HAWAIʻI ISLAND - Over a thousand government video files, recorded by Unoccupied Aircraft Systems between May and September 2018 during the four-month eruption of Kilauea volcano on the lower East Rift Zone... have been released by the U.S. Geological Survey. Most of it has never before been seen by the public.
This is our first video in a series exploring this newly available footage. The federal Data Release contains videos that were used by emergency officials for monitoring the lava flows that destroyed 723 structures, inundated 13.7 square miles of land, and created 875 acres of new land along the Puna shoreline.
A synthesized voice was utilized in the narration for this story. Video and photos are from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
Follow this USGS url for the UAS data release: www.usgs.gov/center-news/new-...

@@lemonrev Well for the Feds to get involved and override USGS there can only be 2 likely scenario's... 1) The event was somehow triggered by Authorities. or 2) There is a classified government facility in the immediate area. Either that or it was not classified by federal authorities... but i find that hard to believe as USGS would of released the footage quickly. Also on that note, i remember at the time many US government officials trying to downplay the event on social media saying that little is happening and it's nothing new... right before lots of filming started to happen... proving the complete opposite. One thing is for sure... it's fishy.

This is basically a warning to all residents. Releasing this material now as the lava lake and lava tubes recharge is timed to remind people of what is coming again soon. Many residents are still unprepared mistakenly thinking that there will be a repeat of the earthquakes that preceded the last eruption. The amount of lava flowing into the lake is only a small portion of the current underground lava build up in this area. Hopefully here will be a warning like the lava lake draining so people have time to flee.

USGS retiree here. The process of publishing raw data like these video files is long and cumbersome, I’m afraid. The files have to be reviewed to make sure no Privacy Act stuff is included (I know, it wouldn’t be part of this stuff, but they have to do it regardless). They have to create a bunch of metadata that fits in with the federal Open Data standards. It shouldn’t take two years but a year would not surprise me.... It could have been published last year, too, and nobody requested it and downloaded the files until just recently.

@@RoxnDox That explanation is FAR too LATE for anyone caught up in this, When it was happening they had the ability to update live, They could have made the data when ever they chose to do so, As for content that mattered It seems no one there at USGS CARES enough to put it out there or get it out there as this was something EVERYONE on that ISLAND NEEDED to know about Regardless of where they where and it NEVER HAPPENED. It did come in DRIBS but thats still not enough...
@RoxnDox
@RoxnDox 3 жыл бұрын
@@lemonrev To a large degree, I agree with you. They did have the ability to put that video footage out and make it public. What they did not have was the permission to do so, nor the extra staffer that it would have taken to process the raw files into KZfaq and Twitter uploads in addition to the work supporting the other agencies on the island. I actually argued your position with the director of the public affairs office, the guy in charge of that for the Survey, and was told that budget for the operation was thin enough it barely covered the operational costs, and the public release was something they were scraping off the edges. I didn’t like it either, but one low level employee wasn’t going to change anything. So here we are with this slow slow slow process.
@lemonrev

@@RoxnDox Look Thanks for the Reply, I know what its like to work with Less resources than you need, I know they are an agency and they have to make money some how. And now the Agency is still Running Low on resources So i dont know what will happen if another Major event happens again. I dont know what has to happen in order for them to cut and refine those videos but on certain days the public streamed live footage. I just dont want to see things like this happen because they had the resources to stop and block roads after the lava had stopped, I think public safety was maybe a little over the top. there's always plenty to be said. I thank you for trying to make the argument we can only hope they get better funding before the next big event.

It was quite the event.. I use this event as an example when people talk about the homeless like they are just drug addicts and mental patients.. We had so many homeless basically over night because of this event.. granted a good percentage of those homes lost were vacation rentals.. A lot of actual residents were displaced . forever they had some of them sheltered at the park in pahoa.. Others tried to squat at the parks on the dry side of the island because the weather was bad.. And they all got that homeless treatment.. Move it along!.. You get the help and the hate.. And no door or window to shut that world out.. That's why my house is mobile.. It's all about the land not the home.. Its Hawai'i anyways.. I spend most of my time outside usually.. Unless the weather is trash.. But then again i bought land in lava zone 3 not 1 and 2.. I ran for mayor of Hawai'i county in 2012 because i wanted to be prepped for this eruption.. It's predictable.. It was obviously going to happen.. I mean the lava almost took out pahoa just before this eruption.. But they had to go and blast that lava tube which lead to this event.. Still predictable.. It would have been better if we let the lava flow out over the flatter lower parts.. Rather than build up Mauka getting top heavy on an unstable shelf.. Aka the east rift..

TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION If I die today will I go to Heaven? Why would anyone put off the most important decision they could ever make in their lives, concerning eternal life? "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of god-not by works, so that none can boast." EPHESIANS 2:8-9 Moreover, Brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and the he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 The ABC's of Salvation: A: ADMIT THAT YOU'RE A SINNER. This is where that godly sorrow leads to genuine repentance for sinning against the righteous god and there is a change of heart, we change our mind and God changes our hearts and regenerates us from the inside out. B: BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED, AND THAT GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and that God raised Jesus from the dead. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. C: CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.
