Legong Pengeleb is one of the enchanting traditional Balinese dances. The name “Legong” comes from the words “leg,” which means flexible dance movements, and “gong,” which refers to the gamelan as an accompanying instrument. So, "Legong" contains the meaning of dance movements that emphasize the flexibility of dancers accompanied by gamelan music.
The Legong dance originates from the village of Sukawati, Bali, and was originally the embodiment of angels. King Sukawati, I Dewa Agung Made Karna (lived 1775-1825 AD), saw the figure of an angel while meditating and inspired the birth of this dance.
