I literally broke out into tears when she came out onto that stage. Astoundingly beautiful with such class and grace. RIP Ms. Horne and THANK you for all you did.

That deserved a standing ovation. Lena commandeered that stage. That is being at the center of your power and knowing yourself..

It was 1981...when a standing ovation still meant something. (These days, just about everybody gets a standing O.)

Now that is how a real star grabs an audience and holds on to it.

What a TALENT. What a LEGEND!!!

As a teenager growing up outside NYC, I was fascinated by the commercials for this show and finally took myself to see it when it hit Washington, DC two years later. Even after doing it pretty much nonstop for two years, Horne was electrifying. Almost four decades and more concerts than I can count later, I still rank it as one of the top 3-4 live performances I've ever seen.

I too saw her show on Broadway. It was one of the most moving musical experiences in my 64 years

The world is less because she's no longer with us. What an incredible, unparalleled once in a lifetime performer.

Lena Horne: the one and only original and best

She was from New York but was proud of her Southern heritage. She never forgot the struggle even while enjoying the success. That accent, like a Southern Belle who is proud to be from the South..and was not afraid of being black. That persona was saying, “It took 50 years, I earned it and have the battle scars to prove it. I believed I could even when no one else believed.”

That performance was worthy of a standing ovation get the hell up . Amazing

I think Ms. Horne’s southern voice was part of her appeal. I dare say I felt a similar way listening to Bette Davis at times. But I don’t understand why I don’t hear her any trace of her NY accent. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t change a thing. RIP Lena
