My used i5 8GB RAM 250GB M.2 L390 Yoga arrived today, it was so filthy. I cleaned the fan and re-pasted the CPU, the old paste was probably from the factory, it was dry and crusty. Dusted the board as much as humanly possible. Took a toothbrush with isopropyl to the keyboard, got in between the key gaps, so much crud came off. Brushed some more between all the gaps around the trackpad and trackpoint buttons and the gaps around the keyboard frame. Gave the screen and body a good polish, cleaned the ports. Now I wait for my 1TB M.2 and 16GB x2 RAM sticks to arrive. In the meantime, I updated Windows 10 and used Lenovo's update software, got some extra firmware, driver, bios updates, just for fun, since I'll be doing it all over again for the new 1TB M.2 drive. Gonna dual boot Windows 10, maybe 11, still not sure how well 11 runs tablet mode, and Linux, possibly Mint. I had a tiny bit of buyer's remorse with it being in such disgusting shape, but after some much needed TLC, I'm really liking this machine, especially for the $165 in total that I paid. It's a nice companion to my T480s, though, I do wish the L390 keyboard was the same as my T480, it just doesn't have the same snappy feel as the T480s, it feels slightly mushy. It's not a deal breaker, though, since I will be using it in tent mode with my mechanical keyboard most of the time.

This is my sweet spot. Upgradable m.2 drive and DDR4 memory, and no 2.5" drive bay. I manage to get one during the 2019 Boxing Day sale in Canada with Core i5, 8 GB memory, 256 GB drive, touchscreen, backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader and pen. I upgraded the drive with a 512 GB WD Black and added an extra 8 GB memory module. Total price with my personal upgrades was $960 CAD or $722 USD plus sales tax.

I'm just a personal home user, not a business one, but I still want one of these. I actually dig the design, and the durability and upgradeability is great. I can see getting it and just having it last me years. Looking to do casual web browsing, media consumption, some FL Studio beats, very light/legacy gaming or just streaming my Xbox One to it, and maybe a bit of digital drawing if the AES pen works enough for me. Do you know if any art programs are somehow able to compensate for the jittery lines at all?

The thermals are interesting. I have an xps 13 and I am in a warm room that is regularly over 75 degree during the summer. I have found that the machine regularly hit 100 C according to to Core temp. I have noticed that the machine goes through a restart when it comes out of sleep mode. I think it is shutting down during heat while in sleep mode and hten cant correctly come back out of sleep mode without restarting. So I would recommend you spend time testing this feature on the L390. I think some BIOS updates that Dell made recently have also contributed to this issue.

Close, but no cigar. No option for a dedicated GPU means no sale. I've got the Thinkpad Yoga 14 20FY (the one which strangely was only sold at Best Buy) with a 940m, and that little dGPU made a huge amount of difference in what I could do with the laptop. Opened it up for light gaming and GPU acceleration for more demanding productivity apps. Really disappointed that none of the current Yogas have an option for a dGPU, out of all the 2-in-1s I've used I liked Lenovo's design the best with the trackpoint and the ability to store and charge the stylus in the PC (plus Lenovo's keyboards are always good except for the ctrl key being in the wrong place). What I would really like to see is a Yoga version of the Thinkpad X1 Extreme. It's already got the stylus support on the screen, all they need to do now is add the Yoga hinges.

I bought the L390 Yoga Thinkpad, i5 -8265U, 1080p Touch with backlit keyboard, then upgraded to 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD... It would be the perfect laptop with a slightly bigger battery, still I get 6 to 8 hours of mixed usage. Note: I accidentally dropped it on its side, not a scratch! Other laptops would have broken the screen... It's VERY robust.

They no longer make Thinkpad W-series laptops and haven't for a few years. The workstation models are the Thinkpad P-series (P52, P52s, P72, & P1). I think she has reviewed all of those...if not the latest versions (P_2 models), then she has reviewed the P_1 versions from 2017 that are identical except that the P_2 versions have newer processors and the available configurations may be a little better. The Thinkpad P1 is identical to the Thinkpad X1 Extreme except that the graphics are different: Nvidia Quadro graphics in P1, Nvidia GeForce graphics in X1 Extreme. Quadro graphics are better where high precision is needed (like with CAD software) over speed of rendering, while GeForce graphics render frames faster (better for gaming, video editing, and software that utilizes GPU acceleration) but performs slower than Quadro graphics when it comes to high-precision CAD rendering. The P52s has a much less powerful processor than the other ones, even though the name (i5, i7) may be the same.

Lisa, unless I'm mistaken ( I'd be very glad in this case ), they have not released any model with power bridge or swappable battery this year, T490 has only a single internal battery. I'd really love for them to just keep a single persistent model that retains this distinct and useful feature - similar to how the old MBA ran for several years.

My work L470 is old and it is meh. The T series I had used were tanks. You could not kill them. Used as invoice, and music demo machines at our hifi shows. They are still going today! Slow as hell, but still going strong. The new premium are nice, but dubious on pricing for what you get. But the Carbon X is sweet.

DDR3+ can also work Double Data Rate with uneven modules. The Larger Module is partitioned to match the Smaller and the rest is used as Single Data Rate Memory. It is better to perfectly match the modules (same product code), but, needed to add this to the talk. Query your laptop/board documents to whether this hybrid ddr configuration is available for your system.

just got this bad boy in my position, initially fell for the 270 series at $400 and i tell ya, that thing came with the 6th gen processor, TIN display, no Fingerprint reader, no back-lit keyboard, horrible track-pad and began lagging shortly after the initial setup. sent it back and the L390 is light years ahead for the roughly $300 more you pay (at sale price), the 8th gen CPU is still very fast, the upgradable ram slot is something that missing even from the X390 series, touch screen is very sensitive, and the trackpad is indeed "very mac-like", the 360 rotational hinge is very stiff and feels like it was built to last, the magnesium-aluminum lid inspires confidence in the device to be used as intended and keeping the screen safe, the keyboard is very tactile and the backlit function is a great attribute, and most importantly the garaged pen is perfect for those of you with occasional need of an stylus (i have heard multiple complaints about the pen being too small and i have to say this is not my experience) i am comfortable drawing or taking notes with the galaxy note stylus and this is pen is in fact much bigger and houses comfortably in the device, i have also heard complaints about the bezels being too large, a and this is not my impression at all, specially if you intend on using the device in tablet mode, the roughly 1cm bezels allow for a better grip/palm rest from any side while not being overwhelmingly huge (minor differences that are noticeable when comparing 100's of devices but not really noticeable or bothersome in person), all and all this is one well rounded machine and i highly recommend it.

If it's meant (mainly) for schools, they could've put in a bit higher capacity battery. Btw. it's a dead ringer for the TP Yoga 260 from a couple of years ago (which is only a bit smaller, 12.5").
