I am honestly shocked people are looking at Kylie Jenners upcoming clothing line with genuine interest. Like, do y’all not remember that mess of a swimwear brand she just did like within the past couple years? That was a complete failure? I can never understand why people are so excited to waste money! 🤦‍♀️

I’m in school to be a nurse practitioner and really appreciate your approach to the research behind these products!! It’s so important to run ANY supplement or herbal product by a medical provider, especially if you are on other medication. There are so many dangerous interactions possible and things that are just a waste of money. Like Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were mentioned as a possible interaction with the chromium ingredient… NSAIDs include ibuprofen y’all. Everything you put in your body, even if it’s just from the shelf at the drugstore, has the potential to interact with other things you take so please be cautious!

The whole supplement thing isn’t that popular in Germany or atleast where I’m living/my community. It’s so fascinating for me that there are so many different supplements you can just buy at target in the US. For me it was always like „okay when I’m chronically sick or old I may need some supplements“ (my grandma used to take some bc she had some deficiencies). The only „supplement“ I’m taking is melatonin bc I have a hard time falling asleep. The US is a whole other world for me lmao

The supplement industry made a big push a couple decades ago to categorize them separately from drugs, so they’re essentially unregulated as long as they don’t make explicit medical claims. Basically, anyone can sell something as a “supplement” with almost no government oversight, so the market is absolutely flooded.

Many Germans have a pretty well balanced diet with far fewer chemicals and don’t need them. If you eat sour sauerkraut you’ve got plenty of K2. Most Germans I know walk a decent amount and get their vitamin D when they can. All up you get most of what your body needs to heal itself. I think most western countries could learn a lot from Germans starting with no more neurotoxins in the water supply. Unfortunately profit comes before the health of the masses.

I’m a biochemist and I just want to say thank you for actually looking into the science 😭 literally no one does this, and worse, most companies don’t even reference which “studies” they’re using to promote these products. If this stuff worked scientists would be riiiiiiiiiich. Why would we do all the work just to continue staying in a lab when we could market our own research and make bank. Like, y’all have no idea how hard we work trying to help people be healthier versions of themselves and improve their QoL. If it was that easy we would be screaming it from the rooftops. We do scream what to do but bc it’s not easy and, frankly, too difficult for many people to do without proper support, opportunists that offer these products instead get the spotlight and muddy the research or outright lie which results in people not understanding how to get healthier.

Thank you for this video. I was in the “biotin wave” and my skin, hair and nails suffered. It bothered me because I have always had strong natural long nails and it see them weak and constantly breaking, so I went to my local pharmacy (London). And she told me I never needed Biotin supplements, that’s what supplements are they’re for when you are deficient on. Biotin deficiency is only found in vegan bodies because only animal products contain biotin. If you eat an healthy amount of meat products, you do not need biotin gummies.

As a chronically ill person that's currently trying to improve my digestion issues, I hate those overprices supplements with a passion. They're marketed as cure-alls towards desperate people and yeah, I've fallen for scams before because of that desperation to somehow get better when nothing helps. Not every condition is caused by a specific deficiency and it is possible to overdose vitamins A, D, E and K. Even too much Vitamin B12 makes me break out like crazy. With things like Biotin, your body will just break down the components and use them wherever it currently needs the building blocks. It will not be like "Ah! Biotin! This has to go into our skin and hair to make them more beautiful!"

My daughter has Type 1 Diabetes, so I've become kinda well versed in how to control blood sugar, and managing it. It boggles my mind that a product would help control blood sugar, but also have adverse effects with insulin. If you don't have either diabetes nor a risk, then there is no point in taking this.

I had the chance to get Lemme products in this season's FabFitFun, and upon looking at the ingredients, it was a hard pass. That being said, I do take the biotin chewies (the one available at Costco) because I had suffered some hand injuries in a dog fight including punctured nails. I was hoping to help my nail regrowth. Well, it didn't help my nails AT ALL. However, my hair looks bomb. I don't need help with hair growth (I have a lot of hair) but it does legitimately look a lot better, thicker, and fuller than before i started taking the chewies. Totally anecdotal, and I agree, if you want to try it buy a cheaper brand.

I think biotin is great, in combination with other nutrients. The practice of separating out one thing and saying this is it, this is what you need, defies how we're programmed to take in nutrients by eating food. It's best to eat our vitamins, and second best to get them with the other things they naturally come with.😊

I asked my dermatologist about using biotin supplement for my super brittle nails. He gave the go ahead (and a suggested dose) … because I matched the sample population from the studies that had shown biotin to be effective for nails (women with psoriasis). A supplement might have evidence of effectiveness, but one important question is if it was tested on people relevantly similar to you?

Something I would really like people to also know with supplements, the fda doesn’t regulate the true amount of supplements in their product vs the advertised amount(what’s on the nutrition label). I could put spices in a capsule and say it’s for metabolism and weight loss with prebiotics and probiotics. Doesn’t mean I say what’s actually in there or that it can actually help. Just do your research off the companies you buy supplements from!!

As someone who has a thyroid disorder I can tell you that Biotin is not the best thing to have in a prenatal. If you’re doing blood work you have to warn the person doing the test that you’re taking Biotin as it can affect the results of the test and make it in accurate. My endocrinologist banned me from using Biotin in my prenatal but sadly it’s extra hard to find a good prenatal without Biotin so we had to compromise with a low dose of 35. Sometimes not having enough of an ingredient isn’t beneficial but other times having a low dose is great for some people and a high dose can be harmful.

I’m a medical professional. Use supplementation if you are deficient. I recommend all my patients take vitamin D every day during the winter.
