Cleaned out my Legion today following this video. Very easy to follow. It's not a very difficult laptop to open up and clean, even for a beginner, but knowing where all the components are before even opening it certainly gave me a lot more courage to do it, as it was quite intimidating to do it myself. Thanks for the video!

This video is so simple that it actually made me clean my laptop myself instead of going to some repair station. Before the cleaning i had 95-104 on CPU on turbo boost. 85-89 without turbo on CPU. After cleaning the fans (there was a lot of dust) and changing the thermal pad to honeywell 7950 ptm i have 65-72 degrees on my CPU in the same game! Thats crazy. GPU temperatures went down from 89 max to 76 max It was after 26 months from buying the new laptop. The difference was that i had smaller SSD drive that i didnt need to unscrew to remove the battery which was nice. Too bad in order to remove the touchpad you need to remove the motherboard - that design i dont like ( last screw is under the motherboard).

Thank you for the clear step-by-step illustration for disassembling the Lenova Legion 5 15lmh05h. My only complaint is that you did not illustrate removing the keyboard. I bought a new keyboard and would like to replace it myself. I'm sure keyboard replacement is very common but can't find any KZfaq video illustrating the keyboard replacement. Hello, Mr. I have a question for you, and I'd be grateful if you could answer it. My touchpad was rattling. And, believe it or not, I was able to fix it by hardly pressing a area that somewhere below the space bar. I first heated my computer by running some benchmark tests to reshape the plastic, then pressed. But i heard some cracks probanbly the plastic was heated(i hope)And voilà, it's fixed. So my concern is that is it possible to crack or damage the motherboard because it is located directly behind that part of the laptop. You once opened it, and do you remember if there was a gap for the keyboard area to flex or not? Laptop is working just fine btw. But according to reddit motherboards even though cracked may work sometime before a failure

Awesome video. Opened the case to get a look and accidentally popped the 2.5 inch SSD ribbon cable out. I reconnected the ribbon cable and clamped it back in then put the back cover back on. I don't think I touched anything else. When I try to start the laptop, power light blinks on and off slowly - Screen is blank. I don't hear fans. I've tried dischaging (holding down power button, disconnecting battery, removing battery and just using power cable etc). No effect. Pressed NOVO button on side. No effect. Any ideas?

11:57. Okay so opening this will be hard. I had to use a surgical steel object which is very precise to open up the cover. The cover is hard to pull up. It's like they made it so it's hard to open. The components of the laptop are very tightly placed on the PCB. So there's a high chance you can short-circuit something if you do touch it with something made of iron. Opening the battery is the most difficult. It must be done before opening that ssd! So in order to open it you'd have to touch some other component w your finger by accident and pull with some force just like he did... It is a pain. Do not use anything made from iron or steel or anything for this. When you open the support of the hard disk make sure you notice the teeth with no opening in them. These need to be opened so the support can be opened too

Yeah, I think it's the thermal paste. It just doesn't make sense to me how a laptop CPU goes 70°C all the time playing Elden Ring. I think it might be correlated to hardware issue and maybe you have an idea about this. So my keys are not working, but if I combine it with FN key they work well, for example: if I press "Q" its not works, but if I press FN + Q its works. i was planning to properly clean my keyboard for this model , so i've got to that point where i removed system board, but still it isnt that easy as "sliding out" the keyboard. i removed those 6 screws you said , it won't budge. the keyboard itself is basically one with the upper part of the laptop frame(the part on which you rest your arm when you type), thanks to those plastic nits. so yeah i tried what you said, it won't budge for me. maybe i am doing something wrong. ive read somewhere else that is not worth replacing only the keyboard itself because it will never reattach properly so in reality its better to get the entire upper frame with the keyboard and pad as well as one unit
@GamingDog20
@GamingDog20 3 ай бұрын
Did this myself just now, broke all the clips on the plastic frame cause it didn't budge , so I basically have to buy a new frame with new plastic clips for the new keyboard to fit in and stay in there? Isn't it right my dude?

