LENOVO Y550 take apart video, disassemble, how to open disassembly

Hi!
No music. No talking. Just work.
If you are taking your LENOVO Y550 laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. If you need to change a LCD usually you don't have to take screen out of a laptop. You can leave it on a laptop and watch the last part of the video where I am taking LCD apart. If you need to change a keyboard, you don't have to take all bottom screws out. There are usually some marks, like a keyboard picture, on a case bottom. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.
So, just watch this video and fix your laptop.

Thank man. I have one. I have broken screen cable. It is broken some years, I didnt care about it, I just use monitor. Still batery is dead. I dont use notebook 2 years. But now. It can be nice have one PC in parents house when I come. It is still nice PC in this time. I bought it for 500E. Today notebook for 500E is not so mutch better and it is 8 years! It is still better like 350E notebooks now! So Im going repair it. Thank for video. I disassembly it and Im waiting for new screen cable now. Really thank.

thanks its help me a much2 for open my LENOVO Y500A my laptop some times overheat n shut down it self.. and i think its thermal paste is dry couse many overheat it does. so i replace that thermal paste, nah this is i wanna ask u. in top or bottom that thermal paste i found a rubber to cover it. i replace too that rubber for any rubber in my home. then i plug it my laptop again. and that happen is my laptop shut it self in any secs... that rubber made from what? thanks for answering

Nice one man .. by the way i need help with my Y550P camera .. when using skype recently just came on that camera cannot be found .. i have reinstalled all the drivers again and rewritten the BIOS but i think is a hardware thing ....can you do a video on on on that ..thanks

Thanks. Sounds like too much for this novice to deal with. I thought it would be easier to take it apart than it is. The back is totally different than the 550 you are demonstrating here. Thanks for responding :)

It will fit physically but I am not sure how it will work out on connectors. You may ask seller about how many pins it got.

I have the same laptop. Recently the top right corner of the keyboard where it is attached to the screen is ripping off (the part that you took out at 8.15 of your vdo). Some hardware attached to that part is visible now and I can't replace it back to its position, Its lifted up! Is there any way that I can do it at home? Do I need to replace the entire case? Can you please let me know? That would be a great help! Thanks!

I am just trying to replace my dc jack on my Y560. Is there an easier way to get to that piece? Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated. Lenovo has that faulty jack design and it has gone out 3 times. I just can't bring myself to pay for this repair again. Thank you!

If I'm not mistaken, the cmos battery is this little round purple thing that you can clearly see at 14:27 ... The thing is, I have the same laptop and now it's just not posting. It has power (on battery only or plugged in without the battery or plugged in with the battery), the CPU fan is spinnig but no display and no keyboard. Any devices I connect to the USB ports don't respond and I connected an external monitor but to no avail, no display at all. Basically I can not do anything at this point, I've tried every solution possible except for replacing the cmos battery. Thank god it is soldered on the motherboard and to access it you have to take the whole laptop apart, perfect! I opened the main back panel just to replace the thermal paste and since then I have this issue. Your help would be invaluable, thank you.

The LCD that comes with the y550 looks to be an LG-Philips LP156WH2-TLAA (boo 1366X768). LG makes a Full HD LED panel (LP156WF1) that looks to be identical externally judging from the crappy pictures I've seen online. Do you think it may be possible to swap panels?

Thank you very much for you comments! I would say you will need to keep track of all screws (where they are coming from and cables too (make a picture) Keep track of everything (do not try to remember, unless you have some super memory - you will forget) :)) If you will keep track of every little thing - re assemble will be not a problem. Make sure you will re apply a new thermal paste.

hi, my y550 is playing up, i plug it into the mains and it instantly comes on with a blank white screen, nothing i do helps and the power button is unresponsive. only way to switch it off is to unplug it. i have looked everywhere but havent found much help. i think its a problem to do with the internal cmos battery, any ideas? thanks

i just cannot understand y does my system crashes wen i play a hd vedio or any game in it...my laptop turn outs to be real hot so i changed my fan but still the problem exists....i would be gr8ful if u could help me out

I never had to recharge the battery and overall they are rechargeable but on motherboard itself. Not sure how to recharge it not on the motherboard. If laptop was for awhile without power, battery could run out of juice and needs to be charged and will do so if it is still good. But if battery gone bad, you might need to replace it. The only problem is that some motherboards have cmos soldered and some easily replaceable.

To the author of the video or anyone else - where the F**** is bluetooth module. Few days ago I've disassembled Y550 to replace LCD cable. After that my laptop "lost" bluetooth. It's not visible in Device Manager - like it's physically didn't exist at all. I was trying to find it - apart from WIFI module which is visible clearly I cannot locate bluetooth. I've watch this video carefully and still doesn't see any bluetooth module. It's almost like it was just a part of mainboard but fun fact is you can buy Bluetooth module for Y550 on eBay ...... so it has to be somewhere.

Thanks for the video. I have a question. I have the same laptop. The cable from screen to the motherboard has gone bad. When I connect it to a monitor through the HDMI port, I can see the screen. I even played a lots of games this way. I searched for this cable and I couldn't find out what it is called. Can you tell me what it is called. Thanks in advance.

find out a part number for your video cable. Search on eBay or Google. There are plenty of cables available.

The screen is forever screwed up. But, I can still use it with an external monitor. But, if I want to go to Bios settings, I still need the laptop screen. Some guy was able to show the Bios settings in the external monitor by disconnecting the laptop screen. I am going to try that out. Thanks for this video again.

I am sure you need to remove palmrest and maybe lcd, I can't tell exactly will palmrest came out without removing LCD. You may no need in removing heatsink and fan. Remove battery for sure and unplug from power source for sure. Use antistatic device. Have a good luck!

Hi, DC jack is easy to unplug and plug it back. So, you don't need to do anything special. Be careful with every parts etc.

@@regazzz А к СМОС батарейке у него можно добраться, если только весь корпус разберешь? У этого ноута иногда включаются только индикаторы, а экран - черный. Через удерживаемые клавиши Fn+R вроде загрузка идет нормально. Если сбросить данные СМОС? Или перепрошить БИОС?

Sometimes it is a main reason, but you may "Google it" for another reasons... Have a good luck!

If you see it working, if you switched correctly to external screen and nothing is on it - probably bad video. Further troubleshooting is pretty much hard via comments... you will need to find a technician who can help you.
