My job provides me with a P15 Gen 2, beast of a thing. I love it, except for the odd day when I have to go to the office, and I have to pack this damned thing in my motorcycle backpack, haha.

great presentation my brother keep up the good work now ive seen why we should buy thinkpads especially the P series are thinkpad beast laptops, coz of gpu removable module which can be upgraded as well , now lenovo should also make an option of un soldered CPU for upgradesi think lenovo is the bleeding age laptops than all those other companies and gaming laptops, very soon thinkpads are gonna be sloted with 2 slots of GPU & 2 slots of CPU and the external battery plus builtin battery should be roped in on all P series

Soldering the CPU is actually a decision by Intel and AMD more than Lenovo. That's why every modern laptop has it for better or for worse. Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍

@@LaptopRetrospective I do indeed. I am running some heavy-duty bioinformatic analysis that sometimes take days to complete.This is why I bought 8gb gpu version with 64gb ram and 2400ghz i9 cpu. Surface laptop sometimes lags even when typing. I just wanted to buy something that makes my life easier under $1000. I have high expectations but I am also a bit scary in regards to what to get. I hope it is not a faulty product or something like that because the price was really low.

The GPU's really on a module, now?! I may have to change to this from my P50 in the future. The GPU's little BGA solder balls giving out has always been a subconscious fear, when using Nvidia-equipped laptops.

Thank you for the review. I bought a P51s last year, and it came with a low spec graphics card. I would like to know the ambient sound/noise level of idle and at max power. Mine is pretty loud and throttling when it gets close to the temp limit and eventually hangs up. Curious about thermal efficiency of this newer workstation-ish laptop.

Hi. Do you know by any chance if it is possible to install the GPU board for P15 G2 into the P15 G1? If it is, that would be absolutely amazing, but I think it there is no such opportunity because of different generations of GPUs (and different pinouts of the GPU sockets). And the second question - is it possible to change original cheap FHD display with 4K display in P15 series? I have doubts about it because FHD displays usually have 30 pin connector, while 4K displays have 40 pin connector.

I've been asking this all over the place. Do these later thinkpads have the absolutely terrible trackpoint latancy? I've gotten rid of a x13 yoga gen 1 a t14 gen 1 and a t480s because the trackpoints are completely unusable in linux, they're slightly better on windows but still straining to use. They feel laggy, jittery, inaccurate; like you can physically see they're not smooth. My x230's trackpoint feels amazing on linux, like 1-1 response. If you don't see what I mean go back and try an x220/x230 it feels 10x better
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 6 ай бұрын
Might seem silly to ask but are you replacing the TrackPoint cap at least once a year? It is a consumable item and as it wears it will change the performance of the strain gauge.

@@eone199 You really think that the P53 is better than the P15 because of the HDD indicator and physical mouse buttons??? First of all, if you don't use an HDD, that indicator is useless. Secondly, a physical left and right button is fine but a middle one??? I don't see any use of this.

you should not bring this stupid thinkpad into your video this P15 is a cursed, stupid thinkpad workstation design, which kickstarted the downfall of P series laptops..whoever engineer designed this stupid machine does not know the thinkpad heritage line at all starting from this stupid thinkpad, all led indicators and physical mousepad buttons are removed from P series laptops with no reason at all, not to mention the removal of hdd tray which is very useful to store hdd drive for god sake

Guess we will have to disagree. The LED indicators and mouse buttons must not have been wanted by the clients that buy these devices anymore. Supporting HDD is also kinda pointless in newer machines.
