You need more than 16 GB of memory if you want to create multiple Virtual Machines for learning IT stuff, i7 P series processor will complement this specific need
@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
It’s very specific niche use. 99% of people don’t need more than 16GB. I reviewed a laptop with 128GB RAM, there is a need for that for some people. But generally 16GB is fine everything even gaming

Same model with i7 12th gen is on sale. Would you suggest buying. My big concern with these are battery backup, ive heard that they do have terrible backup. I mainly use it for coding and planning to keep it dor next 5 to 7 years.

Battery in ours is good. If you buy for 7 years - buy i7 and 16gb ram minimum. Everything will be “demanding more and more resources”

Anyone looking to upgrade storage on 15 G4 IAP. You should have one 2280 NVME slot available. The supplied drive in mine was a 2242 form factor. Of course this may vary between certain models. You can check device manager and Google your drive model to confirm. Nice of Lenovo to give option of dual NVME storage with these laptops. You can never have too much of that right? Even if you only use second SSD for backup purpose. Big and fast storage is cheap now thankfully.

HDDs/SSDs went down in price like crazy this year. 2TB SSD can be a cheap but really good upgrade
@mattscomp

@@alegreviews I don't understand why so many laptops shipping still with 256GB SSD. Maybe factory full of those drives and it's like we have to use these. The cost difference to 512gb is so small now. Like noone building their own PC even two years ago is selecting a 256GB SSD. But Lenovo, HP etc all saying there you go 256 is enough for you..
@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you. Also when you want to build the laptop through manufacturer - extra ssd/ram cost crazy money, same Apple, with everybody. That’s why I prefer desktops because it’s very easy to upgrade. And I have secondary SSDs 4TB in each of them

Buy what you prefer to your own taste. It does not have to be a premium thinkbook/thinkpad product line. Make sure you buy something with CPU powerful enough and enough RAM for the programs you are planning to use

After this much time , how satisfied are u with this laptop. At this time with all the laptops released will u be satisfied with it still or u would suggest some alternative. I also heard about hinge issues .
@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
I like it, works well, nothing broke. I have laptops for work and family from different brands, I get whatever is on sale at a good price at the time when I need one for a specific purpose. So I may buy any brand if it is good for what I need at the best price. Prices change daily / weekly so it would always be something different. Overall I am satisfied with Thinkbooks. I think it is a good product line, I like it more than direct competition, closest one would probably be HP Pavilion. But again if Pavilion is on sale for $100 less with same specs I would just go for it. I am not attached to a single brand. I have HPs, Dells, Lenovos, Acer, Omen. I also really like new Asus Zenbook which is probably in this price range and also premium, probably considered above Thinkbook.

How is the performance in this one. I'm thinking of buying one for coding. I am confused with 1.6 base clock speed. Is it enough?
@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
Low base clock speed is a good thing. You can save energy (battery life) when you don’t need much power. When you do something that requires a lot of CPU power - it will work on too speed. I5 12th Gen is great

@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
Why do you need a 4K screen? Especially for a laptop Barely any videos are in 4k, streaming services and youtube videos are rarely in 4k. All of the TV channels are in FHD or even HD. 4K in laptops is only useful for graphics editing or high performance gaming in powerful gaming laptops

@@alegreviews idk just to enjoy Netflix
@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
To enjoy that - you need their most expensive plan, great internet and even then most of content on Netflix is not in 4K. I’ve seen some laptops at around $800 that have a 4K screen, they always come relatively powerful, probably aimed at photographers who do image editing. I’ve never seen a weak cheap 4K laptop. Price difference for screen itself is significant so they put in only in premium models

@alegreviews
@alegreviews Жыл бұрын
Video quality, brightness, contrast, colors etc - these all are best in … again premium laptops. It is a matter of price. Everything must be on sale to at least to be considered to be a good deal. For screen quality I d suggest buying some thinkpad with great screen on 50%+ off, and again it won’t be something cheap). This laptop has medium kinda screen quality, it is above cheapest stuff but not high quality which is again more expensive I can take a quick look what is good on the market right now. What is your price range, screen size, and do you need touch-screen or not really?

if you do some gaming or watching movies with fast action - then maybe. But overall Dell Inspiron 3xxx series are very cheaply made, they compete with Lenovo Ideapad 1 I'd say. Thinkbook competes rather with something like Dell 7xxx series or maybe Latitude
