"they asked me to check the fuse, but they know I don't have fuses" said Sorin smiling 🤣🤣🤣 Besides being a very helpful channel, probably the best to learn/enjoy electronics.. It's the only one who makes me laugh all the time! Sorin number 1 👍🏻

I have a laptop that is the same model or close enough. My backlight stopped working right after I swapped out a broken LCD. I was worried I shorted it out since I didn't disconnect the battery first. (I know I know) I suspected that I popped the same fuse, but I'm testing it and the continuity is fine. Perhaps it's just the 40pin LCD cable for me?

Love your videos! I have a Lenovo legion 5 that I replaced the screen with after it was damaged. I didn't take the battery off and now it looks like the board has blown a fuse. The laptop will look like it's powering on (power button lights up) but the screen doesn't come on, even on hdmi it shows no signal. Is this something you can fix?

You have taught that fuses usually blow for a reason. In this video, I don't recall seeing you checking for a short. We're you going by experience or is there a condition where you should try replacing the fuse first? Watched many of your videos, thank you for the content.
@aviandragon1390
@aviandragon1390 11 ай бұрын
That's what he was doing when he worked the lid back and forth, and that's also why he tested it with the charger plugged in. He is probably not going to charge for this repair, so it is not worth it to spend hours exhaustively searching for a short. Just give it to the customer and they will bring it back if it happens again. Be smart with your time.
@easierrogue
@easierrogue 11 ай бұрын
The fuse wouldn't have measured OL if there was a short 🤓
@aviandragon1390
@aviandragon1390 11 ай бұрын
That is not necessarily true. A short may be hidden behind an active component (transistor), or as Sorin said, it may be something like a capacitor that only shorts at a higher voltage. If finding shorts was always as easy as putting one meter lead on ground and the other probe on a fuse then fixing electronics would be a whole lot simpler and no one would watch this channel.

Can you please help me?? My lenovo legion 5i had its motherboard replaced. I am unable to start the secure boot from the bios menu. Is there anything that can be done ??????
@Aneesh.Asokan
@Aneesh.Asokan 11 ай бұрын
First go into the BIOS, disable legacy boot, then enable secure boot . Rarely I have come across some models of laptops (acer) which allows secure boot only when we set administrator password for BIOS!
@arsucka

@Aneesh.Asokan
@Aneesh.Asokan 11 ай бұрын
@@arsucka As default, legion laptops comes with UEFI & secure boot enabled, then how it went into CSM MBR mode? Go into your BIOS boot options or advanced boot options, enable UEFI, some BIOS do have an option legacy & UEFI then enable secure boot, save & exit BIOS. If still that option is greyed out, set administrator password to your BIOS save, exit BIOS. Then re-enter the BIOS typing the administrator password, then you may be able to select secure boot. I have seen such scenarios on some servers. Good Luck!

My first laptop was a HP that developed this same issue. HP wouldn't fix it without changing the motherboard which made it a not affordable repair even though in retrospect it was an easy and cheap fix, replacing the fuse. After that I stopped recommending HP laptops to anyone. I just wish their was a laptop that worked. The most I expect I need to do to any laptop now and then is replace the thermal paste. Can anyone recommend good brands that never break down or break down less often. Bad experience with HP, MSI.

If u want ultrarepairability and upgradeablility then framework, its costly yes but you can just replace parts over time, which could otherwise make having new laptops cheaper. And as for rule of thumb maybe avoid macbooks and of such.

I really don't like replacing a fuse without a root cause. These drive me nuts. Hopefully, there's some rational explanation involving the customer doing something dumb while attempting to clean, or adding memory, or whatever. If it's embarassing, then we may never know.
