really liked the internals comparison with the 2022 model. none of the other reviews do this and its very nice to see and informative.

I have the 2023 model Pro 7i with the 4080 and it's superb. Delivers 60+ FPS in all of my games while running silently in Quiet mode. Crazy.

It's crazy how thin they made that while also making it somehow run at some of the lowest temps. Not much lower, but lower. I've been looking at alienware, asus, and msi. I found this one and I think this is the model I'll be getting. I may get the 4090 though.

I may be in the minority in liking the plastic vent exhaust. Plastic doesn’t retain heat the way metal does so grabbing the back after a long gaming session won’t burn your hands. Thank you for the review. Just purchased it!

That 2022 model is so freaking lit! I dont know what Lenovos designers smoke when they released the 2023 chassis. For me it is a downgrade compared to 2022 design. Sad. If only I can get 2022 body with 2023 internals that would be perfect.

Very helpful video. Having a hard time deciding between this unit and the Scar 16 and Blade 16. This seems to be the best value at least. Wish the screen was mini led though.

Great video man. I was a bit concerned about GPU temps on peformance mode which is getting to 86 - 87 degrees, but when changing to full fans on custom mode this drops to 75-76. Question: what do you put on the sliders on the custom profile? I don't know if to push everything to the max

Hey man! Great video Quick question: how are you undervolting the CPU? you mentioned its the core and botch p and e cores i guess, so its probably throttleshop? (lenovo vantage doesn't allow undervolting of the p cores). What's yoru stable undervolt? And regarding the GPU overclock, which program are you using for that? MSI afterburner or lenovo vantage? and what where your final stable undervolts/ocs

Do you remember what was Cinebench 23 Scores on factory settings performance mode? The max I could get on Multi Core score was 28 000 with Performance mode switched to extreme in BIOS. I have legion 7 4090 model. Is that a normal score or it will be better if return this laptop? thanks !

So I ordered the 4090 and also Alienware m18 .. last years Lenovo looks more premium but that’s cosmetic and performance matters most. Does it run at the full 175 watt consistently ?

Would have been wonderful if they combine design of gen 6 and 7 for this year's model. Take the flat back and hinge design of gen 6, exhaust and everything else from gen 7. Voila! best laptop design ever.

Thanks for your review. Afer watching this and other reviews I bought this very one 2023. I wanted to ask you if you know about upgrading Ram. I've heard many different tales. For the most part if you upgrade to 64GB of ram your speed will be reduced to 4800. I am a video editor only. My friend has 64GB of DDR5 ram he is willing to sell me cheap but it's 5200. Is that ok and will it be a for sure benefit for video editing in mostly adobe premiere, lightroom, photoshop and some Davinci Resolve. Please let me know what you think. My tech skills are not all that.

I agree 2022 is insaneoy good. No gaming laptop can reach that level of pleasing asthetic looks but i alo like the design of 2023 black color very simple its very good actually better than any laptop in design exceot razer.

Picked up the 7i pro w/ 32mb ram & 4090 16gb. This laptop is seriously fast. I cannot believe how it just shreds most desktop gaming rigs. I replaced my 7i 1660ti and the difference is crazy..

Looking at a new laptop, between a lenevo and and heavily on sale corsair (amazing build qaulity). I don't need the fastest, just a good build quality. My 2020 Asus m15 1660ti i7 10th gen has been the worst product I've owned in my life, not just computers. Bendy plastic chasis and fragile parts. You can really feel that some bigger companies just pump things out and then when the devices have major lemon issues after a month+ they basically say "Good Luck!". Thanks for spending time on the build. There's def a reason people just stick to macbooks and desktops. I've learned my lessons over the years but unfortunately my life still involves travel and uncertainty for a desktop.

10 out of 10 without features that should have been there such as a fingerprint reader, at the minimum! Imo this is obviously not a 10, a solid 9. Could have been a 10 if the features from 2022 were carried over. Solid review

I arrive a little late but from other dissasembly videos I can tell that the heat sinks (aka radiators or exhausts) are much bigger on the gen 8 Anyway, I think they did a great move about cutting those features in order to keep it reasonably priced. I digged a little and my estimate they saved on these features (brushed alum, more RGB, glass trackpad, etc.) like 150 - 200 USD. Wich keeps the laptop below the whooping $3k ultra premium range

Is it better to get the 3070ti or 4070?

