Just received mine last week. Tried both Gravity benchmark & Universe Sandbox on both the default T600 & integrated 680m. The T600 is slightly faster than the 680m in Gravity benchmark but the 680m is 2x faster in Universal Sandbox. :D

I'll do a quick update video on it but to summarize, the laptop is excellent and because of the efficiency of the AMD CPU, the 68wH battery is still able to retain 99% of the original design capacity after almost one year. Being able to use USB4 on it allows for compatibility with the Thunderbolt 4 docking station which was shown in my other video with this laptop.

Linux user here. Tried multiple times a laptop with native intel and Nvidia switches, like this one. It is called bumblebee project. I simply hate it. Only works nice on windows. Another laptop to skip. Thanks for the review though

thanks for the review, is there a lot of fan noise or heating issues ?
@GameTechReviews
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
Not really, if you are using the laptop on battery for normal on the go it's quiet. When it's doing hard work and plugged in then the fan does spin but that's expected for a desktop replacement. Noise levels aren't too bad though.
@ghanz84
@ghanz84 Жыл бұрын
The fan spins most of the time for mine (room temperature 27-31C). But the fan is relatively quiet even under heavy workloads. If you are a left hander, do note that the fan exhaust is on the left.

So torn between this and t14s AMD. Do I need the graphics card? Is gaming every now and then really important enough to almost double the weight? Not sure.
@GameTechReviews
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
If you don't need the graphics card then the T14s AMD is probably going to be more useful if you use the laptop as a mobile device. The P15v is better as a desktop replacement. It's much heavier but also supports USB4 so it does have access to the Thunderbolt 4 docking station. I have another video showcasing this P15v AMD working with the Lenovo Thunderbolt 4 Workstation dock which really turns this into a full desktop replacement.
@rwinkler4321
@rwinkler4321 Жыл бұрын
@@GameTechReviews Hey thanks for your answer and the helpful videos. After agonizing consumer choice paralysis I did order the T14s, with the assumption that I'll get a desktop or even an egpu(?) when I decide I want to do gaming again. The P15v does sound like a great device though!

I am looking to get a laptop for development. P1 Gen6 with 13gen Intel is on my mind, but I am concerned about thermals so I am looking at other options. P16 I guess and this. What would you recommend if you need up to 5min full performance from CPU few times an hour, I want to be around 2kg with good battery runtime (4 hours with that workload at minimum), not much noise from fan and overall good thermals?
@GameTechReviews
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
The P15v Gen 3 AMD version is probably what I would use. I've used the P1 and the P16 and I've found the battery life on the Intel versions are worse and the fans run continuously.

Just one question: are the video output ports hard-wired to the Nvidia GPU? I want to be able to attach an external monitor without having to power on the Nvidia GPU. Is it possible with this laptop? BTW - thanks for this review, wish I could upvote it a thousand times. I don't think there are any other videos of this unit (the AMD version) on KZfaq.

I think everything goes through the IGP because when on battery that's the default.

@@GameTechReviews Thanks! I think I might pull the trigger on this beast. It has just about everything I want. I just wish you could buy the AMD model without a dedicated GPU. I love the way the RAM is user-upgradable on this model. I'll be using the laptop as a Linux workstation.

@MnemonicCarrier 9 ай бұрын
@@jamesm5192 No, I didn't end up getting this laptop. I'm currently eyeballing the ThinkPad T16p gen 2 AMD, and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 AMD. I also bought the Legion 7 gen 7 (with the Ryzen 7 6800H and Radeon RX 6700m) - it has a USB-4 port that can drive an external monitor without powering on the discrete RX 6700m. I'll probably go for the Yoga Slim 7 gen 8 (AMD) this time, as it would be nice to have something so light and that doesn't include a discrete GPU. I also hear good things about AMD's integrated RX 780m, and I like the idea of a 90Hz OLED panel.

Hello, How does the battery life look like? Do you have some screen on time results from web browsing, video playback and heavy workload? Does the performance suffer dramatically when you are running on battery power alone, disconnected from mains? Thank you!
@GameTechReviews
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
The performance on battery is excellent which is why I recommend the Ryzen 6000 series for mobile workstations due to efficiency on the go. I can get 8 hours with lower brightness settings and I'm using the 4k screen which uses more power than the 1080p screen. If plugged into the wall with the Thunderbolt 4 dock, this laptop is better than most mainstream desktops.

P15v vs T15p. Same price, similar specs (aside from graphics card). Which would you choose?
@GameTechReviews
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
The P15v is way better. The T15p does support the same docking station capabilities but the P15v with the Rembrandt mobile processors is just newer and better. Better performance and better battery life. It's also the last Thinkpad to feature the legendary keyboard as all the newer ones have less key travel.

@@GameTechReviews I'm a university student that multitasks a lot, has classes (battery life), and games. Specs on paper lead me to the Z13 or Legion 5 AMD. Hell, the ThinkBook 16p AMD fully spec'd is $200 less than the P15v, and the Carbon X1 everyone recommends online. It's difficult, even with the 55% discount, $2300 for a laptop. I appreciate the push.

It lasts throughout my day, runs even Harry Pottery Legacy on Ultra, and I haven't had any issues so far. If you don't play games, get a Yoga or Slim honestly. @@hasanlafcioglu4082I ended up with the Legion 7 Gen 7 AMD (16") with Radeon RX 6850M XT for $3000 CAD. It does everything I need and more, not much issue.
