I hope you see this comment because I would love some more information. Of course, there is a "regular chimney" above the corner fireplace around to the right.... correct. (Not just the hole the fames are shooting through now.) When the cooking stove is on, the open fire (to the right) is drawn through the hole and into the same exhaust system? In other words, if the cooking stove was "off" and no wood was burning, the open fire in the corner would not be drawn through the hole, correct, but would rise straight up... or perhaps that open fire cannot be burned at all if the cooking stove is not burning first.
