Speakers are nothing fantastic, your standard down firing stereo quality. Enough for personal enjoyment and they do deliver full spectrum, a little but dulled due to their down firing though.

Thanks! I agree, while I love the X1 Yoga build quality and design, a comfortable tablet mode experience is important for this form factor, and the 14" size is just a little to big for me.

@@retropcdurham Well I ended up buying the X1 Yoga Gen 6 with i7 CPU, 16Gb, 1Tb HD and non reflective 14" screen. Black Friday special for $1,150. I just couldn't pass it up for that price/features. I really like it. Its fast and the non reflective screen is superb. The only thing that frustrated me was Lenovo overrides Windows power settings with their 'human recognition' settings. Once I figured out how to turn those off it was perfect. I get a full day battery use. Yes the 14" screen is a bit larger but I'm finding that for everyday use it's actually preferred (for things like Excel, KZfaq, etc). For $1,150 fairly loaded it was an incredible deal for very well built laptop.

eGPU setup worked great but obviously not very portable, and have to be careful if I set up somewhere around the house that the cable doesn't get hit; I've had to replace the cable once due to a dog zoomie incident a few months back. Thanks for sharing!

​@@retropcdurham Thanks for the reply! My experience with my eGPU was also pretty good! I agree with you on the portability factor. I replaced my cable ASAP as soon as I got my eGPU with the newest generation (Thunderbolt 4) that can handle more data transmission than the eGPU case is capable of (TB3) since that still helps with the performance I've heard. However, I will say I seem to have problems with any cable I use to connect the eGPU to the laptop though. None of the ones I use have ever been disturbed like yours have but I noticed that the cables are very picky about how they're seated in the ports on both ends. If they're moved even slightly (even unnoticeably!), the eGPU disconnects. Not sure what I can do about it, but it is very inconvenient and further anchors the eGPU setup to one location. Have you found any fix with yours?

@@aridrosenthal Thanks for sharing your experience, it's good to know I am not alone with the cable being sensitive. I too am using a replacement TB4 cable that is slightly longer than the one that came with my eGPU. I still have yet to find a resolution to the cable sensitivity though; I recently have kept everything s tucked away behind my desk and not set up anywhere else around the house, to minimize the disconnects.

Fan noise is a whisper even at max, really nice.

Clamshell versions generally get you some better performance (such as AMD support and for Intel 12th gen, P model CPUs). As far as battery life that could be a wash if you are running a more powerful CPU. I personally get a lot of use out of the convertible design. Sitting down to read a long article or doom scrolling is really comfortable in portrait tablet mode, and watching YT or other streaming sites in reverse mode sets the screen at a nice angle and exposes the cooling.

Tough question as both are great choices. The one thing I will say is for me, using the X1 Yoga in tablet mode was a little unwieldy, and I much prefer the 13" size in that case. Otherwise the X1 could be considered superior in every other aspect.

Ok thanks. I have an option to buy a new x13 gen 3 with 1tb drive and i7 processor and 2k screen for $840usd... It's some kind of grey imported tax free one. So at that price and spec it's hard to justify spending 3 times more for the x1 version. What do u reckon?

I use it quite heavily and the thermals are really good, it keeps the heat up at the end of the laptop and I have never once had any hot keys issues

@@retropcdurham I also noticed a good amount of PWM flickering on my TPX1YG7. Do you notice any on your TPX13YG3? To test it, lower your screen brightness to 25-50% then take your phone camera and put it on Video mode. View your laptop's screen through your phone screen and if you see horizontal lines, it uses PWM.

Yea I have this screen: 13.3" WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Privacy Guard, 500 nits It's nice and bright. I'm mostly indoors so running at like 70% is fine, but man is it nice to be able to sit outside on a sunny day and still be able to see the screen. I don't have the privacy guard enabled, but if I turn it on and then increase the screen brightness back up it looked to be at about 85% so you do lose some max brightness to have it enabled. Overall I'm really happy with the screen quality so far.

I think it's really up to personal preference, but you may want to look up reviews for warranty in your region to see who has a better reputation for repairs in your area.

I personally would not buy the Dell XPS. I have heard of so many issues with it, from the screen dying to the Wifi not connecting, it has been a nightmare for so many customers. Also, Dell's customer support has really gone down hill. I wouldn't consider it but that's just me. I want something that's going to last.

When I'm doing something like gaming (connected to a thunderbolt graphics dock) it will get pretty hot, but I am usually at a desk when doing that so not on my lap. Just on it's own for standard computing it doesn't really get very hot at all

It would depend on which screens are available in your region. I was able to get a model with the 500nit screen but I barely use it in bright areas so not sure I got my moneys worth

The T14s has been a good overall experience; it's stable and has great battery life. I do notice that it has a much more aggressive cooling setup, but since it has a corporate preload on it I am hesitant to install tpfancontrol to quiet it down. The X13Y has been a dream to use so far. The screen is much better than I expected, very bright and crisp even with a matte antismudge anitprivacy antieverything finish. Thermals have been very good and the fan is whisper quiet (my experience with all of the X13Y/L13Y). I've mentioned in the past I used an X1 Yoga for over 5 years in a previous job and it was a phenomenal system as well, but for tablet mode it was a little too large for my tastes, where the slightly smaller form factor of the X13Y is perfect.

I assume that X1 is more premium, but not really sure how that would translate in terms of build quality and user experience.

@@antonivt The X13 Yoga Gen 3 build quality is very high in my opinion. This carbon/magnesium combo feels incredibly sturdy and flexible, the the 'powder coat' feel of the finish is really quite refreshing. I don't feel like any corners were cut in durability compared to an X1. It will of course remain to be seen how well this material holds up to scratching and wear over time.

I would go for Magnesium over Alum any day. I just don't want to add more weight to my machine. I'm also already liking the new material coating; fingerprint magnet no more, yay!

I've been happy so far. Most of the time I'm in the 55C-60C range on CPU, occasionally up to 74C when boosting. I managed to get the CPU up into the 90s (C) earlier this week testing out my new eGPU setup (running two games on external screens + browser on main) and the heat was staying at the back of the chassis (no heat coming up from the keyboard) Definitely glad this is a U processor though, as a P processor would simply not be usable in such a thin design.

You are correct, on LTE ready or enabled models, the sim slot will be located in between the USB and audio port.

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely like convertible laptop design, but once you get to larger than 14" I think that the use case starts to weaken, it just seems like too much for a tablet form factor. That at least was my experience using an X1 Yoga for five years, compared to the size of the L13Y/X13Y product lines.

12th gen U processors don't have much power/heat issues that I have seen or personally experienced, but with the AMD model you are probably going to have a better graphics experience as well. My plan is to connect this to an eGPU so I wanted TB ports and didn't want to risk the "newness" of that support with USB4 on AMD.

@@justinkim4761 As long as the features you are looking for are there, the L13 Yoga is a great system. I had an L13Y Gen 1 a few years back and was really happy with the build quality and design; it seems that even moving into Gen 3, the L13Y still remains a cost reduced version only when it comes to features. Also, the dual camera is kind of neat as well. I do agree though that it's a little strange for the L13Y Gen 2 and Gen 3 AMD models to have the same generation of CPU.

My busiest day so far with it was about 11 hours of use, got it down to 17%. A 52Wh battery is really strong for the hardware.
