Here's a quick little recording I made as I was rehearsing with Sue Newsome (bass clarinet) and Natascha Briger (clarinet) for an upcoming recital. From a really sweet arrangement by Terry Stirzaker. Recorded in Sue Newsome's office at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Peter Anthony Smith plays on a Buffet Festival Clarinet, Vandoren BD5 mouthpiece, BG L4SR ligature, and a Vandoren V12 Strength 3.5 reed.

I actually believe that George Martin scored the orchestral backgrounds.
@Lilliputian63
@Lilliputian63 4 жыл бұрын
@@brianbillings6815 You're right. Paul may have suggested that the instrumental "sound" in his head should match the sound of "clarinets", and this may have come from his familiarity with the music of his father's generation (he did request the piccolo trumpet for the solo in Penny Lane), but this is doubtful. George would have sensed that a Clarinet quartet was appropriate and created the scores for all parts. George Martin/Beatles was a pairing made in heaven just as John/Paul/George/Ringo was a pairing made in heaven. They were meant to be.
@sallybrown4947
@sallybrown4947 10 ай бұрын
yeah I think you better thank George Martin. He was the true genius!! He wrote tons of music for the Beatles!! You think Paul knew how to write this music for the clarinetists to play? Not a chance in Hell!!!! Martin is also playing the Piano on in my life. Martin wrote the music for tons of the beatles songs. Yesterday?! That's right he wrote the music for the strings to play. Just like he did on tons of the beatles albums. None of the beatles ever gave him the credit he deserved. People who know how to play music know who the real creator of the Beatles was. They were just damn lucky they got hooked up with Sir George Martin!

This is so beautifully done, by 3 obviously gifted clarinetists, but the score is sadly a bit inaccurate on the last verse. I'm not sure of the musical terminology to use but in the last verse (Send me a postcard, drop me a line), the clarinet in the original Sgt. Pepper version has a single clarinet that plays counterpoint to the vocal, and other clarinets, and that one variation serves to really set off and differentiate the final parts. It's so perfectly conceived and showed how talented and knowledgeable a producer George Martin was. I wish this trio had captured that part.