@@GamingDog20 i didn't go that far so honestly i don't know how bad it looks. maybe you can screw inside those clips some small screws to tighten it a lil bit but again dunno. back then i had the intuition to not go further so i stopped at that part. been using external keyboard mostly when i am at my desk. keeps laptop's keyboard in good condition for longer and is more comfortable to type from a mechanical keyboard when at the desk for me.
@GamingDog20
@GamingDog20 3 ай бұрын
@@Jackieception the thing is that it's basically a scam from the factory to make the keyboards like this, because I personally thought I broke something off the bad keyboard, because it was literally impossible to not break it. Then I realized that the palm rest small plastic things broke off and the keyboard doesn't sit in nicely, and there are literally no holes there to screw, it's just pieces that broke off and are now gone lol... Even if I buy a new palm rest to make the keyboard not move, I don't understand how it'll work since it ain't regular screws...

I’m trying to replace my network adapter card with an intel 6e, but the screw holding it to the motherboard feels like it’s been applied with a torque wrench and a pound of loctite. Anyone else have this issue or any suggestions for getting it loosened?

My laptop won’t turn on. It was working great I went on vacation and when I got home I noticed that something was rattling inside. I tried turning it on but nothing happened. I plugged it up and tried again and still nothing. I open the back cover to see what was rattling and it was a small shinny silver screw. I even tried a new power cord along with different outlets and it’s still not powering on. The machine show no sign of getting power.

Little question, if I remove the fans for a deep clean I will have to be force to repaste the thermals of the cpu?
@Jackieception
@Jackieception Жыл бұрын
thing is, you cannot remove the fans without removing the entire heat sink, because even if you remove the little screws on top of the fans, it will be blocked between the sink and the bottom part of the laptop. so yeah a repaste would be necessary and honestly even recommended if you never did it before, since the factory one really sucks ass. i did it with fresh paste, the fans used to blow like crazy when i was playing games now they're quiet as they should be. i also recommend spreading the thermal paste using some little tool, like those little shovels you use to eat ice cream for example. try to make the layer as thin as possible and cover everything. this way you will know that the entire surface of cpu/gpu is covered and also there is no excess as excessive thermal paste can spill over and act as insulator retaining more heat around the processor. other methods like pea size dot or X cannot guarantee this.

Yes you can, just buy L19M4PC1 or L19C4PC1 and replace it. Though it will take the place of the SSD.

Sometimes this could be coming from the motherboard connector, not the keyboard itself. The only way to find out is change the keyboard.

Hey, nice job with this tear down! I have the 17IMH05H model for about 10 months. It's not dusty, but what happens is that fans get really loud, especially the left one (would be the right in your video). Do you have any idea why? Details: it happens even in quiet mode, when the CPU temp is 28 degC and GPU is over 30 degC. The laptop does almost nothing, yet the fan goes crazy, like I would play intensive games. This did not happen in the past. I picked this model because of its quiet mode, which is fine for work and business use when I need it, and if I want, I can run games on it too. But the laptop is also neat looking, the screen is great, and so on. It was a very reliable machine, and I loved how I could play some games even in quiet mode, without too much fan noise. What happened? I tried to downgrade the bios to some earlier versions, but this did not help. I have Windows 10 pro with all the patches/drivers up to date.

I also have the same model you do, with the same fan issue, although my was faulty pretty much right away after recieving the machine, just use this teardown video, order youself some replacement fans, problem solved. since there are muliple machines with this model's fans they shouldn't be hard to find
@replaygeorge
@replaygeorge 2 жыл бұрын
@@baremetaltechtv thanks so much for your reply! So, you say it is a fan issue? That sounds like good news, since it's not the mainboard or something expensive. I still have the issue, sometimes I can work for a hour or two until the fan starts to spin noisily. To me it is clear that something is wrong with it from the way it starts sometimes. It's like it is trying to start but fails, does a loud spin than it stops, and does this a few times until it really blows. I sent it in service, the tech guys said the laptop is fine, even though I send movies with the problem in action. They said it is a gaming laptop lol, even though the machine was idle.
@baremetaltechtv
@baremetaltechtv 2 жыл бұрын
@@replaygeorge this machine is extremely easy to open up, literally one or two screws and you can take off the bottom and watch and see if that fan is whats making the noise. if it is, buy the part and swap it out, prob solved.

I think I've seen this case before. Could you check if your left fan is leveled? Usually the fan got pressed towards the chassis, due to motherboards bending. It could be caused by pressing the keyboards too hard while using a laptop stand.
