and it has a proper B model.

Still not much of an improvement over the 42008 Service Truck, if not a downgrade. The Service Truck only has about 1276 pieces and yet it has got a gear box, pneumatics and PF parts. This truck sure looks better, but it just doesn't do much with all that 2017 pieces, not to mention it only has one model, while the Service Truck has a B model.
