Leicester City owner 'on board crashed helicopter' - BBC News

5 жыл бұрынThe Leicester City owner's helicopter has crashed in a car park outside the club's ground as it left the stadium following a Premier League match.
Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was in the helicopter when it came down at about 20:30 BST on Saturday, a source close to the family has told the BBC.
One witness said he saw Leicester player Kasper Schmeichel run out of the stadium towards the scene of the crash.
It is not known how many other people were on board the helicopter.
Leicester had drawn 1-1 against West Ham United at the King Power Stadium, with the match finishing about one hour before the helicopter took off from the pitch.
Witnesses said they saw it just clear the stadium before it spiralled out of control, with some describing seeing a fireball as it crashed.

As a Leicester fan for 14 years and have experienced highs and lows this ranks the lowest point in our clubs history! The word Heartbroken cannot even begin to describe how the whole of Leicester is feeling right now but my thoughts and prayers go out to the Vichais family and all those involved in the crash.

I think it's more about respecting the wishes of the family and also identifying the bodies after a fire can take a long time. I'm sure the emergency services want to do it correctly no matter how long the public have to wait then get on with their daily routine after 'sending' prayers, emojis and what not.

Listen I'm not saying this to troll or be morbid but they need to collect teeth to ID the victims of a tragedy like this. Its why they tell you if a plane makes an emergency landing to use "brace position" so your teeth are easier to find if tragedy strikes. Let's say they declare someone dead and it turns out they were not on board? What then?

It's not going to be easy to identify the victims formerly because we all saw what happened and it was a fireball so I'm afraid there isn't going to be much of the body is left it's going to be a case of bone fragments and DNA and why the experts dealing will know who was on the Copter they can't confirm that people are dead until they have got forensic proof and so that's why they won't put it on the television

Ladies and gentlemen it has finally been confirmed that vichai the Leicester city owner died after the horrific crash outside of the king power stadium now I can't exactly speak on this as I am a Chelsea fan however I will say this was a totally shocking event that never should've happened things like this should never make they're way into the world of football he was able to give Leicester fans a dream they'd always wanted winning they're first premiership title. As I said things like this shouldn't ever be connected with football. And it's so unfortunate that this man had to lose his life in a sudden and horrible event this is a day no fan will ever forget my deepest condolences to LFC

A terrible thing to happen, condolences to those involved. If it were the tail rotor that failed, the pilot wouldn't have stood a chance. A total lack of control.

Having now view the footage we can see that the helicopter made the difficult vertical ascent and then the pilot changed its direction in order to head away from the stadium and at that exact point the rear rotor failed and at that point you have got one second to put the main rotor into neutral in order to try and make a glide type of descent but as soon as the spin starts it is so massive and disorientating that you have lost the moment . What we now need to wait to find out is whether the investigators can find out what caused the tail rotor to fail and if it hit a drone or whether it was some weird mechanical failure which frankly shouldn't happen on a modern well-maintained aircraft

I'm not a LCFC fan but I still to this day cannot imagine a more sobering day for the club, I remember watching the game on tv and the analysis at the end and the shock of everyone to hearing that Schmeichel even tried to help, a terrible day for the city and the club, but I know the people of Leicester will always and forever remember Vichai and those who died 🙏

Helicopters don't just "drop like a stone". You can land one with no engine running. Human error must have caused this.

I think the rear rotor failed. If that happens the helicopter loses stability causing a spin. Presumably then it's down to the pilots skill to get down as best as they can.

@@starlord2112 - Pilots have to be competent at auto rotation before they get their licence. It's damn near impossible to crash a heli with a qualified pilot at the sticks, even with a major failure.

All the information we have about it spiralling to the ground is consistent with the rear rotor failing and when that happens it cant counteract the main rotor and it puts the aircraft into an uncontrollable spin

@@spanner016In some cases you are correct, but to rely on autorotation (as with an autogyro) the helicopter will need to rely on high forward speed to limit the aircraft spin. In this case, and given the short time airborne, the pilot may not have had much time to achieve this. It's all very sad however this has happened. The latest eyewitness accounts say that the copter appeared to be steering away from lots of people on the ground. A near impossible task given the apparent mech failure. And testament to the skill of the pilot.

What Vichai did was just amazing. RIP along with the 4 others. I've seen the video of the chopper spinning and crashing, before the chopper left the back of it was sparking and struggling to depart then spun and crashed.
