Welcome to science at home in this experiment we are exploring the Leidenfrost effect. This is a simple experiment that can be done at home with some water and a hot pan. The Leidenfrost effect occurs when water is dripped on a pan that has been heated to a high temperature known as the Leidenfrost point. When the water comes in contact with the pan, the water beads up instead of boiling away. At the end of this episode you will be able to demonstrate the Leidenfrost Effect, explain what happens to cause the Leidenfrost effect and explain what a liquids Leidenfrost point is.