I have finally bought the 2023 model. I can get past the looks, the plastic body and front facing speaker. I am a Thinkpad P50 (2016) user. I badly needed an upgrade for my CAD modeling mobile workstation and Lenovo has seriously messed up the P series. The latest P16 is twice as expensive if you opt for a decent graphics card and uses last get CPU. So, just by looking at CPU performance I was convinced to get the Legion 7i 2023.

Great review, on par with Jarod's...the two best on YT for this model. I am currently waiting for my Pro 7i 4080 to arrive, while I was hesitant for months due to many stepbacks from 2022 model that I would love to have, especially the glass touchpad and fingerprint sensor... it's still the best bang for the buck, given that the 40 series laptops are super expensive and ROG strix g16 or a Zephyrus m16 or an MSI vector (which are in similar category also) are not that much better... see tons of complaints about the Strix G16 (that would be my second choice) for backlight bleed, coil whine which for a 3k+ USD/EUR laptop is absolutely unacceptable. And those are also plastic, even more so than the legion pro 7i, while also looks too "gamery" which is not for me. With 2023 prices, I believe the 4080 Legion 7 has THE single best price/performance ratio on the market right now: great look and built quality, awesome performance with really good cooling, bright and fast 16" screen. In the end for the majority of buyers these matter most I think.

I'm particularly interested in the AMD Dragon Range 7945HX version of this laptop. It beats the 13980hx in Cinebench R23 multi core.

How are you supposed to properly clean the fans and internals when you can't remove the fans without removing the Vapor Chamber? Which would then required repasting the liquid metal on the CPU and PTM on the GPU???? Over time dust and debris will surely build up in there if you can't remove it for a deep cleaning... I've also read some nightmares regarding the service on the vapor chamber, that some Lenovo technicians did not either reinstall the vapor chamber correctly or the thermal interface material was done incorrectly and thermals went through the roof? Little concerning that some simple maintenance seems quite difficult now. So much so even their 'certified' technicians manage to botch some services.

Great video, very well done. For me personally, looks and premium feel matters, but so does performance. Your review was insightful to let us know that this thing is a performance beast! I am willing to ditch that premium feel for extra bump in performance, hopefully I find a good deal on this machine, 2749 is a bit of a stretch for me. I am hoping they do frequent sales like last year, all models last year consistently had about 20% off. Do you think Lenovo will do that this year too and I might be able to get it 2749-20% ~ 2200 ish?

I've got the slim 7 i9 with 4070 model now. It's more or less on par with the 2022 7 Pro model which is greeat for me. Sure, if you need more power go with the 2023 pro model :) IF you need portablility - go with the slim.

I like the new one having more type as but overall I went with the 2022 model, superior in nearly every way and the specs are still quite modern. I also really love the fingerprint reader and metal chassis. Underrated! Really hoping the legion 9 brings back the 7 features but with the extra umph. (I also just don't get the lan downgrade)

Brother the legion 7 2021 5800h has cinebench r23 score of 13000 and the 2023 12900hx has 33000 does this mean the legion 7 2023 is 3 times faster than 2021 with 5800h

I just wish they had a miniled like some Asus, razer, and maybe MSI models. But the Asus models often have terrible coil whine. The razers are overpriced. Premium laptops seem like a case of pick your poison. Which is unfortunate given the price premium.

You said “2.5Gbps Ethernet only matters if you’re running fiber at your house” - there’s a couple reasons that’s not true. First, many cable ISPs offer beyond 1Gbps internet. Second, your home network can be 2.5Gbps even if your WAN connection is 1Gig or lower. It more than doubles file transfer speeds on things like NAS/home servers etc. My home network is wired for 2.5Gbps and I have only 1Gig internet. So yea, it’s a huge downgrade, especially since 2.5Gbps can run on existing Cat5e cable, and more and more devices are adopting it as standard. Crappy cost-cutting measure IMO

Hopefully Lenovo comes out for full AMD version 🙏, and by that time amd will unleash their other gpu laptops option
