Origins
In the Middle Ages there is news of a fortified center called Inola, Inula, Enula, as shown in the parchments of the Montecassino archive.
It seems that Enula took its name from the plant commonly called enula campana, i.e. the Inula helenium of botanists. The enola (hence the modern toponym Lenola) has become..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Another fantastic walk of an interesting small town. Lenola reminds me of scenes featuring a medieval town from a historical movie. I almost thought that this was a ghost town because of the very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. But then I saw the well-maintained plants, streets and houses. It is also maze-like in appearance and seems quite the challenge to navigate all those steep stairways. Lenola does have its own charm and unique character. It is, as if you are stepping back in time....especially the older section. Fascinating to see the tour of the Church of St. Maria Maggiore and the walk up to the Ladders of Peace. Also nice to see the appearance of random cats popping up in your videos 😊 As always, many thanks for taking us along on your journeys to these small towns in Italy. Looking forward to your next video.

Dear Lang, always happy to see you back again and thanks for your kind words, as always. Indeed, this is a town which is in fact very "alive" and people actually live there instead of just using it as second-home or similiar. A charming place for sure. My most beloved memory was when going under that small arch before the ladders... and the peace up there. Beautiful place indeed.

Ciao Ellen, always nice to see each other here: indeed, the past has been, let's say, quite troubling here for Lenola, but it was able to keep its charmo I believe. It's indeed really Alive as a town, you're right, and people actually live there compared to so many others I saw, very true. I also loved very much the walk towards the Basilica. Suddenly everything was completely different there somehow. Very beautfiul day that one, remember it so well. Being alone in the Basilica, while so huge, and outside of it, was quite something. I believe there must be a lot of hidden underneath buldings considering the many earthquakes of Italy, quite hard to say though with certainty! Even in my ltitle town, the last earthquake in the 17th century for instance was quite huge :/ But a lot of roman structures came to life after the many events so very probable so!

Wow, amazing stonework here Ric. Funny to see some clearly recent buildings too. As you were walking (and nearly getting crushed at 14:15), I was thinking... this place needs cats. Then 17:00 came along. Sweet! That town looks lively enough not to be boring, yet calm enough not to feel like a bigger city with the unwanted hustle and bustle. And the variety of Pandas, old and new, is great. That said, I'm pretty sure that land surveyors who have to work there do so listening to «Welcome to my Nightmare» by Alice Cooper. Goddamn...

CIao Hugo, lol at 14:15 truly I was, missed and forgot that part. It's a lively town indeed, and by that I mean that people actually live there compared to many other towns infact. But indeed, the surveyors, lol... I must admit that once it opened up with that arch and the ladders of peace it was absolutely pleasant there. Nice place indeed, very out of the usual routes though

I watched most of the video yesterday but saved the rest for today. What a beautiful town and slightly different from the others in this region. In some parts I thought I was watching a French medieval village. Their villages have spaced out houses and don’t have narrow streets. Thanks Riccardo for this tour, I really enjoyed it. See you in the next one.

Dear Esther, very glad you enjoyed Lenola, as I was waiting for your review of it. It's indeed a different one, agreed on that. And people actually, as far as I could see, live there for real... not a ghost town per se this one. Very glad you enjoyed it. along with the bombing, and brigand raids , i do know italy is as prone to earthquakes as california is. so fascinated as i am with all the stone walls and cobblestone streets, i assume, rebuilding and restoration are on going projects . this town looks really alive and lived in, not just a piece of museum history, so my question this time, is underneath all the rebuilding this town must have endured, is there a set of earthquake building codes hidden beneath the historic exteriors???

Hi Stroop, always happy to meet here as usual. Really nice place Lenola, a little out of the way, a little far from the world I must say, but picturesque. Maybe in the summer it's even more interesting I think and indeed, some of those towns can't compare in that metrics to many in Tuscany for instance, and Umbria to some as well. It truly depends on the position and locations though. But in general that's the truth

Economically and socially there is not a big difference between Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio today...however in the past this difference existed. For many centuries the cities of Tuscany were among the richest in Italy (actually in the world), this wealth gave rise to the Renaissance and of course this can also be seen today because the Tuscan cities have retained a great refinement, beautiful palaces, monuments and great urban planning quality. On the contrary, in Lazio the wealth was concentrated in just one place (Rome) while the rest of the region was a feudal property of the rich families of Rome. This can also be seen today, the small towns of Lazio have a more rustic medieval appearance than the Tuscan ones but for this reason they also have a special charm.
