When I was 5 years old, my kindergarten class rode on the turn table at the Santa Fe Railroad yard in Bakersfield, Ca. That was in 1958. Bill from California, USA

Hi Rick and Pauline, seems to be a great day out again. The video hadn't stared and Pauline was caught with the candy😂 Good most of them know you by now, they bring some extra probably, so they have something left for their own🤣 Pauline is right, we must have some fun and good candy… A few new layouts so to see and quite some goodies for sale… The guy explained the continental fireless loco partly wrong, it was not steam pressure, but air pressure that was blow into the tank, and they had very limited capacity, not a real success I would say, only used at factories. And it makes not using steam logic, if you would blow steam into a cold tank, with all the condensation you get, you'll end up wit a swimming pool on wheels. It even went further, the pressured air went through an air dryer to avoid, moisture getting into the tank. But strange ducks in loco land they are… Great video again, enjoyed it as ever… Cheers, Danny

Hi Danny, yes the cakes were on a limited lifespan once we got near! Thanks for the info on the fireless loco it's not something I am familiar with. All the best Rick.

Hi Rick and Pauline, the vehicle that seems to have confused you at [40:03] is an OHLE Inspection Coach which was sometimes marshalled within a Wiring Train but mostly ran within a rake of all the other various testing coaches based at the Technical depot at Derby Works. I remember the wiring trains well from my time on the footplate as we would often go out on a Saturday night with the Wiring Train. Sometimes for maintenance purposes, sometimes for rewiring an old OHLE section that needed renewing or even, after a technical problem or accident, complete replacement of a section. The men who worked on them walked along the coach rooftops and had to be aware of all the hazards of doing so. They had some courage too. Even though an electrical section was isolated it only needed one mistake - from anyone - and they could all have been fried alive in a second. We saw a lot of this particular type of coach when they were electrifying the Cross-City Line in the Birmingham area. No doubt setting or checking the wire alignment. I believe they even have (or had) cameras installed so that they could study the behaviour of the OHLE at speed. I'm not sure if they're still about though because I've been retired for a fair while now and I've lost touch with it all. Take care and keep going with the very interesting channel.

Hi Rick and Pauline, another great show, I think one of the best, many thanks for showing the East German layout! Could you sometimes let us know how many operators each layout needs? Rick if I was you I seek treatment for Pauline’s blue railways problem? Perhaps a few green class 33s and 55s may help! Harry
@wellchuffedrailways
@wellchuffedrailways 10 ай бұрын
Hi Harry, I will mention about the operators on layouts where possible as many only have the one operator but with the large layouts that's an interesting point. There's quite a crowd at some of them. As long as the Mallard is blue then there is no chance of Pauline changing her mind, just need to get a streamlined Wrenn big Lizzie next! All the best Rick

Hello R&P, Once more you take us on a great walk around. Obviously, so many things to marvel at, but today I will limit it to the BRAWA 147 (technically a 147.5- as it has an upgraded suspension, braking, and power system inside to handle the higher speeds of IC travel). I have a 147 in red, but never got the 147.5 in white. I would have immediately popped on that one in a second. BRAWA make excellent stuff... in fact, too excellent- sturdy and heavy, so finely detailed with top materials, that they can be too delicate at times- precision metal pieces, very thin and intricate. Great runners, just scared to touch them.

Hi guys, I'm a new subscriber, I love the content, you're a walking encyclopedia of model trains! I just bought my first loco since I was a kid in the 70s, I found a silver seal hornby Flying Scotsman in nice condition for £25 online. I thought it was a bargain? Don't know if it works but I'm bidding on a 900 series controller to find out.

Thanks for the sub it's appreciated. Believe it or not we haven't got a Flying Scotsman but we will at some point. I had one in LNER livery as a youngster in the late 70s. Fingers crossed yours is ok, I'm sure it will be they are very durable models. If not it's an easy fix. All the best Rick.

@wellchuffedrailways Yeah of all the locos not to have, i heard you mention that which is why I thought I'd bring it up. I might be seeking expert advice on how to model a scene around my new train. It's apple green with no. 4472 so I believe it's a pre war livery? I'm thinking about carriages but not sure if I should get teak coaches or something different? I need to research images of the period for inspiration. I look forward to seeing which version you buy and for how much.
