This is a video showing how to disassemble the y510p in order to do a processor swap, or reapply thermal compound, or any number of things that may need to be done to the motherboard. Also, this was filmed with my new GoPro. Please let me know what you guys think of it and if you would like a review on it.
Computer Specs:
-Intel Core i7-4700MQ@3.2GHz 6MB L3 Cache
-2x Nvidia GT 750M in SLI with 2GB DDR5 V-RAM each
-16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz G-Skill Ripjaw Ram
-360GB Corsair Force Series SSD
-15.6'' 1920x1080 LED Display
Thanks for watching and please remember to comment, like, and subscribe!

Thank you for this tear-down video. I got tired of the shitty thermal paste that Lenovo splattered in there and decided to replace it with some of my Arctic Silver 5. Temps are a significantly better now. Obviously, this video was a great help. If there is anything I can suggest, it would be to warn people to: constantly ground themselves and to create a diagram of what screws go where - near the beginning of the video instead. These two things are incredibly important, as static can ruin your machine. Otherwise, good direction. Well done.

Hey thanks for posting this walk through. I've had this laptop for a good 3 years now and have never once opened it and I was wondering why my performance was so slow compared to when I first bought it. Turns out the fans in both graphic cards were caked with dust (there was so much dust you couldn't feel the air come out of the exhaust!) and after cleaning, I applied fresh arctic silver 5 thermal paste and voila. Idle temps went from 60c to 40c and I can now play games without the cards throttling. Thanks again.

10:00 correction - breaking the "warranty label" won't break your warranty. Although Lenovo support may try to insist, it's actually against the law (either in US or EU) and if YOU will insist, you'll get your warranty. Not relevant to 510p, as it's quite old model and is well behind the warranty period, but for anything newer that's how it is.

I just bought this laptop (the version sold here in spain is just one 755M and a 1TB+8SSHD), and I though it would be easier to get to the CPU so I could replace thermal paste, when needed. I see its more of the same tendency with most laptops nowadays to hide it. Being a laptop that can easily get to high temperatures when pushed due to their high performance CPU and dedicated graphics, I believe it should be a priority in their designs unless they want us to buy a new laptop every 2 years :/

Hey man. Nice video. Really needed this. Thumbs up. Also, could you help me out troubleshooting my Y500 with i7/gt650m(no sli)/8gb ram? So what happens is, if I press the power button, it lights up for a second and then turns off. But if i leave the laptop off overnight, and try pressing the power button in the morning, it would turn on, keyboard would light up and I'd reach the Lenovo logo screen. Then it goes off again. Is it an issue with cooling or thermal paste? Also, does the fan on the processor turn on as soon as you power on the laptop? Please help me out. I tried getting a repair but they're telling me it would cost around $200 to repair the motherboard.

Baustin McManus In this video you mentioned your screen not working because you forgot to plug something in, well I sent a functional Y510p with a minor lcd cable glitch to Lenovo and they said my warranty was void so I asked them to return the laptop but now it won't event boot. The screen won't turn on, not even via HDMI or VGA, but the keyboard backlight works, the SSD is heating up a bit and the GPU fan starts to turn for a while and then stops while all the LED indicators and keyboard stay lit. Could this be caused by the technician forgetting to connect something?

Thanks for this video man. The Y510p Manual is not good to taking apart the keyboard. I followed your video and it was pretty easy (but scary as well). Cleaning the keyboard and ribbon didnt resolve my problem so I am thinking of buying a new keyboard. Any ideas where I can find one? I need the US english version, I have seen some being shipped from China but I am unsure. Installing a new keyboard, do I need to take any specific precaution or just do the same what I did when disassembling and cleaning my keyboard.

I have the Y410p purchased last year. Other than some specs and components maybe being different should the process and steps in this video be pretty much the same? Also, what processor would you recommend for gaming purposes? Right now it's completely stock. It has an SSD but it's only seems to be 25 GB when I open my file explorer and it seems to be 100% empty anyways... They didn't put the OS on it probably because it doesn't fit. I find it silly that they would put such a small SSD on it that it can't even house the SSD...

Upgrading a CPU very rarely, if ever, requires any time in the BIOS. The only thing I could think of that would need to be done in there besides over/under-clocking is enabling virtualization (as it's usually off by default) if you plan on using virtual machines.

can someone please tell me how to get the wide ribbon cable of the keyboard back into the socket? I have to use an unhealthy amount of pressure, but it still doesn't fit... ( I guess the white line on the cable has to be aligned with the socket?) Please help!

In my case I have one with an i7 processor, the problem I have is that being turned off I connect an Arduino to the USB, after that I no longer turn on only the power button remained blinking and it does not start anything, based on your experience that you consider what could have happened ?? I hope you can advise me Thank you very much
