Painting a sunset from the biggest road trip of my life and sharing the story that inspired me to painting.

I am an artist residing in Washington state! My paintings are heavily inspired by nature and its beauty. I work primarily in oil paint, and sometimes watercolor. I prefer to work in a mostly realistic style and occasionally experiment outside of that. I post oil painting time lapses, painting lessons and tutorials, drawings, art tips, and occasionally artist vlogs where I share bits of my life as an artist. Creating art is my greatest passion and I'm thankful for the chance to share it with you. ♥

Watching your video brought back memories from 20 years ago. I took the same trip and I enjoyed so much. Now that you are in the Seattle area please visit skydive Snohomish, is 40 miles north of Seattle. You will meet great people and if you decide to skydive you will enjoy the experience so much.

I have goosebumps. I have been following you for years, and I live and work right in between Goreville, IL and where you captured that sunset. That entire area is so under-appreciated, and I find myself rendering its beauty in my own oil paintings often. We have done that trip twice! We took a similar route you took the first time and took the Texas California route the second time. I like the way you went the best! I hope you fall in love with WA state as much as I have and never leave!! We have been here 15 or so years this time. No regrets! We live in Puyallup , 43 miles from Mt Rainier. Soo beautiful!! Your painting of your experience brought back soo many memories!

I did the Florida to New Mexico route 6 years ago, so I did that one partially 🤣 and also too the Amtrak from Albuquerque to LA, love the desert scenery too! But I have to agree with you, the northern route was more enjoyable 🥰 WA has been amazing and I never want to leave!!

This is absolutely gorgeous! And I love it even more because I feel this piece, and your story in my bones. I know this road, a journey, stretching sometimes endlessly in front of you, one amazing view after another! My husband and I sold our home in TN, bought an RV, and began our move across the country to Washington state directly before covid hit. It was slow going and a lot of boondocking away from civilization, but we managed to see some amazing things in the wilds, and along those long and winding roads.

Dear Lena and Erica, I fondly watched your adventure. Vicariously sharing in the adventure. I lived in Tacoma for 5 years and loved it. I was busy with my job and regret not exploring more. I loved the smell of the trees, the fresh salmon, the people- a different world than the east coast and they know it. Hope this finds you well a year later. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am new to oil painting and soaking up as much as I can. Your mixing of skin tones I found particularly helpful.

Gorgeous sunset you captured so beautifully on canvas! I'm glad the trip went so well and all of you arrived safely. I love the care and comfort you gave your fur babies along the way ❤ So sweet. Those West Coast visuals are breathtaking! I've been in Florida for decades and I would prefer a more 'normal' location that has seasons that give me a break from the sweltering heat, and trees that change colors, but my husband has firmly planted roots here... Hello from Kentucky. I drive a Kia but that wasn't me, ha. I love your choice for a painting. The sunsets here this time of year are amazing. I hope you adjust well to Washington. I've never been there, but it looks beautiful. You'll probably find some great landscapes to paint while hiking over there. Usually when I paint, I simply try to show the beauty of nature, but some have other reasons for painting. I just looked up the word Art from The Golden Book Encyclopedia and found this, which I think you'll appreciate, "In his work an artist often expresses some deep feeling. It may be joy or sorrow or fear. It may be a feeling of calm or excitement. It may be love of God or love of country or love of nature. The work of art should give the person who sees or hears it the same feeling. In this way the arts are a kind of language-a language which is often easier for other peoples to understand than spoken words." I usually joke that I've never made anyone cry when they look at my paintings, like they do when they hear music for example. They never say, "Oh my gosh, your painting of that horse brought me to tears, thank you." Anyway, happy painting Lena.

I have just discovered your channel and you are SO inspiring. It has been a while since I have seriously painted anything and I find this so inspiring. I have been considering oils for a while (I've used acrylics forever but I also hate how quick they dry.
