Used my old T440p recently and was amazed how high travel the keyboards used to be even for the Lenovo design. Now they're approaching MacBook levels of low travel. Pretty unsatisfying. Glad they are offering an AMD one of these though.

I'm new to the term "low travel" but I've been doing a lot of comparing for a next buy - could you tell me what the travel thing means? Thank you!
@stoogel
@stoogel Жыл бұрын
@@lindsaywilliambrown808 travel is the difference between the key's initial position and its pressed position (when the computer registers it). Mechanical keyboards and some other external ones have full travel. MacBooks and other slim laptops have very low travel- you barely need to press the key. ThinkPads are traditionally higher than other laptops. High travel reduces accidental keypresses and tends to be more satisfying for typists but some people prefer barely any.

That second slot is for a WWAN card (cellular modem), though I'm sure a drive would still work, but it's why the dimensios to fit the device is shorter then the actual SSD slot next to it.

@@TheDesertsweeper I hear you, but I'm going back and forth from being an old skool IBM Thinkpad user with the monster huge travel keys to one who uses a Macbook and a Chromebook Pixel, and I understand the appeal of the low travel concept... for me, the Pixel keyboard is the best and most comfortable today, and when I start to feel like you about this T16 keyboard I put it into that context and its really pretty solid and usable... and perhaps even better than the other low travel designs? Who knows... only time will tell! But I get where your sentiment is coming from... the low travel can feel mushy at times

ThinkPad T16 Gen 1 - Wired Ethernet Port Issue I've had a problem with a new ThinkPad T16 Gen 1 (21BV000SUS). It was extremely difficult to remove the ethernet cable from the laptop. I tried several cables (relatively new Cat 6 cables) and each time the cable got "stuck". The size of the port just seems too small. It's much different from my old ThinkPad W510 and my other networking equipment. A Tech Support rep said that there may be a chassis issue with this specific unit. I hope it's not a design flaw.

Andrew Wells, I mean that such flat TrackPoint buttons are much more difficult to feel blindly. I have experience using such keyboards, and there it is quite difficult to distinguish the middle button from the side buttons without looking. Even the hardly noticeable bumps on the middle button don't help much, because they are very insignificant. Look at how three-dimensional TrackPoint buttons used to be on older models.
