The Lenovo Thinkcentre M83 Tiny is a small business oriented PC that is designed to work with their Tiny In One Monitor. What's nice about the system is that it provides IT professionals with a very easy means of swapping out once system for another given how it docks to the monitor. There are no cables to connect, just slide it in and plug in a fixed connector to get everything working.
This review unit has a quad core i5 processor at 2.0 ghz installed, although its performance was hampered a bit by its lack of an SSD. This unit also came preinstalled with Windows 7 which adds a $50 premium to the price.
This is another example of the diversity of hardware in the PC market. It's a decent i5 based business machine.

This is great for business. The only gripe I have is that this was not implemented in the business I work for. (We still use full size M83 computers) One minor issue: I'm pretty sure you can't power the device by using the yellow usb port. That's the "always powered USB" port and it's used for charging a smarphone or tablet even if the computer is shut down.

thats an interesting concept, my work is looking for a replacement for the old thinkcentres from like 2008. this could be something they would consider how ever i would remove that spinning hdd and replace them all with ssds. thanks for sharing this lon will pass on the information :D

Does either the computer or the monitor have a Kensington security lock slot on it to prevent theft? Especially with a computer system unit that small, people might worry about someone stealing one from their office or something like that.

Hey Lon! The place I work at uses a similar model of lenovo desktop (M93). Pretty much the same thing except no built in wireless. They are nice little machines.

Doesn't the yellow port on the front supply power even when the PC is turned off so you can charge your phone ore something like that?

Just got one of these from an eBay refurbish seller. 16gb ram, 500gb. This runs fine with windows 10 but screams with Debian 10. I’ll be editing video on this.

Can you extract that pc and use it elsewhere without the monitor? Will it work? Does that tiny pc have a power supply plug that could charge without the bought monitor?

That is an interesting idea. I can certainly see how it would be useful, but it all comes down to price. Is it cheap enough to warrant saving a little space and a little time for your IT guy. I have turned several off-lease Lenovo M-series computers into very cheap gaming PCs for family and friends, and have had very good luck so far, but I don't think this one can be re-purposed in that way ;)

SWEEEET! These kids now are so spoiled, I'm going on 54 we had no choice than to be creative, go fishing, camping on and on these kids now think we had all this, NOT, but it's been really nice to see the transition and maybe what's to come... I remember back when 8 track tapes came out, the cutting edge, but had no mercy on the song when it faded out to switch tracks and faded back in, but I immediately went out mowing lawns, painting garages and everything else needed to get one back in the mid-1960s to the late-1970s when the Compact Cassette format took over. I managed to buy a Panasonic that had auto eject, how kewl! I still own that Panasonic in perfect condition that went to show and tell at school and the teacher was blown away, he let us listen all day, during my show and tell I remember saying that one day we would be able to play all of our music from a chip with no interruptions, but I did think we would also have computers like that and played music, we're so close

Hi Lon, From the perspective of a corporate executive this clip has given me some ideas for the work environment. You mentioned something about IT departments using images to have the employee up and running in-case of a failure. It would be appreciated it if you could explain (suggestion only) such methods and what kind of software there is out there for this strategy. For us executives it is imperative we have the data and environment on the desktop easily available back and up at the shortest possible time frame to ensure business continuity. Again this is not a request but a suggestion. :) Thanks for the informative videos. Keep up the excellent performance.

Hi Lon, you have a video of pipo x8? Normally I do not subscribe to any channel, but if you make a detailed pipo x8 video, I subscribe to your channel. Greetings.

With enough RAM and storage space it'll be fine. Even better if you boot your VM's off an SSD.

Why not reach out to Lenovo to review the same type of computer but a 2019, 2020 edition. They are now up to 7th and 8th generation Intel quad core cpu etc. Much more interesting now as a regular tiny office computer or multimedia PC for a TV setup.

It's incredible how power-crazed MS can be sometimes. Everybody hated Vista, so they smartened up with Windows 7 for awhile, but then proceeded to upset everybody with Windows 8. Does it have to be a perpetual cycle of abuse?

Sir it's not Windows 7 slowing this system down it's the hdd its 5400rpm very slow compared to the 7200rpm desktop drive's

I know, silly right? Why they still use snail slow 5400 drives instead of 7200 with drives being so cheap now I don't know!

The Dell 7070 is much more compact then this machine. It actually fits on the back of the monitor support arm as a cover. www.dell.com/en-ca/work/shop/dell-desktops-workstations/new-optiplex-7070-ultra-desktop/spd/optiplex-7070-ultra

comparing a 5 years old system with a new one makes no sense, since now you can get only sh lenovo m83 tiny and it's around 100-150$, maybe compare the dell with the latest lenovo tiny units.

Anybody who spends a $1000+ on this combo will probably put a SSD on it.
