The Leica X1 is a 12.2 megapixel APS-C point-and-shoot digital camera that was released in 2009. It DOES NOT have a viewfinder. It has a CMOS sensor with a maximum resolution of 4,272 x 2586. It is a fixed lens camera with an Elmarit 24mm f/2.8. The full-frame equivalent is 36mm, and Leica made an optional 36mm optical viewfinder that I own and shoot with regularly. ISO ranges between 100 and 3200. Shutter speed ranges between 30s and 1/2000s. I purchased this camera on eBay from Japan for $631 USD.
Music for this video was mixed using Track Club's Mix Lab feature where you can custom mix any song to adjust the volume of specific stems or exclude specific stems to make your own version of the song.
Audio for this video was recorded in the locations where the photographs were taken using a combination of the Voice Memos app on my iPhone, a Tascam DR-10L lav mic attached to me while taking photos, and the Deity V-Mic D3 shotgun mic on my camera while recording video.
This video was edited with Final Cut Pro.

There’s a decent amount done in post but the RNI Films app does a lot of the heavy lifting with their terrific film emulations. I uses their Portra 400 emulation but dialed it waaaay back because it can be a little too intense and saturated. Of course I tweaked all of the normal stuff - exposure, contrast, color temperature, vignette. But all just minor adjustments. Thanks for checking it out and dropping a comment!

Awesome video! Subscribing. Been eyeing the X1 or X2 for quite some time due to it being one of the cheaper full bodied Leica's (not a Panny Lumix with Leica optics). I see tons of them from Japan but have worried about the customs / import fees / etc? How did that go for you? Anything difficult that way to watch out for? As far as the X1 goes love it? Everything you hoped it would be? Any post process work on these shots?

Thanks for subscribing! If you can afford it I would think about the X2. After seeing the review on the One Month Two Cameras channel, I feel like Leica really improved the camera significantly, especially if you want to shoot street photography. I didn’t deal with any import fees or any issues with getting the camera from Japan. My biggest issue with the X1 is that it’s so slow to take a picture even when zone focusing. It’s kind of maddening, honestly. If you shoot non-street photography, it makes a really nice image. A lot of them have dead internal batteries so you have to set the date every time you turn on the camera. It’s super annoying but just something you have to put up with.

@@somephotovideos thanks for the reply! I'm definitely thinking of saving got the x2 especially with evf. Love that channel she does a great job! Yea I was prepared for the battery issue. I actually replaced it on an x1 for a friend in 2016 his original died. Sight unseen it took me about an hour and half carefully taking it apart and about the same back together. The battery is replaceable. He was quoted $575 back then from Leica to do it but knew I was good at electronics so took the risk of me doing it. Hardest part was the screws behind the leather and getting that back oem afterwards.

Good for you! You're braver than I am with a Leica. I certainly won't pay to send it in anytime soon (if they even do it anymore). Keep me posted on your X2 purchase!

Nope! I edit the .DNG RAW images in the RNI Films for iPad app and add a very, very subtle Portra 400 film emulation and then just adjust highlights and shadows and color temp. I try to keep it pretty minimal. Thanks for the kind words!

Yes, these are edited from the DNG file. The JPGs are a noticeable shift in color when viewed in Finder, but I wonder if that’s Leica doing a little post/editing on them. I prefer the DNG files, especially if you want to recover highlights. I’ve had to underexpose just a touch in high dynamic range conditions just to preserve the highlights, but I also don’t always edit using software that is optimized for RAW workflows. I don’t want to use Lightroom, and I have yet to pull the trigger on Capture One Pro.

@@somephotovideos I wish Leica would have continued this line, it would be amazing to see what an X5 or X6 would look like now, and what the out of camera JPGs would be like.

@@tersono Agreed! Although I believe the Q line took over the X line although it having the viewfinder makes it quite different than the X cameras.

@@somephotovideos yes - but of course the Q line is huge, not at all a pocketable compact like the X series, so that's what's missing to me. Even with a small lens the Q-P is so much bigger than the X2. And 3x the prices of course also.
