Sometimes you do “just punch someone in the face”. I did it many times. I learned how to fight in 4th grade, when I got tired of being bullied at school. I was smarter than most kids, and when my dad wouldn’t help me (he was an abusive conservative christian) I came up with my own plan. I had an older cousin teach me a few fight moves. One day I took the biggest bully by surprise and beat the living shit out of him. He had to be treated with stitches, but the bullying stopped cold and I quickly became one of the popular kids. My family moved around a lot, and so I was often going to a different school - 13 of them by the time I graduated 12th grade. At a few of them I was targeted by bullies, and I did the same thing each time. Sometimes I got into trouble, suspended from school and threatened with expulsion if I did it again, but it was never necessary to do it again, at least not at the same school. I’m not saying that’s what this girl’s story is, nor am I saying violence is justified. I’m just saying that sometimes, to a kid, the reward for “just punching someone in the face” is so great that it seems foolish not to do it.

I don't think people fighting over an insult is a modern phenomenon, to be honest. I recall from watching a lot of Clint Eastwood documentaries about the Old West that it happened there from time to time.

Love the chat about the ski resort. In nearby Kitchener, Ontario there's a resort called Chicopee which is an over glorified hill with ski lifts, so I imagine 'Swiss' is similar to that. Now I'm not one to talk. I go down the bunny hill on my snowboard which is barely a single degree in slope and I fear for my life!

I’m surprised the judge didn’t make a comment about mom being at the scene. He is an awesome judge, and in the right place where he can have positive effects on his defendants.
