@gammyalade9896 extremely well! It runs some older games quite well and Autodesk Inventor seamlessly (at least with individual parts or smaller assemblies). Battery life is incredible, and it hasn't taken any damage yet other than one of the USB-C ports getting a bit loose, but it still works.

I just picked up one of these off Craigslist a few weeks ago. The seller had a W11/Linux dual boot that corrupted and couldn't figure out how to fix it so they sold it cheap. Lucky me, early Xmas present. i7, 16GB, unbelievable battery life and keyboard. After a BIOS update, clean install of W10 and a thorough sponge bath, I had a like-new ThinkPad w/ 11 months warranty remaining for only $160. I prefer the T14 by far over my X1 Carbon Gen 9 which I regret ever buying (faulty Thunderbolt issue, won't charge the battery and Lenovo won't fix). Pinching myself. This T14 is a great laptop. I love ThinkPads again.

Fortunately, AMD variants of T14 (G1 and G2) have replaceable wifi module. I replaced the horrible stock Realtek module with an Qualcomm NFA765 on my T14 G2 and so far I am very happy with this machine, especially with the Ryzen 5 5650u, that outperforms Intel variants in all categories - power usage, performance, thermals, better cooling system (2 heatpipes instead of one on non-dGPU Intel variants).

I'm still using the AMD version I bough in 2020. I went with the max RAM just because it's soldered. I have since added a stick of 16GB briging it up to 32GB. and I upgraded the stock 128GB m.2 SSD to a 512GB literally immediately. Lenovo was asking way too much for storage upgrades. the T14 might not be as serviceable and upgradeable as some thinkpads of yore, but they're still better than most notebooks that aren't a Framework.

With the exception of the single slot for RAM, it's pretty comparable, especially on the AMD version. Intel has more soldered bits.

@@emipw8869 In January i switched from a totally maxed out T480 to a T14 G2 amd. I honestly did not expect a big performance difference but it is very noticeable (i7-8550+mx150 on the T480 vs ryzen 5 5650u + Vega 7). Especially when it comes to multicore computing as well as graphics, the integrated Vega 7 performs on par with the MX150 , and even outperforms it in some scenarios.

Intel is now solidly beat by AMD for performance efficiency. I absolutely LOVE my P16s with the AMD 6850u, 8 cores, 15w, 86whr battery so it lasts DAYS! And it has an ethernet port, even though the P16 (non-s) DOESN'T! Downside is soldered ram, idk why they do this I hate that, but other than that the P16s is perfect for me.

@@LaptopRetrospective It's taken a long time for laptop manufacturers to catch up, idk if it's to do with business deals, brand recognition, chip availability or what, but even now Lenovo still offers many models with Intel ONLY and hasn't seemed to reflect AMD being more efficient in their offerings very much. I get they don't want to put all their eggs in one basket, and intel has caught up somewhat, but if you're making a laptop and care about power efficiency for cooling design and battery life, AMD is king.
@LaptopRetrospective
@LaptopRetrospective 5 ай бұрын
@MattTheriot I suspect it's several factors from R&D partnerships, chip quantity, availability, compatibility.

Pefect timimg. Right after christmss i was going to buy a t480. These seem to be priced comparably on ebay to the t48 so the million dollar question is whats a better choice? How do they compare performance wise? Is the main difference just the upgradability or is there also a big performance difference? My currnet machine is a t430.

Cpu wise you'll notice the difference and going from sata to nvme even more so however the T480 isn't perfect and you'll be better off getting something at least a generation newer or a dell precision instead as the T480 likes to throttle which hurts even when compared to an older T470 for example. Lastly there is the issue with one of the ports going bad if I remember correctly due to a firmware issue.
